Awful

The reception desk is not manned. The host were also serving a very busy bar so we had to wait

Felt very unsafe in this accommodation! We travelled with a young family would have left in the early hours of the morning due to this incident but sadly could not. A fight broke out, screaming and shouting, outside the inn, which led to a person smashing a window and several police vans. We was not reassured by the host that we were safe or to stay in the hotel room. Added on to this the noise from the street until 5am in the morning was horrific we had no sleep all night. The window were so thin, room was hot and the cold water tap did not work pumped water intermittently. The location of the hotel was perfect and the host were very lovely.

Tansy House, lovely place to stay.

We would definitely recommend Tansy House. The place was clean, comfortable and a good size. We were very happy with our stay there. The tea and coffee was lovely. Parking for one car was extremely useful. Near to everything in York. Host was responsive and helpful.

The shower turned hot and cold frequently. We hired a cot, but no bedding or towels were supplied for the child.

Two night Tansy house stay.

When me and my family walked in to the house first impressions were it was clean and after looking around it was big enough for all six of us. We loved the cinema room and watched a few films and the hamper with tea and coffee in was nice. The bedrooms were spacious and the beds were comfy, the house had everything we needed for a two night stay. My children loved the ice machine and we used the popcorn machine once. Thought there was no where to store luggage downstairs but it wasn't until we were going to leave that we noticed a large cupboard in the kitchen that we could of used. It would of been nice to write something in the guest book but there was no room. Would definitely stay there again as my children's favourite things were the ice machine and the cinema room.

There was a sign saying about not going out after 11pm because of the neighbours but one night the neighbours were making noise coming home late. Just some recommendations I think that there should be a thick curtain up just before you walk into the cinema room as it was annoying when you were watching a film and someone comes down the stairs and the lights come on which shines on the projector screen. Also my parents who are in their 70's stayed with me and my children in the house and they had no where to really watch TV apart from sitting at the kitchen table as the sofa was positioned underneath the TV. My parents came down to the cinema room but we all thought there needed to be a rail on the side of the wall as it is hard to walk down the last lot of stairs to the cinema room as there was nothing to hold on to. Also the bathroom door bolt upstairs didn't lock and didn't know where there was extra toilet roll so had to be nosey (which I hate doing) but found some in a basket on the shelf in the upstairs bathroom.

Very enjoyable.

Very accessible for visiting York. Very clean and had everything you needed. Having the key code was much easier than having a key as we weren’t all coming and going at the same time.

A bit noisy with people passing by mainly to and from the train station.

Awesome locatiom for a weekend away

Plenty of space for 8 guests. Bedrooms comfortable and house well presented and clean. Staff super helpful and v accomodating.

Some of the chairs (black) around the dining table were a little rickety and we didnt want to use them..might be an idea to replace them as a larger party we were struggling to all sit together

Thoughtful details make this stay a delight

We had a wonderful experience. The property was impeccably clean, and we were impressed with the size of all the rooms – plenty of space! The open-plan kitchen and dining area was a real highlight – spacious, well-stocked, and perfect for gathering. It was clear the hosts paid attention to the little things, providing miniature shower gel, shampoo, and even washing up liquid, which was a lovely touch. We also enjoyed having games on hand, and the cinema room was a fantastic and unique feature that we thoroughly enjoyed.

Great location, had everything we needed and communication was excellent.

Location was good, very close to train station and had everything we needed. Within walking distance of the centre and lots of bars, cafes and shops close by.

The only minor thing was we were unable to get the television working, however as we were out most of the time it wasn’t a major issue.

Will definitely be using this as our base when we visit York in the future.

This was perfect for us, the cinema room was a great bonus. Beds were so comfy, lots of little touches added, very welcoming and lots of communication to make sure we knew what we were doing and that it suited our needs.

A second shower would come in handy but that’s being picky! Loved the property.

Host/landlord stingy with heating control. As weatehr was cold, the house was very cold and we couldnt control the heating, as it was done remotely.

Lovely house, great location, excellent amenities & bonus parking space!

Lovely house with some quirky nick-naks which we loved. Excellent location - just outside the city wall and a few minutes from station. Traffic is very busy around York and parking is difficult - the parking space is a great addition. The bedrooms (2 on the top floor and 1 in the basement) were spacious and beds very comfortable. Kitchen was great - huge American style fridge freezer with cold water & ice, dishwasher and washing machine (which came in very useful when daughter arrived with her washing from uni!). Plenty of utensils, plates, glasses etc. Cinema room was a huge hit - we sat in there every evening watching TV and eating popcorn (courtesy of popcorn maker). Bathroom on 1st floor was compact but functional - shower had good power and was nice and hot. Plenty of towels and spares in wardrobe. Welcome hamper was a lovely surprise! Thanks for a great week.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but if I had to be really picky: although there was a 2nd toilet in the basement which was useful, as there was only one bathroom, it could be awkward if everyone (there were 5 of us) wanted showers in the morning. Table or dressing table in bedrooms would be useful - dresser was great but only a small area to put things on. Some of the crockery wasn’t completely clean although think this was down to dishwasher arm not spinning properly - just needed putting back into place. House is on a busy road - didn’t bother us at all but if staying in summer with windows open, might be a bit noisy. These are only very minor issues and will not stop us returning.

The location was fantastic. Great bars and restaurants on our doorstep, right next to the train station. The house was very clean and spacious. Great for parking. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and can't wait to stay here again. The prosecco and welcome pack was such a lovely touch 😍

The Tansy House was an exceptional base for our trip to York, within easy walking distance of all the sights and handy for the railway station and local buses. It's a beautiful house with some lovely little extras. So comfortable. I will be booking it again.

Perfect location to explore York

We had such a great stay at The Tansy House. It is in a perfect location, just outside of York’s walls, and was easily walkable to the city centre. Having a free parking pass was amazing, and the car park was so close too. We stayed as a group of 8 so used the cinema room as a bedroom, but this was still comfortable and we felt like we had enough room for all of us. Daisy was great and gave loads of communication beforehand, and was contactable throughout if we needed anything. The kitchen was really well stocked and perfect for making meals for a group of people. I would definitely stay again!

Exceptional

Beautiful and warm house with lots of lovely welcoming touches. Really clear and helpful pre arrival instructions. The layout is very well done, with the large kitchen table for eating and socialising at the front (noisier from the road) part of the house and the basement cinema room providing comfortable seating in a quieter spot. 2 of the 3 large bedrooms are at the back of the house and away from any road noise. The location was great and once the car was safely parked (for free, thanks to the parking permit provided) we didn't need to use it at all. Some family members arrived by train. It's around a 5 minute walk to the rail station, so they could make their own way to the house without need for lifts or taxis. I expected to hear lots of train noise, but didn't hear any. Everything was fantastic, would definitely stay here again if we had another family get together in York.

Excellent family stay in York, great location and facilities

The location was ideal, it was easy to find and very useful with having car parking nearby. The cinema room was great and the little touches on arrival helped make a great stay.

The front door could either be replaced or have a thick curtain to help with the draft, its minor really but to help not lose heat in the colder months when we stayed. That being said its not a cold house just when you walk near the front door.
