Maybe not the most dog-friendly as the noise annoyed ours, but friendly hosts

Didn't really stay long enough to experience much. We got to use the pool, which was nice. The host was friendly. Oh. They had an EV charger.

We found the hotel to be extremely noisy. I know that noise can be very subjective. And will probably be different week-to-week. For every person complaining about noise, there's probably someone upstairs having a whale of a time. So, I've tried to be fair and not mark it down to a level that we probably would have on the day. But we seemed to be walked to the far end of the hotel, placed next to the swimming pool/smoking area on a hot day, when we needed the windows open. There was a lot of noise from the pool and people right outside our window chatting in the early evening, and later in the evening we could hear phonesex-girl down the corridor in the sort of social area, even if we went and closed the door in the corridor. We tried staying, but when everyone upstairs came back after midnight and decided to start dancing and moving all the furniture around, followed by seemingly continuous showers, we gave up. We paid for 3 nights. Left after 1am, the first night. A decision not taken lightly (with a 3 hour journey back). It didn't seem the best area, if you needed to take your dog out for a walk.

Great long weekend in Devon.

Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Hosts, Ian and Deb were amazing and very helpful. Breakfast was fantastic with the best poached eggs ever. Nice pool and hot tub and an inexpensive bar.

Wonderful place!

Our stay at The Purple Tree Guest House was nothing short of perfect, and it's all thanks to the incredible hospitality and wonderful setting. From the moment we arrived, we felt welcomed and looked after. The standout of our visit was the exceptional customer service from our host, Ian and Debs. He truly goes above and beyond to make his guests feel special. I had secretly planned to have some surprise flowers waiting in our room, and they handled the request flawlessly, helping to make a special moment even more memorable. His attentiveness and genuine care are what set this place apart. The guest house itself is full of a wonderful, old-school charm that feels both elegant and incredibly comfortable. We were blown away by the size of our room – it was huge! There was so much space to spread out and relax, making it feel like a true home away from home. One of our favourite features was the beautiful pool area. It was the perfect spot to unwind and soak up the sun on a lazy afternoon. If you're looking for a place with character, warmth, and a host who makes you feel like a valued friend rather than just a guest, you cannot do better than The Purple Tree.

Lovely relaxing stay

From the moment we arrived and throughout our stay our hosts Ian and Debbie were fantastic and with lots of information about the area, the rooms were clean and homely and the outdoor pool was amazing, breakfast was very nice with lots of choice, would highly recommend The Purple Tree as a home away from home.

Lovely stay. Debbie and Ian are wonderful hosts and really care about their guests. My room was clean and comfortable, delicious breakfast and the pool area was the highlight! The no. 12 bus was right outside for easy access to the harbour and beach, and Torre railway station is just down the road. Torquay is a great base to explore the English Riviera by car or public transport. I hope to stay again!

Limited parking on site, but I ended up parking across the road which was free and easier to get in and out of anyway.

Wonderful!

Breakfast was lovely cooked with good produce. Rooms were clean and tidy, bathroom was immaculately clean! Our room could have been slightly bigger as four of us but to be honest it didn’t really matter as we were out all day exploring! Great hosts!

Spacioas Room

Fantastic hosts and room (room 6). There was a nice view from the window and the bed was comfortable. Nice shower and overall the building was well put together. Spacioas room with high ceilings throughout the building. I didn’t use the pool but it seemed well maintained. My wife forgot some items of clothing and the hosts were nice enough to keep them safe and post them to me.

I liked the area, but there are parts of the most direct route to Torquay Beach which weren't always the nicest to walk through. I am however from the countryside and tolerance of the bad points of towns is low so take this comment with a pinch of salt.

Disappointed

cleanliness and the hosting couple seem nice, especially the husband, very sweet and apologetic.

Room size and discomfort, poor arrangment: Window can only open 1 cm, no space to put our bags or any surfaces for our wash bags or other belongings, all our stuff was spread on the floor, no hangers or hooks, only one rail for one towel, we kept the rest of the towels on the bathroom door handle and our bed and shift them from one place to another. The wardrobe is tiny and the door can not open fully as the bed was in the way, neither can the toilet door as it hit the toilet. We have to squeeze ourselves to use either of them.This room is not suted for two people (especially two adults) due to the small size and is not good for renting, due to poor fixing and arrangment. Without the breakfast and with this quality of room £360 for three nights is not justified. We were offered bigger room for an extra pay but we didn't think we have to pay extra as the cost of the room we stayed was overpriced and we were not prepare to spend any more on the accomodation. We left a day earlier as we were struggling to have a good stay and sleep.

Great holiday , no complaints and the weather was a bonus too

We didn’t have breakfast whilst there but the option was available if we had wanted it . Biggest selling point was the swimming pool my daughter loved it . We also enjoyed playing pool and darts in the games room . Location was good as was a short walk into town and to the beach

Perfect in every sense :)

Last minute decision on Friday evening to head to Torquay, The purple tree was a perfect stay from the moment we arrived (Arrived close to midnight -Debbie waited up for us!) Just lovely, our breakfast on Saturday morning was delicious thank you very much David :) We throughly enjoyed our stay and so did Parker our fur baby - We walked into town throughout our stay but there is a bus stop outside the purple tree that takes you right into the harbour, the outdoor pool was appreciated after a full day in Torbay, a great 2 night stay, we will definitely be back - wouldn't consider staying anywhere else now we have stayed here - See you soon, Emma and Colin x

from the moment we was greeted, we were made to feel welcome by Ian and Debbie. breakfast was spot on cooked to how we asked and also changed dietary needs on request. the communication was amazing and also we had help finding out where thing to do were and to get the best out of our stay.

Very good

The pool was wonderful. The breakfast was delicious. Hosts were fantastic, and enjoyed looking at the glass, we would have booked a workshop in the studio if we had more time.

The location was a long walk to restaurants but an easy drive out to visit local area.
