A nice small hotel with cozy rooms
Small, but beautiful, cozy and big rooms. Pool, outside jacuzzi. Wonderful breakfast buffet. Owners and staff nice.

Good
We stayed in a huge illuminated room that had a view of several sides of the hotel and an exit to a large terrace. The view is beautiful and we loved how big the apartment was. The whole area was very clean and well maintained.
The outdoor pool was a disappointment for us, it is quite small and was surrounded by campers nearby at the time we were there. We expected the privacy that can be seen in the pictures from the Booking, but unfortunately at the time we were there, the entire hotel was surrounded by camper vans. Generally, this would not be a problem for us, but this time we did not expect it and we hoped that the environment would be very peaceful. The hotel seems to be popular so you can expect a crowd at meal time - it would seem that people who are not guests of the hotel also come at that time. This is not to be considered a negative side, just something to be aware of before booking.

Great stay in Appenzell!
Very welcoming staff - we are only English speaking and no issues were had. Hotel/grounds are simple but super clean and tidy. Restaurant was great - everyone friendly and food was delicious. It’s about a ten minute drive/20 minute hike into town. Nice to have both options! We hiked from here as well and the area is beautiful with many hiking options right out the front door. Room/view were both amazing!
