Great location, friendly helpful staff ,lovely lounge and delightful breakfast room.
The breakfast let the hotel down - didn’t meet the high standards of the rest of the hotel. Cooked breakfast average .

Such a comfortable boutique hotel. I loved the unusual touches in the bedroom - a small carafe of port (complementary), huge comfortable bed, delicious chocolate tiffin (also complementary). Plenty of wash cloths and comfortable bath robe as well as a Dyson hair dryer. Gorgeous products in room too. Breakfast was delicious, freshly cooked to order - perfect scrambled egg!
I didn’t have any milk - only oat milk. I’m sure they’d have brought me some but I was in a morning rush so didn’t call them. Also I thought it odd to have a kettle inside the wardrobe (couldn’t remove it, had to be used in situ).

Comfy bed, huge room, lovely products and great location. The bathroom was huge and had his and hers sinks and showers with luxury products and lovely style. The bed was enormous and very comfy with the best pillows I have slept on! Enjoyed our stay as it was close to the town centre and to the racecourse. The Dyson hairdryer was a nice touch.
It was dark in the room and needed an additional light to read, also the kettle was difficult to access in the wardrobe. It was warm in the room but lovely fan supplied and a window that opened for ventilation.

Stayed in the largest room - which is a spectacular size. Largest show ever I’ve ever seen. Very comfy bed and pillows. Massive bath tub. Beautifully furnished. Excellent location.
Didn’t like that the loo was separate to the main bathroom. Didn’t like that we seemed to have allergic reactions to something in the room, however given it is dog friendly, it may have been related to that. Hard to say!!!! Also someone had consumed part of the honesty bar without being honest - and it hadn’t been replenished.

A lovely room with some very nice touches to make your stay special. The breakfast was excellent.
The staff were very friendly and attentive.
The only small thing was that our room wasn't ready at 3.00pm. We had to wait about 30mins.
But this was more than compensated for, with the high standards of everything else.

Stayed here twice now, and both times have been absolutely outstanding. Once as a solo traveller, and because I loved it so much, I brought my family here for a night two days later.
The service, food and rooms are excellent. Everytime I come to Cheltenham, I would chose to stay here or 131 The Promenade. They used to be ‘sister hotels’ and you can absolutely see the resemblance in decor and finishing touches. No 38 is a far more intimate hotel if you want a quieter vibe.
Thank you once again for such a fantastic stay both times.

Incredibly elegantly designed boutique hotel. Great staff, conveniently positioned close to town, brilliant breakfast. On site parking available, although very limited. 5 cars maximum. Complimentary welcome port in the room and vegan welcome treat. A simple, but well executed touch!

Beautiful setting, rooms are very nicely decorated with lovely touches like homemade treats in your room. Lovely toiletries and generally just a great feel.
Due to the nature of the property, it’s very noisy and you can hear the doors banging/people walking up and down the stairs. Perhaps some anti-slam on bedroom doors or something to soften the closing as it can be quite disruptive for sleep.

The overall design and decor of the hotel is very tasteful. The bed is very comfortable, with good quality bedding.
As a long-time guest, I have noted that standards have slipped over the past few months. Rooms could do with a deep clean, rather than a quick turnaround for the next guest. There are surfaces which have clearly not been cleaned in months given the amount of dust. General maintenance and repairs are required in several rooms e.g. in room 11, the shower pressure is intermittent and there is a slight smell of damp in the room, evidenced by damp patches on the chimney breast. The quality of breakfast on my most recent stay was also lower than I have been used to, which was a shame. The poached eggs were poor, the watermelon was anaemic and the kiwi was past its best.

The location opposite the park was excellent, perfect for walking the dog & beautiful. The walk into town is less than 10 mins , so again very good . The people working at the hotel were all very helpful & attentive. The room was very spacious with excellent facilities!
The only slight niggles for us were 1) they had run out of beer & lager at the bar when we arrived 2) one of the starters on the menu wasn’t available at the evening meal & my wife had particularly wanted it 3) we chose a dessert to share & were initially told it wasn’t available to us on the menu we had chosen , however the restaurant manager kindly “discussed” with the chef & this was sorted

Location was great - short walk into town and it was in a quiet area.
Breakfast was very good (although you did have to wait a bit as there was only 1 chef)
Bar was a cramped.
Lack of wardrobe space - ok for just a night or two.
TV at the bottom of the bed - no remote to send it down into the recess.
Roll top bath in the middle of the bedroom may be a nice feature …but do the size of the room, it took over the space
Not enough usb/charging points

Lovely decor and lovely inside. Breakfast was good in the morning and the staff were helpful. Bed was comfy.
Our room was quite hot and whilst we had a Dyson fan which was provided it did disrupt our sleep. As the hotel is on a main road we couldn’t have the window open as it would have been too loud.

The staff were very helpful + when I asked.if I.might take a pastry with me as I was going to a horse show where the food was not good they brought me some foil to wrap it in.
The dyson air conditioning unit in the room was a revelation - and a perfect solution for a listed building.

Physically the property is very attractive both externally and internally. Very plush with high ceilings and cornicing, beautifully furnished with interesting artwork. The greeting was very friendly and efficient with cakes and pastries, plus cucumber/lemon water available if wanted, which I certainly did on the day I arrived having travelled 3.5 hours in the sweltering weather. My room and en suite were fabulous and I slept so well I have actually contacted the hotel to ask where the mattress was from! I only wished I could have stayed longer.
There really was nothing that I didn’t like. Before arriving I thought parking might be difficult as there are only 5 spaces out front but it was straightforward. I parked right outside on the street and the lady who checked me in did everything else.
