Breakfast + pool
The hotel need some renovation!
9.0 / 10.0
The location is prime, the hotel roof top restaurant was great and although super crowded the pool was really nice.
The rooms are a bit dated

Location is the best. Pool area and Copacabana view was great
I felt that the staff was overwhelmed for pick of holiday season. Quality of services and time to be served at local restaurants and beach services were not good enough mainly when you expect much more for the price you are paying. Something that to me was not acceptable was the fact to be charged for a single bucket of ice. It’s not about the amount of money, it’s just the fact. I complained but they said it is what it is.

Except for the room view, which I absolutely loved, nothing else met my expectations.
The hotel was extremely crowded: only five elevators for guests meant 15-minute waits, and reception had long 30-minute lines. The breakfast area was always busy, with food and cups often running out. Three days I didn’t have hot water, and despite emailing a week earlier, the airport shuttle request was only answered on the day I arrived. It was not a relaxing choice for a vacation at all.

Location is very nice, next to the beach with amazing view
pfff where to start. We were very disappointed as that should have been the most luxory hotel in our family trip.
For such hotel, we did not expect not to have hot water (sometimes it got better), no ability to close the window (its actually not a window, but sliding glass... so its always open. not safe and very noisy!), difficulties to get to breakfast and to eat (breakfast was packed and we waited 15-20 min to get an elevator. there are 5-6 elevators but not all were working).
And last but worst, we got bitten by unknown pest. We called the reception and they said someone will come to spray the room. After couple of hours no one came, so I had to get the house keeping to the room and showed her the bugs.

Great location and great views over Copacabana.
The rooms are tired and the soap dispensers did not work in the bathroom- it had to be said however that the 24-28 floors were being renovated at the time we stayed.
3.0 / 10.0
The pool and the location and sun deck.
The cleanliness of this property was questionable (ripped stained linens, spills on walls, bugs). So much so that we ended up requesting a change of room which was granted but that rooms level wasn’t much better. We overheard a similar complain at reception at check in but brushed it off. The elevators were so poorly designed which I understand the hotel is working on but should have a workaround in the short terms. Although breakfast was fairly ok, the layout of a thin strip caused a lot of competitiveness among a large group of people (no matter what time you went) making the experience not very leisurely or enjoyable. The noise level was below average as the hotel needs to invest in some new windows. Sliding doors to outside do not lock just slide and are riddled with mould. Overall this is more like a motel than a 4 star hotel and believe there are far better options at this price point. Even if you sacrifice location. Overall would not stay again.

Pool area was a big part of our enjoyment
The AC was old and did not work. This really retracted from our experience.
The property is in dire need of refurb

Location
The property was under construction. The noise was absolutely terrible. Rooms are like traveling to the 80”s without style.
Staff do it best’s, but nobody should work on this hotel until they finish the construction.
One day we came back from a long day outside, and one of the rooms hasn’t been cleaned.
No water in the rooms unless you pay for one in the frigobar.
Towels feel like you are rubbing yourself with sand.
Go early to the renovated swimming pool on the 30th floor (the only amazing place on the entire property) because after 15hs they run out of towels.
The beach chairs are old, crappie and dirty.
This is not a 4 star hotel.

Location is good, but honestly I barely spent time In Copacabana because it feels unsafe, there are homeless people in front of the hotel, and the Copacabana boardwalk smells like pee.
The pool was recently remodeled, so pool, rooftop bar, restaurant and sauna were the only good things about the hotel.
Outrageous price for the room. AND we got the Luxe Family Front Ocean View - it was really bad. I feel like we paid for the pool and rooftop views. The balcony door didn’t lock; it was literally broken and always had a one inch gap. With that, noise was very loud from the street and A/C wouldn’t cool the room. Second, we found a cockroach in the bathroom. When I called, they said someone could come with a “pesticide”. Excuse me? How can I sleep with pesticide all over my room? Third, and for me the worst: I spent a month in Brazil and those were the worst nights. Every time I moved, I could feel the mattress springs. I felt like I was sleeping in a very cheap and bad sofa bed. We paid 5,300 for four nights. So not worth it. And finally, breakfast was ok. Some things were good, others bad. The scrambled eggs were disgusting and swimming in a watery mixture. I would stick with bread and fruit. One day of breakfast and I had food poisoning and diarrhea for my next 3 days in Rio.

The location and the rooftop is exceptional
The hotel infrastructure is old and outdated.
The staff for the breakfast and reception is understaffed. We had to clean our table to take our breakfast

One of the nicest hotels on Copacabana beach
There were not enough chairs/umbrellas at the waves facility connected to the hotel for us to sit in the beach using the provided location.

Everything except the balcony
The balcony was way too small and should have had a little table a chair to enjoy the view from your room

Great location close to beach. Beach club included with access to towels and an umbrella. Beautiful rooftop pool, luggage storage and friendly staff.
Not much. But there were some works going on. It didn’t bother us as much - we were out most days and the noise in our room wasn’t too bad.

Amazing location. We'd reserved a room with a side sea view and we're glad we did: We walked into a room on the 23rd floor that was full of light and with a panoramic view of the beach below, and of fort and hills off in the distance. We often spend are first day in Rio when my wife and I come to Brazil to visit her family. We both decided the Othon will be "our" hotel for future stays.
Don't forget to pack your patience because both checkin and checkout can take an unbelievably long time: 30 min and 15 min for us. Plus, we paid by credit card during checkin but receptionist couldn't find record of the payment during checkout. We hadn't been given a receipt so had to use the credit card app to prove we paid.

Excellent champagne breakfast in temporary Skylab Restaurant -Beautiful views of Copacabana Beach.Staff were very pleasant plenty of table service.
We didn’t like the renovations with the white net blocking our full view of Copacabana beach from our balcony and also the noise. Skylab Restaurant & pool not available.

The location in central Copacabana was hard to beat and we had the highest and best view.
The property was very crowded, elevators took some time and breakfast was a madhouse. The hotel and room could use some updating.

Location was next to beach. Very close to Copacabana beach. Room was clean and stuff friendly. Breakfast was also good. Recommendation for this Hotel.
A lot of guardians who was checking entries. Safety is issue in Rio and can be a bit annoying to follow all rules.

This was my second trip to Brazil in the last few months. There were so many sights to see, events to attend, friends to talk to and places to go. From the arrival at the hotel, I was checked in by Daniel, who began the introduction to a exceptional experience. The service, care and quality I received went beyond mere hospitality. From ensuring I was comfortable with the room, assisting with a magnificent upgrade, to finding the best porter whos kindness is usually found among friends. The location, food and views were amazing. Yet what really really set this apart what happened about half way through the trip. I had received some bad news that morning and overcome with emotion shed tears into my breakfast. Again the staff was there, as Neide calmed me, consoled me and was ready to provide anything to make my stay better. Trying to make the most of the day, a conversation with the staff and concierge got me tickets to a Samba school where I dance the night away, with new friends I met and let the cares wash away. I ended my trip with a calm night sitting on the rocks watching the sun set. Ive been to 25 countries around the world, and most major US cities, stayed in countless hotels, even worked with a few. I can say with full confidence that my experience would have been less then memorable if not for such a tremendous service and care that I received.
Just in case my sincere and heartfelt response wasn't informative enough. The Rio Othon is (currently) the tallest, this not only offers the best views it also makes it easy to spot. The beach spots, restaurants and shops near by make the location very convenient. Yet one of the best things about this is the familiarity, with my limited Brazilian not needed, I simply held up by room key to taxis and with a nod was on the way.
I recommend everyone visit Rio at least once. Book in advance for the best deals. And even it its only for a day, stay at the Rio Othon its an experience you wont forget. Thank you All.
The heat made the sun room hotter than the rest of the room. Not sure that's anything that's not unexpected.

They don’t have public area to use a microwave and hotel not accepting warm up food for kids
5.0 / 10.0
The hotel is pretty average and for the price nothing special but public areas are ok and staff is friendly. The location is great.
Bedroom was not good, old carpet didn't feel clean and the mattress was very hard to the point that we had body aches in the morning. Considering prices of other hotels on the beach in Copacabana this hotel may be a decent option for families but it certainly isn't a good deal.

The only thing we can say about Othon is the location. The hotel is well located between Posto 4 and 5 in Copacabana. As it is located on Avenida Atlantica, the rooms facing the sea have a beautiful view of Copacabana. You can walk along the shore, both day and night. Of course, with due care. If you like to walk, it is possible to go to Ipanema walking and enjoying the local beauty. It's about a 20 minute walk.
The hotel is very old, but the fact that a hotel is old doesn't mean it has to be dirty. We stayed on the 22nd floor, the room was dirty, the carpet had a strong urine smell. The tile floor at the entrance to the room (hallway between bathroom and bed) was sticking to your shoe. The bathroom was dirty, with hair in the corners. The closet with broken doors and very dirty inside. The window has a small balcony and there was a lot of ash from cirragos. The window panes (the main attraction of the hotel is the view) were terribly dirty. But I want to be fair in my assessment, although the room was very dirty, towels and bed linen were clean. Breakfast was at Skylab. Disappointing, all very bad and no quality. The breads were not fresh. The appearance of the fruits and breads was very bad. The breakfast area has a beautiful view, but the atmosphere is old and dirty. Before booking this hotel I researched the opinion of many on the internet, I really don't understand how people can say it's an excellent hotel. As I said here, an old hotel is not synonymous with dirt. We stayed only one night and changed hotels, because it is unacceptable for you to pay R$ 1,500.00 a day to sleep in a dirty place. The situation was so bad that the hotel did not charge our daily rate.
