Very friendly staff who were very personable. Attention to detail was fantastic, with everything thought of for a comfortable and clean stay. They even give you a welcome cake, a goodbye snack bag, and plenty of room snacks.

Joe and Steve were incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was great, the service way beyond average (fridge refilled and fresh cake or similar every day, lunch bag on day of departure). We really didn't miss a thing!

These two guys have got the guest house absolutely 'top notch' Would not hesitate to recommend to anyone. A prime example of how this industry should be run. Well done guys on what you provide doing it right x

Absolutely nothing

A lot of care and attention to detail has been put in to the accommodation including the provision of extra free items such as snacks and food and drinks. The breakfast is very good. The hosts are very personable and keen to please. The bed was comfortable and the room was quiet despite main road location as provided room at the back.

I was in a single room and even by the standards of single rooms across UK and Europe the bedroom area was small which was exacerbated by not placing bed in the corner of the room and the prescence of a lot of clutter. And I am a slim small person. The bathroom was of an average size for single rooms. The location whilst in an area of similar type accommodation does not feel convenient for walking to restaurants and other facilities. The car parking off main road is tricky but manageable.

Wonderful 6 night stay at this very special guest house. Stephen and Joseph go the extra mile to make sure all their guests are exceptionally well looked after. I was made to feel very welcome from my arrival to when I left. I was upgraded from the single room to the super king ground floor room which I really appreciated. Everywhere is spotless and full of character. The breakfasts are beautiful with a great choice of fruit, pastries, yoghurts and any combination of a full English breakfast with toast and jams, fresh juices and cereals. There is a fridge in your room and every day there is fresh milk for your tea/coffee, orange juice, water and even some g&t cans. Freshly baked cake left in your room each day - I felt totally spoilt! They were happy to advise on local information and were on hand to help all of the time. Minutes from train station and convenient for lots of destinations. Such a hardworking, genuine couple whom I had the pleasure of meeting. I feel I have made some lovely friends and can’t wait to see you both soon. Thank you for everything.

Great friendly hosts. Super clean room with everything and more that you need for your stay. Excellent choice of breakfast cooked to order. Free parking on site with limited places.plenty of street parking available. Have stayed here before and found it faultless.i wil be back hopefuly.

The whole property inside and out was top notch, room had everything we wanted/needed with comfy bed and chairs as well as amazingly fantastic decor. Didn’t want to come out the lovely shower, our dog Ruby too loved the love she got from hosts and guests. Every item had a great story behind it and explained by Steve or Joe. Comfort all round, location great and free parking right outside our room window. Breakfast cooked to perfection with everything available as well as mouth watering vegetarian options. Home baked cakes all day everyday, fantastic priced bar with anything you should desire. £15 for evening dinner if you order day before includes desert and drink. Oh the company of the hosts and guests was fantastic made new friends and yes when we go to Torquay again it has to be Garway Lodge I can also use my genius points to discount and other add ins. Lovely seating area amongst the front garden surrounded with flowers and plants. I could write a book about the positivity of Garway Lodge. Steve and Joe we thank you see you very soon

After a long day of walking the coastal path I was instantly grateful for this charming BnB and wonderful hosts. My room was fully stocked with goodies (incl. homemade cake and complimentary drinks) and beautifully decorated. I sat in the lounge with a well stocked honesty bar before dinner, and was offered dinner recommendations. It was a great comfortable night’s sleep, with a perfect breakfast the next morning. I was offered lots of top ups and was even sent away for the day with a bag with fruit, water and more cake. I’d highly recommend the very reasonable rates and lovely hospitality at Garway Lodge.

Over the years we have stayed at many excellent B&B’s but none have reached the level of excellence Joseph and Steve have achieved. In my option, what gives them the edge is the passion they put into achieving the perfect stay for their guests. Steve’s freshly baked cakes, one of which is placed in your room every day. The luxurious bathrobe as standard, a very high level of cleanliness throughout and a shower that works perfectly - a rarity in my opinion! The excellent breakfast, made to order while you wait. Delicious packed lunches, again made to order. Nothing is too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in recommending this particular B&B if Torquay is your destination.

The hosts are extremely friendly, and go out of their way to enhance the guest experience. Nothing is too much trouble. From Fresh Milk, OJ and other complementary drinks and snacks to even giving me a piece of flapjack and a Banana to keep me going on my daily travels for work. Outstanding! Great Value for money, and a great breakfast too.

There wasn't anything to dislike

We received such a warm and friendly welcome from Steve when we arrived at the B&B. He gave us a lovely introduction to the facilities, including a small but well-stocked honesty bar in the lounge, a beautiful breakfast room, and our light, airy king-size room (Room 3). I was genuinely blown away when we walked in. The room was stylish and quaint, with every little detail thought of — and more! Delicious homemade cake slices, crisps, biscuits, bottled water, and even cocktails in the fridge. There were also tea and coffee facilities, of course. The en-suite shower was hot and powerful, with high-quality, divine-smelling toiletries. We were provided with fluffy white towels, slippers, and cosy dressing gowns — such a luxurious touch. The bed was super comfy with crisp, luxurious bedding, and the whole room was spotlessly clean. There was even plenty of space for our little dog’s crate. Breakfast each morning was prepared by Joseph and was absolutely delicious. You place your order the night before, and it’s ready shortly after you’re served a pot of tea and hot toast. The spread included fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, condiments, and a variety of cooked breakfast options — including gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan choices. Our dog was also treated to his own special cooked breakfast, which he loved! All three of us started our days happy and full. Steve was incredibly helpful with local tips. The train station is just a 6-minute walk away, and from Paignton you can easily catch a bus anywhere — very convenient. To top it all off, we were given a packed lunch on checkout! Water, fresh fruit, a cereal bar, and a homemade Jack Flap (which was delicious). We honestly didn’t want to leave — everything was above and beyond our expectations. We will definitely be back. A well-deserved 10/10!

Going home

Owners were brilliant, helpful, kind, accommodating, flexible, facilities were outstanding!! Best place I have ever stayed and fantastic value for money. Was home away from home and myself and my dog felt so looked after and cared for in all aspects…dog poo bags and treats complimentary, my dog was treated and pampered just as much as myself!! Room amenities exceptional, everything you could possibly need or even want, fresh baked cakes everyday!! Complimentary toiletries and drinks and snacks in fridge and basket!! So quite and peaceful. My room and all areas spotless!! Such a relaxing atmosphere and nothing was too much to ask for or change. Location perfect 5 mins from station and short walk to waterfront and other attractions. Cannot wait to book again!!!

Absolutely nothing everything was brilliant!!!

This was our 3rd visit in a year to Garway Lodge. Joseph and Steve are fabulous hosts, very friendly and welcoming. Our room was comfortable, spotlessly clean, fully equipped with toiletries, slippers, robes, a snack box and a stocked mini fridge. Excellent extensive breakfast menu, where individual requests were fully catered for. A snack bag on departure for the journey home was the icing on the cake (and we certainly savoured lots of delicious homemade cakes during our stay). I'm sure this won't be our last visit this year. Thank you for looking after us Joseph and Steve.

The hosts from booking to leaving were absolutely first class, nothing too much trouble for them. The accommodation was lovely and clean, everything had a luxury feel to it and the bed was very comfortable. All the little extras in the room was a lovely touch and to have mini fridge as well, great. The shared lounge and honesty bar was a great addition and a good price. Even though I didn’t stay for breakfast the quantity and quality on offer to start with was amazing. Thank you Joseph & Steve for a wonderful stay.

What a lovely place to stay. The room was beautiful, breakfast was excellent, and I lost count of all the many thoughtful touches and helpful amenities. On arrival I had a delicious piece of homemade cake in my room to welcome me. There is an honesty bar in the cosy downstairs guest lounge. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Joseph and Steve were such kind, friendly and helpful hosts. The next time I am staying in the area this will be the first place I think of to stay. I can’t praise it highly enough.

Warm welcome from Jo and Steve..They felt like old friends . Lots of attention to detail , with homemade cake and a snack box. Good linen( 100% cotton) on bed with fluffy towels and bathrobe.. Selection of hot drinks as well as juice and water and milk in the little fridge.. I couldn't have the full English as was leaving very early for a swimming event although I was asked if I wanted to come back after for a shower and breakfast. How wonderful was that! Ideally placed for Torquay sea front and only 10mins walk from Torre Abbey which is well worth a visit.. Can highly recommend this lovely place. Look forward to seeing you both next year!

I had the loveliest time at this B&B. Joseph makes an incredible breakfast, and Steve surprised me every single day with a new cake creation – each one better than the last! From the very first five minutes, you can feel how much love and care they pour into this place. We had a wonderful stay with Steve and Joseph they are so welcoming and work so hard to make sure everything is perfect. Our room was large and beautifully furnished and the bed really comfortable. The bathroom is modern and includes robes and spa toiletries. Steve bakes delicious fresh cakes every day and would leave them in our room as well as complimentary drinks and snacks. There is a huge choice of breakfast buffet items as well as full English and other cooked options made fresh to order. There is also a lounge with a well stocked bar. We honestly think it is the best p!ace we have ever stayed, it was faultless and we can't thank Steve and Joseph enough for such a lovely holiday.

Typical building in this area but the detail and quirky little art deco style and fascinating pictures and artistic touches Joseph and Steve have added make this way beyond your usual guest house. Nothing was too much trouble and the homemade cake upon arrival and the sumptuous flapjacks and brownie’s they made for our departure were well above and beyond.

Our stay was perfect. Joseph & Steve had done, & thought, of everything to make it a wonderful stay. Nothing was too much trouble & they couldn’t have been more welcoming. The rooms were immaculate & breakfast was amazing. They even gave us a packed lunch each for our journey home. We will definitely return for further stays with them. Faultless!
