Fantastic view over Rio in a very relaxed hotel with excellent hosts.

Nothing, would highly recommend.

The property is so beautiful and clean. The view from the pool is amazing! And they have a doggie who is the best concierge ever!

Only thing is that the hotel is a little far from the touristic areas but the team made it easy on us as they helped us booked taxis all the time. So it wasn’t bad at all.

The staff were fantastic, and the interiors had a beautifully considered design that made the stay even more enjoyable.

Everything in the house is placed with taste and grace, from the living room decor to the breakfast selection. The clearly owners have a special talent and love for hosting, which makes yqou feel right at (the most beautiful) home! Not to mention, the views from every angle of this house is breathtaking. An absolute gem, already excited to be back.

One of the nicest places i’ve ever stayed in. The personnel is very friendly and helpful. I had a hard time booking this one activity I wanted to do and I asked them about it, they took care of it right away. The hosts were very welcoming, very lovely family. A pleasure to get to know ! Will definitely be coming back

Location, view, design of the hotel

There was mold on the curtains of our room. The breakfast was tasty, but we missed a little a brazilian touch with local option like tapioca or acai. Maybe some improvements on the logistics for breakfast.

- Views are incredible (the best I’ve seen in Rio, and better than any other hotel / restaurant I have been to in Santa Teresa) - Very quiet, which is a really valuable commodity in a city as busy as Rio - Staff were friendly and did their best to help where possible - Comfortable rooms - The owner has a guide to Rio with excellent and honest recommendations. We went to a few of them and the descriptions were spot on.

Safety of guests is a real risk, but can be managed properly with good communication. Unfortunately I don’t think this is acknowledged by the staff and communicated properly to the guests. A few points on this: - There are three favelas near the hotel - Morro dos Prazeres, Cerro-Cora and Guararapes. There is are two entrance to Morro dos Prazeres within a few 100m of the hotel on the main road (one by stairs and one road that is sign posted). However the guidance from the staff was still that “it’s safe to walk anywhere in Santa Teresa.” We stayed at another hotel in Santa Teresa last year and had clear guidance from the concierge there on where it was safe to walk. Rio144 should do the same. - The hotel advised us to take Ubers back rather than yellow cabs, saying that Ubers use the gps so drop us off at the right spot whereas yellow cab drivers struggle to locate the hotel. Our experience was that Ubers sometimes did not want to go up the hill because they were scared there was a favela so we would get dropped off further away and have to walk to the hotel. - On one occasion, an uber driver took a wrong turn while getting into Santa Teresa and we ended up in Guararapes where we were stopped by 6-7 motorcyclists. The taxi driver turned on his hazard lights and put down the windows (which is protocol for accidental entry into a favela) and the motorcyclists let us continue. The uber driver was very inexperienced, and was very scared and took directions from a passerby rather than follow his gps. Uber is therefore not a good choice in my view - yellow cabs are much safer (also because the vigilancias in the favelas are less likely to touch them). The hotel obviously does not have control over how uber drivers behave, but the advice to take an uber is a bad one. I recommend using the local taxi company even when returning to the hotel - they are on WhatsApp.

I can’t say enough good things about Rio 144. The hosts and their team are the nicest, kindest people. They are unbelievably helpful and will go above and beyond. The property is stunning with mind blowing views of the entire city - sugar loaf mountain, the bay, Christ the redeemer, all right in front of you. The sunrise is magnificent too.

Great service and staff. Very welcoming and responsive to requests handled by Thalita. Awesome daily breakfast which was high in protein and flavorful. Stunning views of the city and the sunrise especially delightful. Bus stop is a 5 minute walk away.

While the location is central in the city it is high in the mountains and between the cobblestones and construction and single lanes you may have difficulty with taxi/uber if you are traveling back and forth often. Would enjoy some more local dishes in the breakfast options (pão de queijo, bolo de fubá, etc). Dinner options past 7pm at the hotel are not available and even local food delivery via apps can be difficult because of the location.

The property is beautiful, the people are welcoming and the entire place is stunning and very well thought out. You’ll stay in a very comfortable room, with great facilities and in a superb location. The place is a real hidden gem!

Beautiful building both inside and out but the real feature was the rooftop poolside and breathtaking views of Rio! The hosts couldn’t have made us feel more welcome from the minute we met them and we’re full of helpful tips and great recommendations. The breakfast was also to die for. It’s not often you go somewhere and genuinely feel a home from home.

Small scale boutique where the owners also live. Very friendly and helpful, making you feel at hime. Best views ever of Sugarloaf in front and Redentor on the side. At the same time a real local eatery at our doorsteps, where you can eat and drink with the locals. And top rooms and beds so you can really have a good rest.

Access is not easy nor to find taxi in the area, nothing nearby to eat where you can go by foot, tranportation dependant

I had an amazing stay for my birthday. The staff and owners were really helpful with getting around and just information I needed on the area. the breakfast was more than enough. Pictures do not capture the essence of the place or the people. This place is magical. I will be visiting again soon. Like any other country you’re visiting, keep your wits about you and BE POLITE.

The food was second to none, the variation, choice & quality were superb. It was served beautifully and with plenty of variation of areas of where we could have it. As for the quality, location, cleanliness and everything else about this property it most certainly couldn't have been any better, i only wish we had been staying with Jean for a much longer time. We will be going back.

The property is a little remote BUT transport to all areas very good (taxis, buses, trams). Dinner service would have been really good so that option to stay at the property in the evening rather than go out every night would be a big plus

Even after thoughtful consideration we would say there was nothing we didn’t like. If we had to choose one thing to give as constructive feedback it is the connection with the city.

I booked Rio144 during my biz trip to Rio de Janeiro. The hotel is located in the mountains of Santa Teresa with a phenomenal view on sugar loaf mountain and Cristo Redentor; absolutely amazing. Rio144 has a wonderful rooftop terrace incl. small pool. If you would like to have your peace away from busy Rio - go here! The team is always happy to help and you are being treated like a member of the family. The breakfast is freshly made with love. I can definitely recommend to go there!
