Macdonald Leeming House

Arrived not knowing what to expect. Lovely drive up to Leeming House Hotel. Lots of car spaces. Beautiful building but sadly very tired and in need of a lick of paint and upgrading as they are up against many top class 4 star hotels in the lakes. Also the trelliss needed a repair. The two men receptionists (on both days) were brilliant and helpful and offered to take my luggage to my room an then back to the car. The terrace outside was lovely and the views overlooking Ullswater and the mountains were the best we have ever seen in the lakes. We had our lunch outside which were enormous sandwiches with homemade coleslaw and fries. One between two would have been ample. The staff were lovely and chatty. After lunch we went for a walk to the lake. I think there is 22 acres belonging to the hotel. There was a path you could follow to the lake as the rest of the fields were slightly overgrown for the wildlife. Plenty of wildlife and bunnies to see. When we reached the shore of the lake there were wooden chairs to sit on. We felt that the lake belonged to us alone. Close your eyes and the sound of the water sounded like the sea’s waves lashing against the rocks. Our bedroom was vey large with high ceilings. The single beds were extremely comfortable and the bathroom was lovely with a bath and a shower in the bath. There was no small fridge in the room which I like to have (no temptation of the miniatures though, which my husband always says “out of bounds!” There is a beautiful conservatory you can sit in when it’s too hot, raining or freezing cold which has a beautiful view of the gardens and a bit of the lake. We never had breakfast so cannot comment on that. We will definitely book again, upgrading to a balcony with lake and mountain views. The hotel has interesting history which you can pick up a description to read from by the reception.

Beautiful garden, great lication & friendly staff. Dinner was also excellent. Will gladly recommend & comeback myself.
