The reason I mentioned that it didn’t match the price I paid is simply because I got a really good deal, and the hotel exceeded my expectations in every way, which was a lovely surprise.
The room was warm and cosy, with an excellent shower and big fluffy white towels. The bedding was good quality, and the mattress was very comfortable. The heater in the room worked really well, which is especially important in a 16th-century property. There was also an excellent tea and coffee tray with high-quality biscuits, and in fact all of the products provided were of a high standard. I also appreciated the information magazines in the room, all about the Cotswolds and things to do in the area.
The staff were very welcoming. I arrived just as the kitchen was closing, yet they still prepared a fantastic meal for me, along with an excellent glass of Merlot to accompany my dinner, which was very much appreciated.
The location was perfect for exploring the village, with some lovely walks close at hand that were ideal for discovering the Cotswolds on foot.
The only very small thing worth mentioning is that the gentleman who showed me to my room missed an opportunity to upsell breakfast. I had booked a room-only rate and had to ask whether breakfast was available. He was very helpful, confirmed that it was not included in my rate, which I already knew, and explained the times clearly.
So if you book on a bed-only basis, do remember to ask about breakfast. I did not have it on this occasion, but I did see others being served and it looked fantastic.

In a very quaint little village. The staff were lovely and the vibes were relaxed and cosy.
Rooms on the front slightly noisy first thing in the morning but you have a beautiful view of the church.

Beautiful old pub in the heart of the village. Clean and very well furnished room comfortable bed and bedding.
While we waited for our table for dinner in the adjacent bar, my wife had a glass of wine. Unfortunately there were 2 flys in the glass. The glass was changed. In the dinning room, our meals were served to another couple, then removed from them and handed to us.

The breakfast was very tasty and varied, parking and the location wee good, powerful shower and toiletries were lovely. Christmas lunch was delicious, was slightly surprised that it wasn't finished off with the offer of coffee and mince pie.
Bedroom was a bit warm for me, (but I am nearly always too warm), only one or two coffee sachets / hot chocolate drink were put in the room, but were given more from reception

The food was excellent, really well cooked and excellent produce used. We had the beef Sunday lunch and the beef was superb, only down side was that they'd run out of cauliflower cheese that was supposed to come with it, but they apologised and adjusted the bill accordingly. Breakfast was also excellent. Another bonus was ample and free parking on site!! Staff really friendly and helpful
Unfortunately the premises lacked the old World Cotswolds charm that we like. Recent refurbishments seem to have made it very bright and a bit soulless in the bar and restaurant areas. Furnishings very bland and samey ... comfortable enough but nothing that stands out

This was a really comfortable Inn, with friendly staff and a good ambience in the restaurant. It was very pet friendly and the rooms were very clean with plenty of different teas, coffees, hot chocolate, bottled water and biscuits provided each day.

Great location and easy parking.
Friendly and courteous staff who were helpful in recommending wineries.
Steep stairs might be an issue for some.
Nice meal at dinner. We didn't have breakfast as we felt it was a bit overpriced.
Would stay again

Superb location as we were intending to walk Cotswold Way.
Dining was a little expensive but having said that, food excellent. Lovely breakfast as well.

Excellent location, friendly and helpful staff. Evening meal was lovely. Extremely dog friendly. Generally a lovely pub. Breakfast on the first morning was excellent.
Room was a bit worn and in need of tlc and updating for the money charged. Room was very cold, heating only appeared to come on in the middle of the night making it uncomfortable to sleep as too hot but cold when wanting to shower and get ready. Plumbing made quite a noise when other guest were using showers, we presume, or flushing toilets. Breakfast on the second morning was very disappointing. Ordered the sausage breakfast sandwich, sausages over cooked and dry, and came on a dry burnt brioche bun (was expecting a fresh bap or crusty cob, not a dry burger bun)

Lovely staff and setting. Very handy car park. Bed was also very comfy.
The wifi in my room was shocking, so had to go to the main pub to join a number of work calls.
The shower pressure was also not great.
Considering the price, I'd expect good wifi in all rooms.

Great location in the centre of Painswick, a beautiful village. The Falcon has a nice feel to it; we had good pub dinner when we arrived. The room was spacious and comfy (we stayed upstairs in room 10) with high ceilings and a big comfy bed and was very private and quiet. The staff were friendly and we're helping in changing the bedding as we had requested hypoallergenic bedding via booking.com but they hadn't received this message.
The breakfast was also good - selection of pastry, granola, yogurt and juice buffet style and then and a choice of freshly prepared hot breakfast.
The village church with it's many Yew trees is immediately opposite the Inn and some shops and cafes just a few minutes walk in the road.
There's a car park behind the inn.
Nothing worth mentioning.

Friendly staff.
Meal first night was great, we ate 3 different breakfasts, all really good.
Bed was comfortable and room a good size and clean.
Parking available.
Taking the dog over the road for his morning and evening potty breaks.
Within walking distance to the Cotswolds way.
It was a bit warm in the room so I kept waking up at times but otherwise good. The shower was clean and a good size but I would have liked the pressure to be better.

Fantastic location and very kind staff who went out of their way to help
Our bedroom was very small and dark, with mould in the shower and not enough plugs. We paid a lot for the room and the photos of the bedroom on the website suggested they are all really beautiful, when actually our bedroom was not luxurious at all

Situated in a lovely village
It was sold as a delux room but is was only average and based in the attic space.
The Smart TV in the room was not connected to the internet so we were limited to terrestrial channels.

Lovely old but nicely kept pub/ hotel. Great location for visiting the Cotswolds
The property and accommodation was great for us.. we felt that the staff were brilliant and so polite and helpful but they were running around constantly- maybe staff shortages.?

Great location. Clean. Friendly staff
Room was called deluxe double but it was small and en-suite was tiny. Shower was very small. Room was top floor and very hot even though not an exceptionally hot day. The fan in the room was too noisy to have on at night. The main light in room didn’t go off - so could only lower dimmer. Overall, very, very expensive and not good value for money. Breakfast not even included, which would have made price more acceptable. Dinner overpriced too. We had stayed in hotels in Winchcombe and Cheltenham the two previous evenings and they were almost half the price and more comfortable and better dinner/breakfast. We were prepared to pay this price but expected it to be something special, which it wasn’t.

Our group of three was walking the Cotswold Way. The hotel was nicely located and had a great onsite restaurant and bar - great selection of appetizers and beverages. Our group really enjoyed the outside facilities, we were there during an unusually warm summer day. The staff was very helpful, and kind. Our rooms were located on the top floor and the staff was kind enough to carry our suitcases up the two flights of stairs for us and place them outside our rooms. We had arrived before check in and the staff was able to accommodate us and let us check in about an hour before the allotted check in time. The beds were quite comfortable and the room had many amenities we enjoyed - the tea/coffee arrangements especially. Overall, we had a quick and pleasant stay and would highly recommend this hotel as a stop for anyone walking the Cotswold Way.
The downside, and not the hotels fault entirely, there was no air conditioning. We were located on the third floor that had very restricted window openings. We were given an extra fan to help with air circulation but it barely made a difference. Included is a photo of the slight window opening.
