Perfect, lived up to expectations.

Picturesque, magnificent and a must do for Sound of Music fans!

Absolutely gorgeous and picturesque. The ballroom where breakfast is served is magnificent and we just couldn’t get past the Sound of Music setting. If you’re a fan, definitely stay here!

One staff member was a bit rude on check in and made me feel very uncomfortable but the rest of the staff were lovely.

Bucket list place

I loved my stay here!! I love the Sound of Music and it was so special to stay in one of the movie locations. I am so thankful to stay in such a bucket list place of mine. It had also snowed which made it even more magical. It was a walk into town and the place was very clean and comfortable. The bed was super comfortable.

Simply beautiful experience

Gorgeous location, comfortable beds, great breakfast, excellent heating. Easy to get to via bus and taxi.

No fridge in room for milk or other items, and no restaurant on site, apart from breakfast buffet. Otherwise was delightful.

potential for improvement

We wanted to see the palace and the exterior since we grew up watching Sound of Music. The parking was always available. The rooms were comfortable yet nothing special.

The front desk girl was competent but I wouldnt say friendly. Told us that we might hear work constructions early in the morning. One thing is to hear work constructions, something else to wake before 8 with someone drilling fiercely on the wall above your head. When you pay more than 200eur/night you should be entitled to rest. This is not ok..Close one wing if you must renovate but selling the rooms and do that is unconsiderate and greedy. The hotel didnt look full. The breakfast in such a salon could be better. There are no juices at the buffet, you have to order separately. The fresh fruit took ages to be refilled and the had poor quality. Too much cakes and pastries, most of them not homemade.

Amazing old palace breakfast was a true experience

The breakfast in the old palace is truly exceptional and that alone is enough to make staying here a truly exceptional experience.

There was some signs of tiredness in the decor and facilities, an example the poor state of the carpet in the hallway leading to our room, it was badly stained and dirty in appearance.

Museum Quality Stay

Live in fanciful luxury for a little while. One a the very unique things about this hotel is you actually get to enjoy the rooms as they were intended to be. Breakfast in one of the two ornate rooms and a quiet read in the library is a must. Though I was so taken with the thought of being able to actually sit in this room, I read very little. The rooms in the secondary building are what I would consider standard for Europe. However, you should be spending little time in it. There is so much to explore on and off the grounds.

We were so sorry to be leaving this morning and would absolutely recommend this hotel if visiting Salzburg.

The location was stunning, public transport easily accessible and staff were so friendly and helpful. Everywhere was clean and breakfast was the best we’ve ever had. We were directed to other fabulous local restaurants for our evening meals which were within walking distance. Salzburg old city is a very pleasant 20-30 minute walk away.

Well beyond the Sound of Music

The Sound of Music history. The nature was unreal. The silence, as it was just a peaceful place to relax. The staff was amazing. The breakfast buffet was fantastic. I can't say enough about this place.

No complaints at all. We are definitely coming back in the near future.

The room was clean and cozy. The breakfats was amazing!!! Staff were kind and helpful! The whole place is beautiful and we were even able to eat breakfast with some of the cast from the "Sound of Music" movie which was so special!

Excellent location and fantastic staff

The staff throughout the hotel were excellent. The breakfast was superb with so much choice and the staff serving breakfast were really attentive and professional. The breakfast room was the most beautiful room ever seen. The location was great. Rooms in the main hotel were a little dated. Rooms with lake view were lovely. No issues when requesting a taxi that the staff organised. The whole area was well worth exploring. Overall an excellent stay.

We changed mid stay to a second room and were allocated the attic. Although the room was spacious, the little window with barely any view felt a little claustrophobic.

Fairytale castle with beautiful views

Staying in this hotel, in the old Schloss, was like living in a fairytale. While the furniture and decor in the room itself was a bit out of character, the Schloss itself--in particular the library and the grounds--were gorgeous. The views from the room were spectacular --with sunrise over the Alps being a memory I won't ever forget.

LOVED staying here.

We got there a bit early and the staff invited us to tour the grounds and Palace while waiting for our room to be ready. Wow!! We were blown away by the beauty of the grounds and the Palace. Breakfast was great and eating in the ballroom was amazing! We felt like royalty our whole visit.

We stayed in the pink building which is a little less expensive. Although we had a great room and loved the decor, it could be noisy with the window open. Also, the location of the hotel away from the main part of the city is a plus and a minus. Beautiful and quiet location but you need to find transportation into Salzburg for most anything. Taxi's were hard to come by, we didn't want to drive and deal with traffic. So, until we figured out the bus stops and system (staff was helpful with this) we felt a little stranded. Small price to pay for the trade off of staying in this wonderful place.

A must see for Sound of Music fans

Beautiful historical buildings and very special to have the opportunity to visit the filming location of some of the Sound of Music scenes. Rooms clean and nicely decorated. Nice bar and of course stunning location for breakfast and an opportunity to visit some of the other rooms. Friendly and efficient staff.

I was shocked by the state of the reception area, grubby carpet and overall very downmarket look - almost wanted to cancel my reservation, worried that the room would be similar. Thankfully everything else was super, both inside the buildings and the grounds outside, and the staff were very welcoming and efficient. But the appearance of the reception area makes a bad first impression and really needs a facelift.

Peaceful Palace Stay by the Lake

We stayed three nights at Hotel Schloss Leopoldskron and it was a truly fantastic stay. The setting is magical — a palace right by the lake, surrounded by beautiful gardens, with an incredible history and links to The Sound of Music. The staff were warm and attentive, and our room in the Meierhof was clean, comfortable, and very quiet at night. Breakfast was served in what used to be a ballroom, which made it extra special, and there was plenty of choice each morning. We didn’t use the buses, choosing taxis instead, but the location worked really well for us. During the day we enjoyed a peaceful walk around the lake and taking in the scenery. Overall, this was a memorable and enchanting stay — the kind of place that feels like stepping into a storybook.

Breakfast was excellent - 10/10. Selection, ambience, staff - all was amazing. Our only slight iossue was the room had no air conditioning and it was very hot during our stay. The hotel advised that there is air conditioning getting installed before summer 2026

Mixed feelings between a great place and a poor human experience

Beautiful old building, stunning view, isolated while close enough to the city center, the restaurant staff that was nice

Cold and unprofessional staff at the welcome desk During the check in, nobody informed us that we could get a free pass to the nearby water park, same for the transport ticket and one of the ladies that welcomed us told us casualy that because there would be 2 weddings over the weekends w might not be able to sleep very well, just like if it was just perfectly normal (which was not our opinion when we pay 250+ € per night). When we ask whether there was a cleaning service available, one of the ladies told us that there was no such service during the weekend and that there was no such service nearby and probably it would be the same in town. As we were traveling intensively for our honeymoon, my wife and I really badly needed to clean our close and the fact that nobody would care about trying to find a solution to help us really did not reflect positively on us, especially when we book at a reknowned institution that is not exactly on the cheaper side. At the bar, the personnel was slow to react even though there was almost no client to serve. One of the staff would not move a watering device in the garden that regularly projected water onto the tables, until a manager came and scolded him. How come can the staff behave in such a way, with total disregard for the standard of the institution and the quality of the customers' experience ? During the check out, we felt again like if we were actually bothering the staff when we asked to get a bike or get back our luggage. It is unbelievable for me to see so many staff miss-behaving in such a casual fashion. Only the staff serving the breakfast were impecable, reactive and friendly, they clearly deserve a bonus in comparison. So all in all, this was a mixed experience with a great place and view, but a rather poor human experience (except for the restaurant staff).

Far exceeded our expectations and a memorable experience.

As a Sound of Music fan, staying at this facility was on my bucket list. Even for non-fans of the movie, this is a great place to stay. Beautiful grounds, helpful staff, and one of the most delicious and scenic breakfast locations ever. The palace history is very interesting. We also enjoyed hanging out in the beautiful library. Will definitely be back.
