Superbly helpful staff. Delicious food and impeccable service from each and every member of the reception, waiting and bar teams. Huge, very comfortable bed and bedding. Nice armchair. Monsoon (but not power…) shower over a large bath. No shortage of hot water. Large fluffy towels.
Almost nothing. A little too cool in the rooms overnight and the cafetière coffee in the rooms and served in the dining room could certainly do with a big upgrade in quality. Otherwise it is pretty well near perfect!

Breakfasts were very good and also a good selection to choose from. Food in the evening was also excellent and staff / server was very friendly and efficient. It was great to have access to the castle grounds and we took up the offer of a discounted rate on the tour. Easy to get a bus into Harrogate for the day - stopped right outside the hotel.
It was difficult to get a parking space if you had been out in the car all day. Was okay after the evening visitors had left but meant residents had to move their cars later on.

We’ve been coming here for several years now usually as a one night stay when returning home. Convenient for major routes. Food is excellent.
It is clear that whilst the estate is up for sale, very little is being spent on upkeep so the place is starting to look a bit worn. I hope that any new owners are prepared to invest, it would be a shame to let it fade away
