About this cottage rental

Fully serviced and equipped waterfront property. 140 yr old kauri cottage. Simple, 'old-style' kiwi bach. All beds will be made and towels provided on the beds and the cottage is fully Serviced.
The cottage has stunning views facing northwest and of the tidal harbour. The cottage is set in the central part of the historic town of Rawene on the Hokianga. It is only minutes away from an award winning cafe, the Boatshed. There is a restaurant at the Hotel, a ferry trip to historic Kohukohu, a small beach, Clendon House - an early European Historic Places house, other historic houses, library and a small super market, whole food and fresh vegetables shop on your door step. The cottage has just finished building a new bathroom with walk in shower and a new separate toilet, there is also a bath, plenty of hot water, deck chairs, deck, fridge, stove, washing machine, all the required essential kitchen gear and a garden suitable for tents. Please note: it is an 'old fashioned and simple family bach'- there is no TV, microwave or wifi. Furniture is 'eclectic' but very comfortable.
There are many activities available like kayaking and windsurfing from the front garden ( 2hrs either side of high tide ) fishing, golf, horse riding. With a 15 min drive you have sandboarding at Opononi and 30min drive you are at the Waipoua forest and visit Tane Mahuta the 'largest' Kauri tree. Finally you are 45min drive to the Bay of Islands ( Pihia and KeriKeri )

Nostalgic Privilege! 280 degree front views of the moana, acres of lush green yonder with hahi, urupā, te waka aa kaihao and peaceful tranquility. Pickering Cottage stay was clean, with cosy nooks, traditional cuboards and their fittings, slanted walls, drift wood curtain rods and door handles. Traditional side draws and dining furnisher, no wall paper present with my favourite being the wide KAURI floors. WOW!! Enjoyed the huge washing utility room that housed everything from washing machine, storage, tools; you name it, they have it!! Oh the new renovated area and foyer entry is beautiful. What did we change? We moved the outside chairs and table to the front balcony. Closer to the sea and great korero with the locals. The Cottage oozed History telling of it's own whakapapa proudly present as photos on it's walls and connections to this whenua. Ngā mihi nui kia kōrua (owners) THANK YOU.

Amazing whānau friendly cottage, exactly what we needed to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and visit whānau for catch ups. Awesome stay, kids had an absolute blast.

Plenty of useful information provided by owner prior to our arrival in Rawene…made our arrival and access to cottage very easy. Good drives to Tane Mahuta and beaches. The cottage is rustic but very comfortable. New shower very good.

A family bach right on the waterfront which so kindly is let out to strangers ia bookabach. It was a real privilege to stay in this lovely home. Time slows right down in Rawene - it was perfect.

We absolutely loved staying in this historic character filled typical NZ beach Bach. To lie in bed and watch the tide and the birds and listen to the music of the water lapping the shore is a real holiday. Our only problem was that we were unable to access the online code for entry. However we knew in such a small community we would be sure to find someone who knew the property manager and within a short time we discovered the wonderful Sharon. Full of bounce and caring energy she soon had us in, making sure we had all we needed for a delightful stay. Thank you so much.

Loved the rustic feel. Comfortable beds. Plenty of Linen. Lots of space. On the negative we had problems locating the key but the lovely cleaner made up for the inconvenience.

Beautifully situated by the sea, my family and I enjoyed our 2 nights stay. It was really good there was no wifi or tv... close to the hokianga ferry, yummy fish n chips... woke up to the birds singing and chirping away, a sound i miss so much from back in the islands. Highly recommended if you want to lay back and enjoy the peace away from the busy city life. Thank you Gerald. 😊
