Great location and very helpful staff.

Excellent location just steps from the Promenade, friendly and professional staff, comfortable room, great bar and delicious breakfast.

I would have expected a hotel of this quality to have at least a small chest of drawers for non-hanging clothes, and a couple of towel hooks or rails in the bathroom. Nowhere to hang coats.

The bathroom design. For a “deluxe king” the bathroom was poorly laid out, my thighs touched the wall when on the loo. Definitely not designed for the bigger man. Staff at breakfast were harried.

Parking was fifteen pounds for the night which was an extra and not many spaces but can understand as a town centre hotel.

We loved our beautiful, big, warm room. We also enjoyed a tasty breakfast in their tasteful restaurant. Great location in Cheltenham. A charming hotel which knows it's own history and tells it's story well.

A very relaxing and comfortable stay

The service from the staff was excellent and the hotel was very comfortable and well located. Parking was convenient and the hotel was flexible about staying parked beyond checkout.

Although the rooms were very pleasant, some of the furniture looked a little tired.

Lovely staff, room, and location.

The staff were very helpful and kind. The location is perfect for accessing most of Cheltenham. The building is beautiful.

It was gorgeous but as with any old building, it showed its age in water damage, cracks, small creaky lift, etc. I did see a third floor smoke detector held to the ceiling with duct tape on the top floor. These little details detract from the grandeur of the property.

Great stay in historic hotel in excellent, central location, though some refresh needed in the room

Stayed here during the Cheltenham Literary Festival due to hotel's central location. It was ideal from a location point of view. Room was comfortable, staff were friendly and polite. Breakfast was a mix of buffet and ordered / freshly made eggs / pancakes, etc. Common areas were cozy and comfortable.

Some aspects of room needed a refresh e.g. mould on sealant around shower, grout missing from bathroom floor tiles. Our room (129) looked out over rear parking lot and as such was rather dreary. It also involved taking a lift up 1 level and then walking down 2 sets of 5-6 stairs. This was okay for me, but not ideal for my 83 yr old Mother, who was staying with me. Next time I would request a room on the same level as the lift.

Excellent short break in wonderful surroundings.

Good choice of cooked and buffet items for breakfast. Room was excellent with a very comfortable bed and it was a nice touch that milk and water was left in the fridge each day. Staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel's location is excellent for both shopping and the various events at the Cheltenham Literature Festival.

Notwithstanding the small ‘grumbles’ the hotel was ideal for the purpose of our visit

We did not take breakfast. The location is excellent. The hotel has an old fashioned feel which I like

I stay here 2/3 times per annum and approx 50% of the time the lounge off the foyer is closed off (presumably for functions) which leaves what remains rather dark and limited in space. I’ve said before that the bar is not my favourite. It does not have the ambience commensurate with the rest of the hotel foyer area

Breakfast was very average

No hot water in the morning which is fine… it happens… but the offer of £15 off a £200 stay was not what I wanted to hear! The piped lift music everywhere was also way below what you would expect from this kind of hotel!!! Such a shame as the staff were lovely

Disappointing but can’t beat the location

Excellent location, spacious rooms.

We were put in a room where staff congregate outside the window to smoke on their breaks and were noisy. The shower barely got warm. We were moved and received a free room upgrade for our second night, but the shower was even colder. In general quite a tired hotel in need of an update, which clearly capitalises on its central location.

Location close to Town Hall and all shops , restaurants

Given a room and not advised at reception it had a disabled bathroom We dropped our bags in room and unpacked evening wear then went out to lunch Came back to find bathroom for disabled Very low sink and toilet and shower awful but hadn't time to change room Our door rattled really badly every time another room was opened etc on corridor so loud you felt like someone was opening our door. Floorboards of room above creaked excessively and room not sound proof Bed and pillows very hard...worst nights sleep in a hotel ever! Lift smelt of stale disinfectant Room very expensive for experience When we checked out I voiced my opinion but the guy on reception didn't seem bothered and just said the standard line I'm sorry to hear that..... Poor!!!!!

Disapointing

Hospitality is about the front of house staff, the receptionist was cool slow and unhelpful..unaccompained children ran and played in the public areas, people quequed. It took an age to check in, and really set the seal on our stay, she managed to put us off, eating in the hotel, we only stayed because we had made plans... the lift made a worrying noise and the coffee machine in our room didnt work..not a great experience

Don't book with your pet

I paid for this property via booking.com non refundable. It said it was pet friendly and i was bringing a small dog with me. Afterwards I was told it was an extra £30 for my dog. They refused a refund.

Confort and fantastic location in Cheltenham

The location is great, the rooms are nicely decorated and are new so you feel comfort

The pillows and mattres was a bit soft for me, and I didnt like that I got a room facing the back and during the night I was able to listen the motor of ventilators. Luckily I didnt wake up every night because of this

Very nice stay

Staff very pleasant, swapped rooms as the superior room we were upgraded too was directly over a noisy restaurant who had a live DJ. Jack sorted another room whilst we had complimentary drinks in the bar, he even moved our bags into new room,

Air con is a bit of a mystery. Slight drain odour in the room, think the traps were dry as improved once run the water.

Overall good despite unhelpful checkin staff

Good location, clean and reasonable service.

The reception staff were not very helpful. I arrived shortly after 2pm and was told my room was not ready but they will call me when it was ready. I sat in the lounge waiting but it was obvious there was no follow up by staff. I watched them check other guests in but still no call from staff. I know I was early but there must of have been scope for a room juggle but no effort was made in that respect. I then expect staff to act on what they say which was not the case. Overall it left me with a very poor impression of the reception staff.

Hotel somewhat shabby but the location in Cheltenham was perfect for us.

Location was excellent and also had its own carpark.

All a bit shabby. The air con in our room was non existent. It was cooler in the corridor. The heated towel rail in the bathroom was permanently on. The shower over the bath meant we had to stoop to use it. There were two of us and only one chair in the room. Beds were comfy but the pillows could be improved as gave us neck ache in the morning. Cooked breakfast was very disappointing. Scrambled eggs did not appear to be cooked fresh and had a rubbery texture. Bacon was very fatty and the sausage was ‘just’ cooked. The overnight oats were more just yoghurt as we struggled to find the oats. Overall we felt the whole breakfast experience was not value for money. It’s great that the hotel have a carpark however it should be made clearer on booking that the carpark is payable at £15 per stay.
