We liked the authentic look of the Machiya. It has plenty of room for the 4 of us. The location is close to Gion which is nice.
The kitchen is on the small side.

Clean. Great location. Nice facilities. Couple of ceilings were rough on tall son husband.
Kitchen was pretty small and not really suited to real cooking. Nice for basics and reheating though.

One word amazing. If you want to get an authentic Kyoto feel with some nice modern touches then you couldn’t find a better place. We stayed with three adults and three kids and found it spacious and homely. The traditional bath was awesome and just what you need after a day sight seeing in Kyoto. Selection of beds and traditional futon sleeping options were great. Fully air conditioned and heated floors make it a delight. You are little away from the hustle and bustle of Gion but close enough to walk to everything including Kiyomizu-dera etc.
Not a negative but like a lot of AirBnB style locations you need to check in at a central office located near Kyoto station.
