Terrible nighttime noise from McDonalds and street Needs some double glazing or some solution in front bedrooms. Bathroom in large back bedroom icy and no heating. Unusable for bath or shower.

Lovely house shame about the noise

Everything you could think of in the house ,very comfy beds, well equipped, 👍

Extremely noisy from drunks, students congregating outside mcdonalds all night into the very early hours kept family awake that were in the bedrooms on the road side , then they had wagons , bin wagons , music after students dispersed, shame the house isn't tripple glazed it would have been perfect and we would return

It can be loud, especially in the rooms on the front of the house but earplugs are provided. Only improvement is there could be a few more coat hangers in each bedroom.

Shower in the master bedroom wasn’t great. Quite a few things in the house need maintenance. Would be helpful to have basic condiments too.

Location for the daytime was good. Would not go again with all the trouble outside the rooms.

The property was quite spacious

Very limited in terms of a welcome pack a few sachets of milk a few sachets of coffee and a few teabags not what we’ve been used to in the past Also it is opposite of 24 hour McDonald’s there was a riot going on until 3 am early Saturday morning and 5 am on Sunday morning which ended with the riot police coming. It was so so noisy. There was no way you could sleep if you’re in the front two bedrooms. And Saturday night early hours of Sunday 100 young people mainly men outside so so noisy.

Great house

The house is lovely. 4 large bedrooms on the 2nd floor and 3rd floor. 1st floor is the kitchen and living room. Toilet near living room downstairs. The kitchen had everything you'd need for a short stay. Didn't cook in the kitchen, though. Two bedrooms on the 3rd floor had en-suites. The 2 bedrooms on the 3rd floor shared a bathroom down the stairs between the 2nd floor and 3rd floor. The shower was good, but be careful, the hot water ran out after 6 if us showered. I believe there is a hot water buster button, though. The two rooms on the back of the property with Minster views were lovely and no noise, but the front two bedrooms you can hear people talking in the street and it doesn't help that there's a 24 hour McDonald's right opposite. However, they do provide ear plugs, and if you are in the front bedrooms overlooking the street, use them. The location is brilliant and would recommend for large groups/ couples.

Good location apart from noise during night

Location to city centre. 4 bedrooms 3 bathroom plus seoerate toilet very handy.

As said before in certain bedrooms the overnight noise from the 24hr McDonalds plus waste disposal vehicles! Few plumbing issues kitchen tap then one of en suite basins wouldn't run away but they came out and fixed that. Attic bathroom very neat and hot towel rail too close to toilet seat! No shelf in that bathroom for two couples to share could have had a shelf on wall plus coat hook on door would have been handy

Fantastic location and building marred by the noise at night from McDonalds as it served revellers and restocked in the

The property was fantastic. However, the nights were very noisy for the occupants in the front bedrooms. It is opposite an all night McDonalds which serves everyone coming out of nightclubs etc and then a huge lorry comes in the early hours and restocks. This lorry has metal trays and containers which kept those sleeping in the front bedrooms wide awake. A real shame as we loved the property and the location but some of were very tired after after a sleepless night. They do provide ear plugs but these are did not keep out the sounds. Could not understand why secondary double glazing was not in place.

excellent accommodation but not nice neighbours

loved that it was spacious and comfortable. nice to have a table we could all sit around to play games and eat. loved the location. right in the centre of York. location couldn’t be better

We were told the designated smoking area is the courtyard. (we have it in writing) just two of the group smoked so went on to the courtyard. the neighbours complained and said smoking was not allowed on the courtyard and were not very nice. We then received a phone call from the proprietor. They had complained about the smoking and said we were rowdy. That was totally not true. if you can call two people quietly chatting whilst having a cigarette rowdy then guilty. I just do not think they liked the property being rented out as an holiday let as they’re all private residents. The proprietors threatened to ask us to leave if there was further disturbance. There wasn’t one in the first place so I felt on edge the rest of the weekend. The two that smoked had a cigarette outside the front of the property for the rest of the stay. One of them said she didn’t feel safe outside alone at night (the other had gone to bed)

Wow! What a wonderful place to stay in York. Stunning home with beautiful English furniture, full of original design details. A high level of cleanliness and a fully equipped kitchen. We received an excellent response from the hosts and the location was excellent And close to all the main places in York. It is highly recommended and made our stay in the city especially special and wonderful!

Very easy booking, host welcoming & informative, secure easy access to property. Fabulous, central location. House large with several floors. All bedrooms very nice & comfy, some with Minster view.

House is opposite a 24 hour Macdonalds so quite noisy on & off throughout the night, stayed midweek so imagine the noise could increase at weekends, would recommend ear plugs for those staying in front bedrooms.

Very nice and comfortable place, but very loud at night.

A very central location and exactly as it advertises, it is within a 5 min walk to the Minster. The house was very big, all bedrooms were large but only 2 had ensuite bathrooms.

The 2 bedrooms at the rear of the house, were very nice and quiet. The 2 rooms facing the road were very loud at night and it was difficult to sleep at night with all the loud noise and disruption outside. Earplugs were provided, which was nice, but still it was very loud. This is understandable being in the city centre but worth considering.

Nice house, but very difficult host with financial punishment if you don't meet their expectation

Good house and location. All of the facilities are provided as in description. It has 3 floors, so consider if you have kids or disable in the group

The host is not supportive at all and mis-communicated. We was fined 100 pounds for the cleanliness after we left, although they communicated the 100 pounds deposit only for damages (We did not damage any single thing in the house). I suggest they should communicate clearly their expectation of cleanliness. We traveled a lot, in different countries (Genius Level 3 on booking.com only), but we never encounter such a high standard from a host and such an amount of punishment.

Noise from the street all night through to 7am for anyone sleeping in the front bedrooms, ear plugs did not block any of the noise, maybe double glazing would have helped.

House was excellent with exception of location. Inside was very good and as expected and we enjoyed the big lounge to relax in as a family. The rest of the in house facilities were very good also

Unfortunately during the night in the front facing rooms there was a lot of loud street noise going on ; 1st night until 3am, 2nd night until 4:30 am, 3rd night off and on until about 4:00am and 4th night it was raining so most people stayed off the street. My wife and I lay awake for hours because of this. The rear facing rooms were not affected by the street noise. Unfortunately because of this we would not return to St Helen's... Sorry. You may want to consider some form of sound insulation for the front facing rooms, perhaps triple glazing

Amazing location

Very nice house with amazing location in the city center. Fits a large group! Clean rooms and bathrooms, comfy beds. Five star host.

The house has a looot of stairs, entrance in the ground floor, common areas in 1st, and rooms in the 2nd and 3rd floor. That was not clear in the description and is important when travelling with grandparents and baby. It doesn’t have a cot. Common areas were not as clean as the bedrooms and bathrooms.

heating was all plug ins or storage heaters not many spare plugs sockets. The main oven didn’t work. Those sleeping in the front rooms quite noisy in front rooms until 0300 am due to central location but fine in the back rooms. homeless man lives in building porch.

Brilliant stay.

Everything was just comfortable, easy and the location really couldn't be any better. The house is really traditional and we liked that. The view of the Minster is beautiful and you walk onto the street and you have everything there. We went as a group to celebrate a birthday and it was perfect. Every room was huge!

With it being York, there is no parking but the long stay car park is only a short walk away - you actually get to walk through the beautiful museum gardens.
