It felt like lovely to stay in something historical that had been beautifully renovated. It was tucked away down a little lane so private and quiet.
The kids did not like sleeping on the floor. And the stairs were very steep so tricky to get suitcases up and down.

We liked the authentic look of the Machiya. It has plenty of room for the 4 of us. The location is close to Gion which is nice.
The kitchen is on the small side.

Clean. Great location. Nice facilities. Couple of ceilings were rough on tall son husband.
Kitchen was pretty small and not really suited to real cooking. Nice for basics and reheating though.
