The location of this hotel is simply spectacular. Nestled at the foot of the mountains with breathtaking views of the ocean, the setting is absolutely stunning. Waking up to such a panorama is truly a privilege, and without a doubt, this is the hotel’s only strong point.
Unfortunately, everything else falls far short. For an average rate of over €275 per night, you expect at least a basic level of service — which is absolutely not the case here. The services are practically nonexistent, and the overall organization is seriously lacking.
In Brazil, where temperatures are high, the drinking water supply was not working, which is simply unacceptable. The showers, including the outdoor showers, had a strong sewage smell.
In the room, several electrical outlets were not working, which was particularly inconvenient. Housekeeping clearly left much to be desired, with an overall feeling of neglect. The sheets were not changed for four days, even though the hotel states they are changed every three days. The rooms are very basic, poorly maintained, with unattractive linens and a generally disappointing level of finish.
Breakfast was also very disappointing: limited selection, poor quality, and absolutely not in line with the price charged.
In summary: an exceptional setting, but a level of service completely unworthy of the price. It is extremely disappointing to pay such a high rate for such poor standards. We do not recommend this hotel despite the beauty of the location.

P1 made for an amazing frame for our stay.
The view was amazeing, staff were pleasant, the room clean the bed comfertable.
It is possible to walk in to the town, meeting small beaches on the way, wear shoes that can get wet.
We loved our stay and will be back - thank you Asalem for 5 wonderfull nights (and splendid drinks!).

Wifi doesnt work in the room
A/C barely works in the room
Frequent power outages and wifi outages on the premises - the hotel will blame the island for this, but there seemed to be no issues when we visited the main pier
They will charge you for EVERYTHING:
- umbrellas
- ponchos
- taxi boat to and from the main pier (you cannot easily walk there as it is flooded)
The list goes on this is just what i vividly recall.
We paid more for this hotel than a 5* luxury in Party. If i could re book my honeymoon i would jurt have gone to Paraty for longer.
The only reason this is not 1* is because the manager we spoke to was good. That aside, if you are looking for a romantic getaway this is NOT your place. manager was good and the room

Very exotic and relaxing. Average standard, but good for Ilha Grande.

I think we got double unlucky where our room was maybe one that hadn’t been renovated yet and we had really bad weather but the accommodation was good quality and well done. The team

If you're looking into the reviews to decide coming here or not - Please book some other nice pousada and use the rest of your money on cool activities in the Island!
The view is amazing. Their kitchen is also very good.
This is not worth the premium price they charge. They will charge for every little convenience (water, umbrella, transport to the island, wtc). They say their reception is available and leave you with no answer for hours (during their working hours).
They will try to push very overpriced boat rides that you can get the same in the Island for 1/3 of the price.
Overall, the feeling I have after staying there a couple of nights is of being scammed. Just get a nice pousada for half the price and use the money to get more out of Ilha Grande's experiences.

I Rate this hotel at 4.5 great views and lovely island. Service was great but there was some misunderstanding about our pickup in the city. It is a nice place to get down to basic. They advertised that they have snorkels but didn’t

Overall we were happy with our stay, however if we return to Ilha Grande we probably wont stay here again.
The main reasons for this were poor communication and value for money. Regarding communication, as an example, we booked a boat pick up from the property for 10am to take us to a beach. We were told that morning that the boat will arrive between 10 and 10:20am. Despite being ready on time, the boat had left without us and we had to wait a further 45 minutes for another. Also, we were told if we wanted to be picked up Abraao town to go back to the property or vice versa, we had to WhatsApp reception. We did this one evening and got no response despite asking twice for confirmation of whether the boat was going to come. Fortunately it did, however the lack of a response was frustrating.
Regarding value for money, we expected the room to be decorated nicer than it was, and also found additional charging annoying e.g. you are charged for the boat transfer into the town, per person, for each way. This was strange considering the price we were paying per night was fairly high, and the alternative was to hike 25 minutes which depending on the time of day, requires you to wade through water.
Lastly, we were also Expedia VIP members so expected to recieve our free drink, however this was never mentioned and we never recieved it.
On a positive note, the property was very clean, breakfast was good, and the view from the room was lovely.

If we could stay here longer, we would!! Truly look no further, this is the best hotel with the cutest rooms, perfect views, great food, and wonderful staff. With walkable paths to the beach and to the downtown area (along with private water taxis for transportation if you don’t want to walk), everything was perfect. This was hands down our favorite stop on our honeymoon. I know it will be just as special for anyone who visits!

Asalem is a great place to relax. Very friendly, great views, quiet. Problem for people that have issues with stair climbing as located on a hill and to get to rooms steep stairs have to be dealt with. Bungalows are beautiful and on 2 levels. To get to main bedroom again steep staircase. Bathroom is on lower floor so if you have to get up at night starir case awaits to get to bathroom.
Besides the stairs the hotel is great. You have to take ship from Concecao 15 mins or from angra dos reis 50 mins to abraao on the island a d call hotel for boat pickup as you cannot walk to hotel with heavy luggage.
The hotel boat could be better.
I rate the stay as excellent as the views, the friendliness of the personnel and the hiking and beach options are really great

Perhaps the best hotel at Ilha Grande. Located away from Abrao. 5 min by hotel boat taxi, cost 20 BRL (4 USD) during the day hours and 40 BRL (8 USD) when it is dark, i.e. after 6pm. Walking is impossible for much of the time as the pathway is frequently flooded. Make sure you call/send whatsapp message to the reception in advance about your trips there and back. There is normally one trip every hour. The boat is quite small and at the beginning hard to identify but after a while you get used to it. Location away from Abrao is good for some if one needs a quiet secure place and a disadvantage if you need some more life around but then again using the boat helps in getting a good balance of everything. The property itself is very good, comfortable, the views are stunning. The staff members are very helpful. Regarding Ilha Grande I had a tour around some beaches, which was not bad. However if you wish to visit the best place then forget other beaches and go Lopes Mendes. Getting there is a quest but worth it: you first go by water taxi to Pouso beach (located in inner lagoon, no big waves) and then walk 20 min through the forest. One could walk all the way from Abrao but that is then few hours. The beach closer to sunset is really stunning. Overall, great experience at Ilha Grande. Thanks a lot.

We were looking forward to our stay at Asalem. I had planned this trip for months and had great expectations for this property.
The place looked amazing on pictures, the location was perfect.
On site we arrived late afternoon, the hostess was great and dinner was ok. The following day breakfast service was great.
However our rooms did not look like in the pictures, the rooms were old, with chipped wood and cracked slabs. The worst was the wholes in the sheets and the bedding and towels were in poor shape and even with mold. The bathrooms were old and had a bad smell but most of all they were not clean. My daughter and I used our sandals to shower as we did not want to step on the shower bare foot.
The floor of the rooms, the outlets, curtains, doors were all in bad shape and in urgent need of repair.
My family was very disappointed and even though we had originally planned to extend our stay, we decided one night there had been enough.
I am sure their newer rooms are better and that everything is great there but the pictures are not accurate to the current state, the property should show current pictures of the older units so that guests know what they are accepting when booking. Still this does not make up for the lack in higiene.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at Aslem, during my visit to Ilha Grande. From the moment I arrived, I was thoroughly impressed with the overall experience provided by this fantastic establishment. Aslem excelled in every aspect, including cleanliness, safety measures, staff and service, as well as the impeccable property conditions.

The entire staff from the front desk, to the boat captains from our transfer from Rio de Janeiro to the drivers Asalem provided gifted us impeccable service. We couldn’t have chosen a better destination for our honeymoon. I will reserve any more compliments, because I want Asalem to maintain it’s peaceful atmosphere. Obrigado

We spent 4 nights at Asalem. We enjoyed our time very much. We stayed at the chalet which was spacious and has amazing views of the bay. The hotel serves the best caipirinhas in town and the food they serve is also very good. There are lots of steps to take each day so you have to be fit enough to climb those. A little boat brings you to the village and back. It’s a very special place we can highly recommend.

Staff was very nice. Free boat pickup/dropoff from pier. Large room with air conditioning and wifi (when it works). Great authentic breakfast (included) and delicious dinner. Staff was very nice. Hotel is a bit remote but very beautiful and pretty easy to get around, especially if youre willing to pay rs$15 for boat transfer to main part of island.

This place was a great value find. Nathalia is what makes this place a home from home. She was always happy and super helpful. So was the other lady who i think was her sister maybe. The breakfast view was great and its just so peaceful. The taxi service from the main port to hotel was easy to navigate with whatsapp and not to expensive. The happy hour was great and we tasted a lot of caipirihnas in Brazil but they did the best. The rooms are a bit basic but it's a remote island so expect more rustic besides we didn't spend much time in the room. But it's very eco which is a good thing.

Asalem had great views and a decent breakfast spread. The manager, Natalia, was wonderful and made us feel very comfortable and welcome. However, there are not many amenities here. The rooms had no hair dryer or television. The dock area, which is the only swimming area) had only 2 floaties so unless you're proficient at floating in deep water, you have to wait. Also be aware that this location is not walkable to the town, and you need to pay the ferry each time you take it - only checkin/out is free. This property would not be suitable for those with small children either - there are a lot of areas that are not safely enclosed that a small child/toddler could easily fall (10 feet), including the rooms (bed is in the loft area, which is only protected by a single rope) and the stairs to the rooms (again, only a rope handrail in most areas). You need to place your dinner orders by the afternoon if you are dining at the hotel so you can't decide too late. But the drinks/food are good.

Wow, I love Asalem so much I'm already talking about when the next time we can visit this property. It's located a boat ride away from the main village - it's quiet and peaceful, the staff is lovely and so very helpful. Shout out to Natalia for making our stay so memorable and the highlight of our trip.

Room needs upgrade. Doors don't shut well and windows need new screen as they have many holes in them allowing insects to come in. We did notice that some of the rooms seem to be upgraded.
Also, there's no way to walk to the village. The access is only by boat so you have to plan ahead.

Very friendly and helpful staff, some of the most beautiful views of Ilha Grande. It’s a good 15/20 min walk to the main village but depending on your mobility could be hard to access by foot however the hotel offers a regular taxi boat over. It’s a lovely little place that is so chilled and relaxing and the perfect place to sit outside your room with a caipirinha and look at the most stunning scenery. rooms are a little basic but you’re on a fairly secluded island and it does have everything you need!

The hotel has great view and friendly staff and the room was nice size. But here are the items that drops the rating for this hotel:Only 8 rooms, to get to our room we had to climb exectly 44 steps at multi levels. We had no hot water the first night due to a storm and lack of backup system. The water was black and brown manager explain due to storm. The hotel is secluded and to get to town you must take a water taxi the hotel charges for each person $5 usa dollar this info is not available when you book at hotel.com. Internet not reliable sparotic outages. No water for drinking in room has to be purchased while evry hotel provides. At over $200+ per night this hotel is no value for your $$ you will be disappointed or reduce the rate. I have communicated my frustration to shift manager a woman I forgot the name she could care less and ignored my comments. To get to a beach you need to walk on narrow path (hotel down not tell you they claim 20 minutes) if you are with kids or mature person it takes over 40 minutes on a sleepers trail. Bugs in room is common.

This place is off the beaten path. Which is both really cool or could be seen as bad. I liked it. We took boats and swam to beaches but didnt have to stay in the town which is a little more youthful and party. The staff is awesome! Like they couldnt be better. There are bugs but its in the jungle so you cant really avoid that. Just make sure you have bug repellent.

Perfect nestled on the sunset bay side of the island. The staff made this place one to remember. Two for one drinks specials while they cook your dinner to order and a view out of a travel book.
