Lovely place to stay but breakfast standards have dropped in last couple of years.

Great location and we had a "feature" room with a nice view. V good restaurant and pub on-site. Room was nice but a little small. Breakfast was good.

Had to wait too long for breakfast, only one member of staff seem to be working and this delayed everything. Also the member of staff who was working seemed very uninterested in engaging with customers. check in process was also a little slow.

Was a bit disappointed but stayed in worse! I wouldn’t return.

It was an exceptional position for the cathedral where we were visiting. Evening meal was lovely and waiter very attentive, meal served hot and timely.

No onsite parking, had to go to Sainsbury’s and pay. Badly in need of some tlc, window frames were rotten. Breakfast took ages to arrive, asked three times for orange juice, waitress served hot dishes by pulling her jumper sleeves down, she also had a cough and was covering her mouth with hands and the aforementioned jumper. Food was just warm and bacon was dry, looked like it had been kept warm under a heat lamp and dried out.

Location is excellent. Staff very good and breakfast also good. Had a Sunday dinner which was also good.

The room is very tired and several bulbs missing or not working. There was an iron but no ironing board ! No water in room but on request staff did provide some.

Old fashioned paint coming off from all over. Wardrobe had bad smell inside. No toast offerd with breakfast and only one coffee which was cold by the time breakfast arrived.

The breakfast was fabulous and the location is great.

The bathroom was noisy due to a septic tank pump, the toilet seat was loose and the room was not cleaned or towels changed even though we left them in the bath after the first night of our two night stay.

Nice hotel let down by breakfast service

Nice room, very comfortable bed, very good location and nice pub / bar area

Breakfast service was unacceptable. Sat down in breakfast area at 9am with just 6 people in attendance so not really busy. ,Took our food order after ten minute wait and then waited another 50 minutes before food arrived even though two tables who sat down well after us were served before us. 15 people in the dining area by this time so again hardly busy. No apology for long wait and one of the food orders was wrong !

Location was great, breakfast was very good. Encounted two members of staff while staying, one who showed us to our room snd one who served us breakfast, both were very helpful and friendly.

Hot tap in bathroom did not work properly, you had to hold it before turning it on. Needs hangers, only 4 in wardrobe and they were useless. Curtains hanging off. Bad sleep due to green light on ceiling and red light on TV being diectly towards the bed. All of these could easily be put right if a little more effort was put in

Just a few niggles, so not altogether good

Nice location in a very nice city with lots to see and do, a nice bar and very good tasty food both in the bar and for breakfast. No noise from other residents so it was nice and peaceful

I paid for what i thought was a better room than the standard. It certainly cost more than could have paid. and was described as an executive room. The website said it had free wifi in all areas, but it dropped off halfway up the stairs. The tv was sometimes difficult to get switched on and working due to the large blue square over the screen saying it needed connecting to the WiFi, sometimes it was no bother but there weren't programme guides to see either. The room was definitely in need of an update as the paintwork was extremely scuffed in places. Bedside tables need to be next to the bed, not screwed the wall over an arms length away, where it proved difficult to reach anything without putting your feet out of the bed. The cold water tap was loose, and the toilet roll holder, a full toilet roll kept falling off. The shower would have benefited by having a shelf inside to hold your shampoos etc and z bath mat would have been appreciated greatly. We tried thd shower several times but could not get it warm apart from the last occasion before 7.00am. A light in thd lobby outside the bathroom didn't switch on most if the time just flashed on and off intermittently and when that happens at 4.00am it is not good. Other than that, it was nice, but the biggest moan was the enormous cobweb that stretched from the back of the wardrobe to the smoke alarm that had obviously been there some considerable time and overlooked

A lovely hotel with very good staff.

We really liked being in the centre of the beautiful town as we had a family reunion which was held close by. (However, see comment below.) The staff were so helpful, especially the young lady who served us breakfast. The breakfast selection was excellent. The room was cosy and very clean.

Just 2 minor things….My sister was in a room overlooking the cathedral and her sleep was disrupted by the clock striking every hour. She would have valued having ear plugs provided. We would have valued a non slip bath mat to be provided which is common in hotels now) I have osteoporosis and break my bones easily☹️). We were however dismayed to find parking was off site. We hadn’t realised that point when we booked. It was inconvenient to haul luggage backwards and forwards to Sainsburys as well as to have the worry of parking security. For this reason, sadly, we will not be booking at The Royal Oak again.

only problem No Car Park if you have Suitcases but 24 Hours in the local Car Park a 5 minute walk away is £ 2.60 for 24 hours

Incredible value for money

The Royal Oak is in a great location in the heart of Ripon. A short walk to the cathedral, restaurants and shops. Incredible value for money. Our room was lovely and we enjoyed a huge breakfast the next morning.

Sweet room above a pub with delicious breakfast!

The breakfast was top quality, one of the best we’ve had in our four weeks of travel in England! Everything else was fine.

The ventilation system for showering was not good, apparently it can set off the smoke alarm. We arrived in the late afternoon, and had it been warmer. We would’ve appreciated a fan, not sure if one is available.
