It was a great location with easy parking. What a great way to start our Switzerland adventure!!! As soon as we arrived we saw a cow parade go by. You can’t get much better than that!!!

Very nice stay, just a short walk from the train

Lovely spacious corner room overlooking the town. Good breakfast and nice staff. They held our bags for us before check-in so we could go for a hike. We also had dinner there.

Excellent accommodation in a beautiful Swiss village.

The food was incredibly delicious. The salads so fresh and nicely presented. The bathroom was laid out with a nice space for your toiletries.

Lovely hotel in great location.

Bed was very comfortable and room was spacious. My flight was delayed and reception staff were very helpful and good at communicating when I messaged to say I’d be a few hours late.

Ate dinner in the hotel one evening and service sadly was very very slow and staff were unfriendly/bordering on rude. Found the same to be true at breakfast each morning. Must add that the lady on reception was quite the opposite and was exceptionally helpful and friendly so my experience was purely limited to the restaurant.

Very nice comfortable hotel, good location, friendly attentive staff. We only booked bed & breakfast - but ate in the restaurant every night - great choice of lovely food at a reasonable price & lovely staff. Eating A la carte particularly suited our son who doesn't like sauces or "fussy" food & also ourselves as we can't usually manage starters as well as a big main course - so was great for all of us. Breakfasts were superb with a great choice of food also. The Appenzell Guest Card was a real bonus - allowing us lots of free travel on trains & 3 lots of cablecars. We managed a fantastic day trip to Lindau in Germany on Lake Bodensee in just over 2 hours (with 4 train changes) - which with the guest card free to St Gallen - we only had to buy a Bodensee Ticket Day Pass (Zone East) for the day for 22 CHF each with our half price rail pass. This also enabled us to return part of the way by boat.

Slightly more shelving for clothes. A kettle would have been nice (as we had one in hotel in Klosters) & a fridge.

The hotel is exceptional! We enjoyed the daily breakfast with a good spread of food and fruit juices and coffee. Nice and comfortable stay, almost perfect! .Easy to hike the Ebenalp and nearby areas.

No air conditioning. On a warm evening, had to sleep with windows open. Unfortunately, that let in several bugs and lots of noise from restaurant below and various noises during the night. Towels were old. Beds were a bit firm.

Came here as part of our 35th Wedding Anniversary and we are so glad we stayed here.

The breakfast was awesome. Actually the restaurant was probably our favorite dining spot during our entire trip. The food was excellent and we can't wait to visit again. The staff was very attentive and friendly.

One of the most lovely buffets ever! Outstanding selection of bread, fruits, meats, cheese, juice, dried fruits, and nuts! Staff offered coffee, tea & egg selections. Quiet setting and nicely decorated rooms for meals.

A Beautiful Hotel with Excellent Food and Friendly Staff

This is a beautiful hotel directly on the Landsgemeindeplatz – the main square – with lovely views of the village and its surrounding countryside. The food – we had dinner and breakfast there – is excellent and the staff are friendly, welcoming, and efficient. As you would expect in Switzerland, the place is spotlessly clean, and everything is truly well organised. Plus there is ample safe, reserved parking if you travel by car. Absolutely recommended.

We found nothing wrong with this hotel. The two single beds making up a double bed are a bit old school, perhaps, and there clearly are more comfortable solutions, but that's a small cavil amongst an otherwise near-perfect experience, and it may well be that that was simply what we booked because nothing else was available.

Definitely recommended if you’re visiting Appenzell

Clean and comfortable room. Convenient location, short walk from the train station. Breakfast was great and staff were friendly and helpful. Check in and check out were efficient and fuss free. As a female solo traveller, I felt safe during my entire stay at the hotel. One of the best hotels I stayed at during my Swiss trip! Definitely recommended!

Small room, very noisy, slamming doors during our 4 night stay. Felt or rubber stoppers should be put on closet door, bathroom door, room door to cut down on noise. Room was warm so difficult to sleep.

Visit Appenzell - it's Wonderful

Appenzell and Hotel Appenzell were truly delightful. Everything felt welcoming, starting with the staff and the wonderful location. The restaurant is more than excellent. Breakfast was plentiful and cooked to order and perfection. Since we stayed for 3 or more nights, we received the Appenzell card which included not only many discounts, but free cable car/gondola rides. It was the best bargain in our 7 weeks in Switzerland. We loved this hotel and highly recommend it and the area to others.

A must stay in Appenzell!

Everything, except no air conditioning or fan. We had to go buy a fan for our room. We would have loved to keep the windows open, but the flies were horrible. We bought a fan from the Coop, and problem solved. I would definitely stay here again earlier than June or after September! Beautiful property, staff was wonderful and food was delicious! The building is so beautiful and location is perfect!

Very relaxing and comfortable.

The staffs are friendly and helpful. The location is good and in walking distance to restaurants and supermarket. Housekeeping is good and the room is kept clean, neat and tidy all the time.

There is a church nearby and the church bell rings from 5:00 am everyday. The room size is a bit too small for two persons. The pillow is too soft.
