Excellent stay, excellent food, warm and friendly

Was greeted by warm and friendly staff. Room was ready ahead of time and was very clean and comfortable. Roaring fire in the reception, Kicking Goat cider on tap, what's not to like.

Being really really picky.... the smoke detector lights were really bright. staff had added some tape. but it was still a bit annoying

Too many dogs barking in Restaurant ! dog Owners don’t care if other guests want to relax and not hear barking throughout meal .Food was fabulous staff lovely but can not stop barking. Toilet was dirty in bottom

Wonderful will be back

Beautiful property and surroundings. Lovely bedrooms that have a court yard area and fire pit that was lit for us late that evening. Staff so helpful and hard working, service and food stunning. Breakfast same standards and lots of options. We had the room with a patio area so peaceful. Great little find for our anniversary. Thank you all at the Jack Russell, it was lovely.

Disappointed

The food in the restaurant was fantastic

I had paid for an upgraded room but certainly didn’t receive my upgrade. It was meant to have a private entrance; when I questioned this I was told a door off the corridor was a private entrance. It was meant to be sound proofed but we were woken at midnight by the room next door being noisy! We were meant to have garden views; one of the windows did have a view of the front but the other 2 windows all you could see was the aircon /kitchen extraction. I queried this in person with a very unsatisfactory response. I also sent an email on night one which wasn’t acknowledged. There was gun dog function the whole weekend and I couldn’t shake the fact my queries weren’t responded to as our room felt very much like a downgrade to make room for the gun dog clients ( who were rude and obnoxious) I’ve stayed here before and was very much looking forward to returning but was completely disappointed.

One of the reasons I chose the property was because it’s had EV Charging facilities. The charge was newly installed and did not function. The manager tried to help but could not get it going

Lovely part of the world to wake up in

Very clean room, good WiFi and no adds on ITVX streaming service. Lovely choice of teas and Nespresso pods with fresh milk. Comfy beds and pillows.

The room was above the bar which we didn’t realise, as we’ve always stayed in the dog house for previous visits. It was also ridiculously hot, but we turned the radiators off so it was cool enough when going to sleep.

Making memories

I love staying at the Jack Russell and having a meal with the family the Sunday lunch was amazing

It’s our 14th stay at the JR we drive 3 hours to spend time there as we love it 🥰 so much. However it would be nice to be welcomed back it’s as if we don’t exist that type of nonchalant attitude I would like to see changed .

Wonderful!

The peace and privacy of both the location and the rooms allocated - no stairs was very useful. Superb rooms - everything we needed and beautifully decorated. Dinner and breakfast were both top notch, attentive staff and nothing was any bother to them. Beautiful inn - we would definitely like to come along again.

Lovely big rooms and very comfortable. The inn itself was lovely as were the gardens where we had lunch. Dinner was good and reasonably priced. The beef cooked on the fire was delicious. The staff were very pleasant. Breakfasts were good with a decent choice

Not a ‘dislike’ but the lunch menu was a bit disappointing because there were only starters and mains - no sandwiches. I’ve seen this elsewhere so maybe it’s a trend but often at lunch time, especially if you’ll be walking afterwards, a sandwich is what’s required. The good we had was lovely but we all just had starters.

We had a very relaxing stay and would recommend the hotel.

We received a lovely warm welcome when we arrived. We stayed in The Great Dane room which had beautiful views and was very clean. The food in the restaurant was excellent. All the staff were very friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had an enjoyable staff.

The lounge area shown on the website was closed during the period of our stay. No mini fridge in the room.

Such a great find and very pleased with our stay.

This is a hidden gem! Beautiful boutique hotel with a cute dog theme. Each space in this historic building has been beautifully decorated. There are loads of nice extra touches; gifts for your dog along with a Polaroid camera to take pictures for the pet guest book, a beautiful outdoor covered fire lounge area, well maintained gardens. The dining and indoor spaces are lovely. Very good breakfast. The rooms are spacious, comfortable beds, bathrooms are gorgeous with high end soaps and products. There is a great selection of teas. Wish we could have stayed longer!!

It was out of the way, down a bunch of secondary roads but worth it!
