Stairway To Heaven Bungalows and Restaurant

Incredible view and location, excellent snorkelling right out front. Wonderful breakfast and kind staff.

It was beautiful but a little tired. We still absolutely loved it though.

Lovely traditional style units on a fantastic snorkeling beach. Views were great. Directly East facing for an epic sunrise. We also had Lumbung house which had a lot of character and a lovely spot. We slept on the daybed to wake up with the sunrise. Also a good location. In a quieter part of Amed but walking distance from some Warungs and Japanese Shipwreck..

The only real downside is that because of the open air bathrooms you get a lot of leaf litter and it's handy to have that swept out each day. We didn't have housekeeping during our stay.

I loved the location, private beach, the view, sunrise, sounds of waves, walking by the beach lit by full moon… natural, quiet, remote paradise with a good seafood warung 1 min walk away

As many other guests have mentioned, the property feels neglected. It is undeniably dated, but to me that is actually part of its unique charm. The real problem is not its age, but the lack of maintenance, management, and proper cleaning. To bring this place back to life, every bungalow needs a thorough deep clean, not a quick surface wipe, but the removal of years of accumulated dirt. During our four-night stay, our bungalow was never cleaned once. Towels were never replaced, and even these small details make a huge difference. The towels smelled strongly of mold. Although the bungalow had a bathtub with unlimited hot water, I stopped using it altogether because I genuinely worried about getting some infection there. Another major issue that significantly affected our stay was the complete lack of management around the beach loungers. There are only six sun loungers in total, with just two located in the shade. One guest, an unpleasant elderly woman, claimed two or sometimes even three loungers every single day!! One of them became her personal storage area, covered with dirty cups, sunscreen bottles, towels, a snorkelling mask, and even a pillow taken from her room. She also collected random objects from the beach and piled them onto “her” lounger, leaving the area looking cluttered, dirty, and abandoned. What surprised me most was that the staff never cleared or cleaned this area, not even once. For days and nights, it remained exactly the same. It completely changed the appearance of what should have been a beautiful shared garden and beachfront space. I have honestly never seen anything like this in any hotel. I appreciate the relaxed, laid-back atmosphere that these bungalows are meant to offer. However, a relaxed atmosphere should not mean the absence of basic management or allowing one guest to take over shared facilities at the expense of everyone else.

This was by far my least comfortable and least enjoyable stay in Bali. The only positive is the location; everything else was disappointing especially for the price you pay. I tried to take the negative reviews with a grain of salt as I always do, but I should've taken them to heart. I do not write bad reviews, and often overlook small details etc, but... The staff were unfriendly, unhelpful, and at times dishonest. I had to change rooms from a sea-view bungalow to an obstructed view because of a major leak during a rainstorm and was poorly handled by staff. The bungalows are not cleaned during your stay, nothing is topped up, and I had to ask for basics like fresh towels. One staff member even tried to scam me with ridiculous pricing for a short ride back from dinner in Amed. Communication was very poor, and staff is often seen sitting on their phones. The property is very isolated. Don’t be fooled by the map, it takes almost two hours on foot to reach the center of Amed. A scooter is essential. On weekends, the atmosphere is ruined by loud music from neighbors behind the property and shouting from the nearby road and fishing boats. As a solo female traveler, I felt particularly uncomfortable here. The environment did not feel safe or welcoming, and I ended up sleeping with my terrace lights on just to see movement outside. Overall, this was my least favorite stay in Bali. I would not recommend it.
