Beautiful location, great food and drinks
2.0 / 10.0
The setting is beautiful, with a stunning view over the bay. Breakfast was good and served in a pleasant spot facing the sea.
Access to the property depends entirely on boats (20 R$ per person each way), and it’s impossible to walk to the village except at low tide. The boat transfer schedule is very disorganized, and we waited a long time for a boat that arrived late — quite stressful when you have an appointment.
The stairs to the rooms are very steep, and the place feels old and poorly maintained. The sheets and towels smelled bad, the bathroom sink was clogged, and there was no hot water.
At both check-in and check-out, the staff were not friendly. Even after we mentioned the issues, no gesture or reduction was offered for the boat transfers.
Service is slow, schedules are confusing, and the overall experience is disappointing.
It’s not really a hotel, but more like a guesthouse, and the price is far too high for what it offers.
In summary:
We really do not recommend this place.

The location is beautiful and feels like absolute paradise and very exclusive. We booked the honeymoonsuite and it was as gorgeous as pictured. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was great and plentifull. Getting to and from the resort takes a 10 minute boatride or a 20 minute hike through the jungle and shores. Loved the bar and happy hour! Also two wonderfull beaches can be reached by using the back exit at the resort, both beaches have restaurants and are dreamy places to spend an aternoon. The village nearby is very cute and worth a visit.
The shower did not have hot water during our first day, after we reported that they sent someone to fix it the next day, then we had hot water but no cold water. It took some time but that was also fixed, things happen of course but for the premium price we payed we were a bit suprised that we were not compensated for the inconvenience.
Communication was not always as quick as it could be, asked to communicate through whatsapp was not always quick, phonecalls where often not picked up. Ordering their boattaxi was often replied to with a 10 minute wait, but that mostly turned out to be 30 minutes. For a resort of this quality they surely benefit from and faster boat and more spot on communications. One night we ordered a pizza, they where very accomodating to assist us at the reception but failed to communicate to the boatdriver it had to be picked up, we told him ourselves and all turned out fine. The guys and staff really tried their best. To be honest none of these issues were dealbreakers at all. But given the prices, the bar was set high. We had a great time though and thank the staff for their efforts and welcoming atmosphere.

The staff was absolutely incredible and went out of their way to make our experience as enjoyable as possible. Every tour we booked through the hotel picked us up right on the hotel dock so we didn’t have to make the trip into town. On our last day, we were hoping to take a taxi to Lopes Mendes beach, but since it was the slower season, they did not have any return trips planned for 3pm. Fabrizio made so many phone calls that morning to ensure we could enjoy Lopes Mendes AND get back to the main dock on time to catch our return trip to the mainland. We were so blown away by his positive attitude and enthusiasm to make our stay memorable. If you are looking for the best spot to relax in paradise, Asalem is definitely the place!

The view is really nice
The hotel is quite outside the town - they offer an hourly boat service but it’s not reliable (we have waited 20-30 min regularly for a pickup) and you have to schedule the boat ride in advance - plus it costs 20 RS per ride / person.
We had an old room and it was quite rundown - maybe the new ones are better.
I think there are cheaper options with less hassle (boat..) in town

Beautiful location, panoramic sea views. Hotel is lovely and staff are super friendly.
Nothing but some of the furniture is a little dated.

the view is amazing, the location is perfect for people who want to enjoy the pure nature without a noise. quite, peaceful and relaxing
there were some problems with hot water, but they were solved. you should order the dinner no less than in an hour before you going to eat or waiting waiting in the restaurant for a long time

The hotel had a lovely view and was a good size. It also offered a space a bit further away from the main town which was relaxing!
As a general rule, the island is stunning when the weather is good. If the weather isn't good, I wouldn't bother visiting the island
The hotel is fairly basic so the daily night cost is way too high. Plus the hotel charge you per person for the boat back to the town which seems crazy with how much you pay per night
Cleaning wasn't 100%

We stayed here for two nights and we felt so welcome as soon as the boat dropped us off. The staff were incredibly helpful and they even upgraded our room which was amazing!
I would happily recommend this place to anyone who wants a special stay and a view to die for when you wake up.

We chose Asalem as we didn’t want to be in the thick of the central town. The resort is accessed via water taxi from the towns pier (5-7mins) or by a 20 min jungle trek (which can be done in flip flops but during the day vs night would preferable). The property is located on varying levels and would not suit someone with mobility challenges.
The staff are incredible- very welcoming and helpful. The food is probably the best we ate during our travels in Brazil, breakfast is plentiful with fresh fruit, cakes and eggs anyway you like. We ate dinner on 2 nights here and the grilled fish was second to none! The egg plant lasagne was also delicious- portions are vastly generous, you will not go hungry!
You can borrow their canoe and explore a couple of nearby beaches or just sunbathe on the decking and jump straight onto the sea from the jetty.
Lopez Mendes is a 2 hour hike through jungle that can be broken up by beach breaks on route..
Or, you can take a schooner ride from Asalem followed by a 20 min walk (no boat takes you directly to Lopez Mendez).
Loved everything about Asalem. I’d say a minimum of 3 nights would allow you to make the most of it, 4-5 would be better.
The only problem we faced is that we had to leave! Would love to venture back one day for sure!

Our room was the loveliest in our travels so far. The massage was amazing on the veranda. Breakfast and dinner amazing, bon appetite! Boat shuttle to and from town with an awesome sailor. Natalia was so sweet! Andre has much class and style. He has put together quite an experience of paradise!
What's not to like? Everything & everyone we came across was beautiful and peaceful!

Asalem is a real paradise on earth and it was difficult for me to leave…The location of the hotel is perfectly situated in the tropical forest with direct access to the sea. There is a beach (sometimes with live music) reachable by foot in 5 min or by boat in 2 min. The hotel itself is very sweet with only a few rooms. I travelled alone and stayed in a Standard Room, which was lovely, even containing an additional hammock and a beautiful view. Breakfast was delicious, everything fresh. For dinner I mostly ate in Vila Abrao, using the hotel boat. It was very easy and the guys from the hotel very flexible. I really enjoyed my stay at Asalem, they create an unique personal atmosphere which makes you feel at home. I highly recommend staying there and will surely come back!

The staff were super friendly and accommodating. The dinner and the drinks were really tasty.
With the money they make the should be able to keep up better with the property. It's all a bit outdated, needs painting, the curtains were moldy,.... in hindsight i would have preferred to stay at a beach with access to bars and restaurants. Although the shuttle service was efficient, it still requires some planning and waiting.

It was hard for us to leave Asalem. We have grown very fond of the beautiful location and the staff. The breakfast and especially the dinner were fabulous and all homemade! We couldn't have imagined a better hotel for our holidays!

Overall we really enjoyed the place, the staff, the surroundings. Nice big clean rooms, two A/Cs, the view from room and special view from the restarant/breakfast place. The breakfast was extraordinary nice and the not english speaking, young Lady in the Kitchen was SO KIND. (we didnt get her name, shame on us. She has braided hair). It was raining all 6 days but we had a great time anyways and the staff gave good ideas to where to walk and what to see :-) ThankS.
The place - compared to price- really needed a fresh up. It all seemed a bit worned down, the terrace needed oil, the chairs by Water needed a fresh up aswel. For a place This price we think it would be great with more entertaining optiions for borrow(small boats, kayaks, sups, snorkellinggear ect) - it would be a nice thing to have. And free Coffee and water during the day, like almost all other places we have stayed in Brazil. The room, tho it had A/C was really damp, so we had a Feeling that we were wet all the time. Dont know if something can be done about that.

Simple, homely feeling, understated but glorious location. We felt like welcome guests of a really friendly family who were unobtrusive but who loved having us

Location and views were incredible, peaceful and stunning. Staff treated you like family.
The fan seemed to be solar and didn’t work at night, however, that was a small thing as there was a more than capable air conditioner that worked great. Just a thing if you wanted a fan at night instead of AC.

This place was absolutely wonderful. The location is perfect and is close to town. The hotel very kindly picked us up from the main port and took us back when we had to leave. The food is all made in house and was the best meal we had in Brazil. The hosts are English speaking and gave us so many good tips. The toilets work well, the showers are hot, and the beds are comfortable. They also have two canoes available at the private dock that can be taken out at any time. The sunset from the doc is spectacular.

It was nice and quiet which is what I needed. The view from my room was one of the best I’ve ever had. The owners were really nice and catered to all my needs, were always happy to take me in and out from Abraão. The food prepared at the property was really good.
Nothing really. Could have done with coffee/tea making facilities in the room.
