A good place to stop for a night

4* Absolute Joke, Avoid

I have never written such a harsh review but to be honest nothing was good. It was a good 10 minute walk from the station, which was fine but, as you got closer it was like walking into Beirut. The restaurant attached looked decent and had a pleasant area to sit outside. We found out later this could not be accessed through the hotel. (The lift gives an option for bar and reception on level 1 although this was only the restaurant for breakfast and the bar was never open) Mercure 4* really?? We stayed in one the night prior and after, both same rating and absolutely excellent, couldn't fault either. Who rated this hotel, Mercure should be ashamed to have their name on it.

Upon leaving the lift for you room, it felt as if you were in a horror movie waiting to be murdered! A harsh and personal view but it gave an air of gloom and let's get out of here. The room was basic, drab and the sort of place you didn't even want to walk on the carpet barefoot. We felt like we didn't want to spend time in the room, but the area was so much worse. We ventured down to the hotel bar which was shut and to be honest didn't feel safe enough walking around to the restaurant entrance. At this point we had travelled many locations throughout France, including Paris, which my daughter and I felt safe enough wandering around at 11pm. The air con didn't work, I did mention this to the receptionist who went up and turned the fans down lower. (So we had a light breeze of warm air on a setting at 15c instead of the full breeze) Had the window open because of this and was awoken a couple times to screaming and shouting. We left early and sat at the train station for a couple hours for our train. I would not have stayed a second night nor would I recommend to anyone else.

A quick overnight stay to get to our final destination. Just needed a bed and food.

Staff were lovely and very helpful. Inside Hotel and Room were fine.

The building outside and the Location felt rundown. Parking was a Public car park, where you got a voucher, rather than hotel parking (only a 3 minute walk, but some strange people hanging around the streets)

This is not a real 4 star, look for other options if you can

The rooms were spacious and clean overall and the beds comfortable. Nice aircon system. The staff were friendly and helpful. The take away breakfast we requested for our early departure was generous. The breakfast included both sweet and savoury options.

The bathrooms need some renovation. Adds on included only a liquid soap, which is not a must as far as I'm concerned but is really basic for a 4 star. There was no parking in front of the hotel, we had to go to a public parking which was a short walk from the accomodation but still inconvenient and disappointing for a 4 star. If you want, you can still park in front of the hotel but at your own expenses. The hotel is located in a dodgy location, probably because there is a big station near by. Drug users and what looked like prostitutes can be found outside the main entrance. For this reason I would not recommend this hotel to families with children and in general to anyone who doesn't need to be close to the central station.

Receptionist's english was excellent and gave me a street map showing locations of various destinations needed by me and ordered a taxi for me.

Breakfast area a bit depressing and the night staff when we arrived late in the evening claimed that booking.com had overbooked and they didn't have a room but eventually upgraded us to a superior room - would not liked to have seen a standard one!

good hotel in the center of Rennes

They gave us a voucher for parking which was directly at the hotel. it is ca. 10 minutes to walk to the historical center. staff was nice and gave us a baby bed even though they did not receive the info from booking.com WIFI was good

there were no power sockets next to the bed, the bathroom door was squeaking, only one chair in the room

Very disappointing experience.

Receptionist tried to take over 200€ extra from credit card at check in without saying anything. She tried to force us to pay this which was unacceptable. The room was dingy and noisy and photos did not reflect the low standard. This is not a 4 star hotel.
