Boutique Hotel Hancelot

Good breakfast with eggs cooked to order. Big room with comfortable seating area. Very friendly, welcoming staff. Convenient tram stop very nearby which took us directly to the main part of the city and back to the train station. Trams run late into the evening.

As expected from previous reviews, the place was a bit quirky! The wooden floor in the room was starting to splinter (pack slippers!). The TV was temperamental (running through an old digi box). No fridge in room which would have been nice as there is no hotel bar and no bars or shops nearby.

The lady at the reception at day time was the ultimate multitasker and customer service award winner. She also took care of breakfast, which was very good and came along the room price. There was a tram and bus stop just 50m from hotel door to go to the St. Pieter's train station or do shopping and sight seeing. Walking distance to historical sights is about 1km / 15min. We got the city guide with hints from the reception. The looks of the public areas and rooms are nice and old-stylish suiting the original age of the building.

The cleaning was not at superior standard, but mostly ok. Some features in the room like elctric plugs and renovated bathroom features were a bit clumsily executed. This is a very old building by heart, so expect the temperature in the hotel to follow what happens in the weather outside. In the winter / spring time you might want to dress warmly for the breakfast. The rooms are not very silent what comes to living with other guests. F.ex. The floors sound as old as they are. No restaurants in the building or the nearby blocks.

easy check-in. Convenient location to the historic district. The Tram stop is just around the corner. The hotel foyer oozes historic charm. The breakfast was very good!

No elevator! We had a 3rd floor room which had a tiny corner shower. The sitting area of the room was a nice bonus, but the chairs are very old and with stained fabric - they need a refresh.

Dining room and breakfast were excellent

My bedroom (1d) needed a major upgrade - specifically the bathroom which was grim. The location was bad! Yes it was 15 minute walk or bus to a decent pocket of Ghent but the immediacy was very sterile - total lack of local cafes or little restaurants - bit of a no man’s land so be warned !
