Liked the location, air con in the room was also good! Breakfast was good choices and very fresh.
We stayed for 6 days & room cleaning was not reliable. Also the pool was so so small, do not be deceived by the pictures, it was actually unusable, no space around it & really small. We were there during Carnaval so the hotel was likely busy but there was no space to relax.

The hotel is generally very comfortable, with an excellent location on Copacabana beach . I am handicapped and I was kindly given an upgrade to an accessible room. This room was quite large and well appointed.Great AC. Black out curtains, a comfortable bed and exceptionally comfortable pillows. The hotel offers a small but attractive rooftop pool , and restaurant.It has an excellent gym facility, one of the best hotel gyms that I have come across.
I had a number of glitches with my stay at the hotel.The room safe did not work at check in. They had to replace the unit. They did so, but it took over anHour. The unit had a very unstable tri pod table. They replaced it . My suite kept sending a silent alarm to the front desk. The front desk kept calling me to check in on me, even at 3 am.That is good if you have an issue, I did not .
However my biggest negative experience was the accessibility of the hotel . At the main entrance there are 5 steps. I use a walker so I need a ramp or a lift. To use the lift, One must go to the main stair entrance to catch the attention of the concierge desk or door person, who was not always at the door.It usually takes two people to operate the small lift . One person from inside to send it to the street level , and one to come and open/unlock the lift door from the outside. Quite a production, just to get into the hotel.Leaving the hotel also required two people to help you use the elevator.
Secondly once you are in the hotel, there were two long ramps to get to the bank of elevators, one up, the other down.I could also exit the hotel on the beach side , however that requires a ramp up from the elevator bank to two more ramps down to the street level, again with assistance to open two sets of doors. One is very dependent on assistance on coming and going from this hotel.Even entering the hotel on the beach side required catching the attention of a security guard for him to open the first ramp door. Other guests helped me get into the hotel. Not accessible friendly. I would like to come and go from a hotel without notifying everyone at each entrance of my dissability.

The food, drinks, and amenities offered were fantastic. The rooms were always neat and orderly from the service staff, and the the Air Conditioners were phenomenal in the rooms, especially after walking around Copacabana for awhile.
Two separate points of note.
1) There was a significant leak in the bathroom shower by the drain that leaked water into the toilet area which often left the floor mats soaked, prior to use stepping out of the shower.
2) When ordering dinner on the rooftop bar, it took almost an hour and a half from the time of ordering our food to receiving it on the night of the 15th. I don’t know if it was due to Carnival, but the service was incredibly slow.

Our stay at this hotel was extremely disappointing from start to finish.
Check-in took more than an hour due to “technical problems,” and after waiting so long, we finally reached the room only to discover that it was not even ready yet. This was a very frustrating start.
The air conditioning was not working, and maintenance came to fix it while all of our personal belongings were in the room. They worked there for more than an hour, which should have been handled when no guests were present. After they finished, the room was left very dirty, so we requested housekeeping, but no one ever came to clean.
Throughout our stay, the reception staff were not helpful when we expressed our dissatisfaction with the room and overall experience.
Check-out was also very poorly managed. There was only one employee at reception, resulting in a line of around 40 minutes. We almost missed our flight because of this delay.
Overall, the lack of organization, poor service, and insufficient customer care made this one of the worst hotel experiences we have had.

Dont be talked into taking the breakfast !Not very good quality and dining room very cramped and crowded. staff cleared your plates away before finished when still collecting your food.. supposed to end at 10.30 but most things gone by 10am

Great location, right on copacabana beach, cycling distance to locations like ipanema, botanic garden, Jesus the redeemer!
Cleaning was grotesque, there was always beach sand on the floor, white towels had stains, housekeeping staff is pushy for tips, and left a couple of items behind in the room, gone in a blink of an eye!

The property is in a very convenient location and the plus is, it’s right off the beach! Less than 1 minute walk and if you get a unit faint the beach you can see the most beautiful sunsets. The staff also highlight this property’s thousand times over. Cannot get enough of how great they were from check in to check out.
Sometimes the WiFi would cut out if you have multiple devices but it would just make you sign in once more.

The hotel seems to have been renovated recently because everything was relatively new and modern. The room wasn't huge, but it was a good size, and very quiet. Everything was clean. One of the best parts of our stay was the breakfast. Excellent variety, and it wasn't the same food every day, which is not common in a hotel that size. There is access to Copacabana beach with towels and a parasol (provided by very friendly "beach" staff), which was a very nice added plus. We also got massages at the spa. Also, the rooftop pool was warm and had a great beach view.
The only weird thing was that the hotel entrance was not on Av Atlantica but on a side street. It's not a super bad thing, but the photos on Booking.com led us to believe the main entrance was on that street. Also, the pool only got sunlight in the morning.

Fantastic location, lovely helpful staff and good rooms. stunning hotel pool and rooftop bar, breakfast options were good in general, lots of hot food, baked items and fruit, there was a gluten free section, I asked for oat milk once and got it but the rest of the days they did not have any, vegans can get by but not a huge variety for them, otherwise a lovely stay, the information desk can help to arrange any trips you want to make to attractions as well.
Some more offerings for vegans in breakfast options.

Rooms were clean and quiet, hotel was in perfect location to walk and explore Rio. Enjoyed the view from the rooftop for breakfast. Staff were helpful and attentive.
I checked in late and asked where was the best spot to grab a drink with a view and staff told me to get a drink at the rooftop. Once I arrived, it was closed (?) for a private travel industry event. I didn't realize it was closed until someone asked me why I was up there and if I was with a certain company - ended up leaving w/o a drink or enjoying the view. Staff should not recommend this as an option when they know it has an event occuring.

I stayed at the Grand Mercure Copacabana from April 9–12, 2024, and had one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever encountered—especially shocking for a so-called five-star hotel.
Shortly after arrival, I developed a severe allergic reaction. After consulting with my doctor, it was determined that the cause was likely the hotel’s bedding or cleaning products. My reaction cleared up immediately after leaving, confirming the issue was directly linked to the room environment. Despite visibly suffering during my stay and repeatedly informing staff, no manager contacted me. I shared photo evidence and updates, which were completely ignored.
Eventually, the hotel offered a partial refund of two nights—not as an acknowledgment of responsibility, but as a "gesture of generosity," which I found appalling and dismissive. My health was compromised, my vacation ruined, and my family left distressed—and the hotel refuses to take accountability.
Adding insult to injury, the espresso machine in the room didn’t work, lunch service one day took 2.5 hours due to painfully slow and rude staff, and the overall condition of the hotel is tired and worn. This property does not deserve a five-star rating in any regard.
I would strongly advise others to avoid this hotel. If something goes wrong, don’t expect professionalism, support, or even basic accountability. Hugely disappointing.

Amazing hotel right on the beachfront! The price is honestly the best you’ll find for a hotel of this level. The breakfasts are fantastic — always a wide variety, everything fresh and delicious. And having breakfast while looking out at the ocean is just a dream.
I want to give a special shoutout and big respect to the staff working on the hotel’s beach. Many people don’t even know that the hotel provides sunbeds and umbrellas — such a great bonus!
Also loved the bathroom amenities — high-quality shampoo, conditioner, and lotion, all with a lovely scent.
My rating: 100 out of 10. Highly recommend!

I didn’t have a working safe for 6 nights even though I complained 3 times to reception and they said it would get fixed. It’s been a month since I left and I still haven’t received my deposit back.

Beachfront, lovely room/bathroom. Great breakfast, gym, rooftop pool. Able to checkout late due to availability which allowed us to enjoy Rio before our evening flight. Staff were lovely.

Even though I knew the pool and bar would be closed for renovations, it was really inconvenient not having a pool. I understand renovations are necessary but not during a time like carnival - I feel that this could have been done out of season.

The staff threw a paper with a lot of names and email addresses under my door , I didn’t read it , because it was not for me, obviously! I threw it away. Then the staff was knocking several times in my door in the middle of the night because they wanted the paper. I did not open the door I felt threatened.

The room was very narrow, to get past the bed, and the wall was a balancing act. One chair at the table in the toom. The key card was faulty and needed to be rechecked every day.
