I selected it because I wanted to snorkel directly to the Japanese ship wreck. That worked out, but also the beach to left and right to the accomodation are fantastic for snorkelling which a extensive coral reef (keep the tides in mind for even better experience) and and also the further way to that wreck. Small currents sometimes to deal with. Wreck is best in the morning from 6-8 at very low tide when there are no tourists (later, chase them and their guides away when they are standing on the corals of the wreck...). No Beach-sellers on the beach. Accomodation is very comfortable, I had one of the bigger bungalows for two nights. Free water in the room, air con which I turned off. Breakfast (included in my price) was fine, 2 options out of ten from a list, and a drink of choice included. Arranged driver for me from Bali airport (negotiated it down from 850.000 to 800.000 IDR. Arranged the pick-up to my next place 1,5 km away by the next place (while they first indicated that they will do it themselves for free because they indicated that my next place selecte belongs also to their family). Very friendly staff, clean room, room service if wished and helped me much with big luggage. Thinking about coming back ... .
A small issue: I will next time try to prevent bungalow 05, as it is the most western-sided one near to the next building. From that building there was in the evening some louder music (indonesian karaoke?) to hear, what the owners might not be able to influence.
But what they might be able to influence is the "free" view from that building through an upper window right into the bathroom of bungalow 05. This could be easily fixed, and I am sure that I am not the first one to hint on this "privacy issue".
Another small issue: sauces in plastic bottles served with food should be quickly picked up from the room, that they are not for longer outside the fridge of the kitchen (but you could do it until pick-up also into the fridge in your own room)

The location was fantastic. 7km from central Amed meaning it was far quieter.
The staff had a scooter here waiting for me when I arrived as I requested one upon booking and it’s a short scenic ride into town.
My bungalow was a few stairs from the beach with amazing snorkelling and I often had the beach to myself. The beach is also sandy and very clean.
The bungalow is spacious and provides all the essentials with outdoor furniture, indoor sofa, 2 desks, drinking water and coffee/tea making facilities. Laying out on the daybed looking at the views was wonderful.
The grounds were well maintained with many lush shady trees and smells of frangipani.
Onsite restaurant providing basic meals was handy with breakfast included.
Fast hot water in the shower and plenty of towels provided.
The stairs! So many stairs! Im older with arthritis so I really struggled but I just had to take my time.
A bit dated and not spotlessly clean but quite acceptable.
Wifi mostly worked but had times of being slow and disconnecting.
I found the bed very hard and uncomfortable but this is a personal preference.
Only provided 2 sleeping pillows but had a bolster and sofa pillows.

The view is amazing. And I really loved the easy access to the water and coral from my bungalow. The staff were super friendly and helpful and always polite. The room was large and had a lovely atmosphere and view. I loved the large balcony and the comfortable bamboo furniture on it where I spent a lot of time reading and enjoying the scenery. Fabulous sunrises too! The restaurant was very good. It wasn't open the day I arrived as they said they had no food which was odd. But when I finally tried it again I was impressed. Helpful staff helped me arrange a massage and a driver. Thank you to all, especially Bintang and Wayan and Nungah who were very kind and friendly.
The shower floor needs a good scrub to remove mould as does the bath. The place needs to be smartened up and made safer - staircase bannisters to room 50 were broken and had large rusty nails sticking out. Dangerous. The beach lounges and tables are very old, dirty and some need replacing. The fishing boats often run their engines to clean them out on the beach in front of the bungalows - well before 8 am. This wakes people up and the exhaust fumes are unpleasant.

The bungalows proximity to the beach, the sunrise view, and the simple but nice breakfast.
This was by far my least comfortable and least enjoyable stay in Bali. The only positive is the location; everything else was disappointing especially for the price you pay. I tried to take the negative reviews with a grain of salt as I always do, but I should've taken them to heart. I do not write bad reviews, and often overlook small details etc, but...
The staff were unfriendly, unhelpful, and at times dishonest. I had to change rooms from a sea-view bungalow to an obstructed view because of a major leak during a rainstorm and was poorly handled by staff. The bungalows are not cleaned during your stay, nothing is topped up, and I had to ask for basics like fresh towels. One staff member even tried to scam me with ridiculous pricing for a short ride back from dinner in Amed. Communication was very poor, and staff is often seen sitting on their phones.
The property is very isolated. Don’t be fooled by the map, it takes almost two hours on foot to reach the center of Amed. A scooter is essential. On weekends, the atmosphere is ruined by loud music from neighbors behind the property and shouting from the nearby road and fishing boats.
As a solo female traveler, I felt particularly uncomfortable here. The environment did not feel safe or welcoming, and I ended up sleeping with my terrace lights on just to see movement outside.
Overall, this was my least favorite stay in Bali. I would not recommend it.

Location and authentic Bali feel. Right on the beach with fantastic restaurants nearby
Could have been a bit cleaner and a room tidy would have been nice

The views are to die for. The staff were amazing. The rooms were charming. The food was very good and great value.
The rooms need some upkeep. They are older and it shows, but certainly unique and comfortable. The stairs can be a lot of work if you aren’t used to climbing lots at a time. It is far from the main area so getting around is hard and expensive.

We arrived at night after a 6 hour flight followed by a 4 hour drive by car to Amed and arrived in paradise. Putu, his son Bintang and the rest of the staff provided us with a whimsical environment in which to relax and be nurtured. Our bungalow was set high up overlooking the beach, surrounded by greenery and flowers. Each of the 5 bungalows are distanced from one another to provide privacy. The ocean view changed dramatically during our 3 day stay from stormy rain squalls and lightning through to calm blue skies and brilliant sunshine. Watching nature perform from the protection of our balcony was a real highlight. We enjoyed Putu’s massages and being able to enter the sea at the bottom of our staircase to snorkel with the abundant sea life. The black rice porridge for breakfast was a delicious option. All of the dishes we ate on offer were generous and tasty. The ocean can be loud and the bed was a firm clean futon. We will return again. Thank you for hosting us.🙏

Everything was great. You can work from here or use it as the perfect base for seeing the coastline. Amazing food nearby too. Straight onto the beach for a swim and then a beautiful fresh shower
There's not a lot to dislike. Maybe the rooster that Crows in the night, but you get that at every place in Bali. Shower didn't drain very well. Lighting could use a redesign (again like everywhere in Bali)

Amazing location
Air conditioner in room 5 didn’t work properly, after a couple of hours it would be blowing hot air, and with no ceiling fan it was very uncomfortable for sleeping or for even being in the room. Spoke to staff repeatedly but they couldn’t do anything, apparently the mechanic would come tomorrow but I was so uncomfortable we checked out early.

I had a wonderful stay at Stairway to Heaven Bungalows. The location is peaceful, the views are stunning, and the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The bungalow was comfortable and charming, perfect for a relaxing getaway. Would definitely come back!
The only downside was that the bathroom/toilet could have been a bit cleaner, but overall, it didn’t take away from a great experience.

The view was great, and it was situated right on the beach with excellent snorkeling opportunities. You can rent the snorkeling gear directly from the staff for 50k/day. They somehow give out lots of towels. Very quiet 📍. Friendly staff.
It's quite a distance from everything else, but great if you like tranquility. The bathroom shower isn't great. Everything is a bit run down. It would be much better if the property could do some upkeep. The staff didn't inform us that the snorkeling gear was a rental, but it was inexpensive anyway.

Absolutely gorgeous spot. Lovely coral and fish right outside our room (high tide is best). I even saw a turtle 🐢 Lovely food and service with genuine smiles. Great view. So lovely to hang on the beach morning and night. Just beautiful. Rooms are clean. My son's family had the room with the meditation cave which was pretty wild!
Slight smell of mould in bathroom and on pillows. Nothing that spoilt the stay though. Will be back..

We love the view from our room balcony, good snorkeling right in front of the room, plenty of coral and fish life,Japanese shipwreck in the next bay, breakfast while overlooking this beautiful bay, friendly staff, lack of crowds, laidback feel, the fishermen's prahus with outriggers and colourful sails.

This is the most fantastic location on a soft sandy empty beach. The staff were very helpful and provided a good breakfast each morning.
The room was fine and a good size but basic - the best thing was the terrace outside where you could gaze out to the ocean and be in the comfort of the shade.

We have stayed here many times and we love the snorkeling, sitting on the porch watching the sunrise and fishermen and moon on the water. The breakfasts are wonderful and the staff is so sweet and helpful.
The air conditioner has lost its ability to move air and was less effective now. Breakfasts are great, but the main meals are nothing special.

I gave staff a 10
Also a big 10 for the amazing view of the sea and sunrise.
A big 10 for convenient location for snorkeling !. Just do it right in front of your room and there's a beach. Come high tide and you have lots of fish just few feet from the beach!
However, I give the room that I got a 1- Amed is super hot and humid, and the aircon in our room cannot keep us cool enough because of major air leaks going on. I attached a picture to show big gaps on the sliding door, which is misaligned and make loud banging sounds when you touch it and when the wind blows, and yes it's windy. By heat and humidity category where I stayed while in Bali: Sanur- very hot, Ubud-hot and humid, Amed- super hot and humid.
Another score of 1 for the bathroom - no ventilation fan, and gets wet everywhere, and dirty. I attached a picture. Originally when I booked, I thought I'll get the bath with tub and spray. Instead, I got this bamboo pipe attached to the side of a mountain wall with sharp boulders. One misstep and you'll end where your soul is destined to go. At night, big ants in thousands come out and occupy the whole bathroom floor! Good thing I brought my eucalyptus spray and sprayed it on the bathroom door. It worked!
See what I already wrote below
Also, this place have steep stairs, hence the hotel name. For someone with mobility issues, give this a big pass

The view was amazing! Overlooking the sea. I also loved to hear the sound of the ocean at night. It is quiet there and barely heard noises from the village. The bathroom was clean and daily and housekeeping was a lovely bonus. Nice blossom trees around the bungalows.
We were given an additional small bed for our daughter (3 years old) and a mosquito net was attached for her. Very grateful for that as this meant that she didn’t have to sleep with us.
There is comfy bamboo furniture on the balcony and roll down shades to avoid the rising sun warming up the whole floor.
I compare the food from another property by the sale owner only 3 minutes drive away and the food, such as breakfast or lunch is unfortunately not the same quality.
The staff barely speaks any English so hard to get any additional information.
Note that there’s not much shade and no swimming pool to cool down. It can get hot in front at the balcony in the first part of the day. The sea there isn’t as calm as in other parts so snorkelling off the beach was not an option for us.
The beach had some rubbish scattered around following the latest high tide, including a dead chicken.

Clean sandy beach. Breakfast. Terrace with a view of the sunrise and the sea
This is a bamboo house, then of course you can hear the sea at night. But I love the noise of the sea.

This is one awesome piece of paradise. Your own spacious Bali Bungalow with sunrise watching terrace , right at the sea with reef inside. What else you may need? Yes! Very tasty food and the most friendly and welcoming staff ever. I so much recommend this place. Truly awesome.

Fantastic location, amazing accommodation right on the beach. Unbelievable sunrise! Staff were friendly and helpful. I loved my stay here.
Some rocks in the sea. I guess this is the reason no big resort has been built here, so not really a negative.

Secluded place with lots of privacy directly at the beach for snorkeling and relaxing. Good choices of breakfast and excellent staff. 100% recommended.
The bungalows are a bit older and the bathroom was always a bit moist due to the rain, but both did not bother us.

I love this place. I have stayed here 5 or 6 times. 5 bungalows set right along a quite private beach, nice verandas to sit on and watch the sunrise and moonrise. Great snorkeling right from the beach with easy access. Just a short swim to the "Japanese Wreck" just around the point.
