The Pink House

Exceptional welcome and generosity from the hosts, from the moment we arrived until the moment we left. This really is a special place to stay, thanks particularly to the attentive and genuinely concerned couple who obviously take pride and great care in ensuring that their guests enjoy their stay. Breakfast was 1st class. The house itself has historical and literary ties, which I'll leave to future travellers to learn. Several antiques and curiosities decorate the shared areas. In the pretty garden you will encounter a small menagerie of well-tended pets, chickens and bees, which obviously think it's a fine place to stay and they are right about that.

It's an old building, so although the ensuite facilities are modern and bright, the bedroom (we had a double) is smaller than you would find in some hotel rooms of similar price. That was not an issue for a short stay, but maybe if you were there for a week you might want more space. In any case, a big drawing room is open for guests to sit in and relax.

Kirsten and Pete were excellent hosts, nothing was too much trouble. They went out of their way to make us welcome and were happy to spend time chatting to us, morning or night. They made two recomendations for evening meals. One, The Sportsman's Arms, near Pateley Bridge was exceptional.

Air con would have been good for the 30deg heat but we can't blame the hosts for that.

The hosts were absolutely lovely and are clearly trying extremely hard to make this experience as positive as possible for their guests. We were greeted on arrival with tea and scones and introduced to the hens while sitting in a lovely garden. They were really helpful with lots of local information and general chat.

We stayed in the Deluxe King room - there is something very important to know about this room. There is a partition wall between the bed and half of the bathroom. But there are door-sized gaps at either end, so effectively the toilet is in the bedroom. Whilst this may not bother some people, it may make others feel extremely uncomfortable. Although the room is lovely and the bed was very comfortable, we definitely would not have booked had we known about this.
