Took my mother for Mother’s Day stay. Location was excellent. Bedroom large & comfortable. The hotel is in a stunning building but some upkeep regards painting would be beneficial.

Amazing place, we have stayed in most hotels in Harrogate over the years and this is by far our favourite. We stayed in a Deluxe Room

I needed a single room near Harrogate station for a midweek task visiting a factory in a local village that was a short train ride away. Having never been to Harrogate before friends advised “don’t take a risk, say at a popular chain”. I would have followed this advice, except those chain hotels were mostly located in the North of the town, and I wanted to explore the centre during the one night I had free. I found the Hotel du Vin featured on most of the hotel selection sites, with quite a few deals around. I knew their standard was “smart but relaxed”, with a bias to good food and wine, having been for a meal in their Brighton hotel. I selected a basement room purely on the price of the deal. It would be dark when I arrived so it didn’t matter that I would be “underground”, I just needed a comfy bed and some breakfast. The hotel was a short walk from the station, just beyond the busier streets. It has been converted from a terrace of smart houses and looked, from the outside, like a private club. On entry I was confronted by a spacious warm ambience. The reception was at an “ordinary” and accessible desk to my left. Ahead were the spiral stairs and to the right, a pleasant lounge and bar. I immediately relaxed. This was going to be OK. The receptionist advised that to get to my room, I had to go back out of the hotel, walk along the terrace and then down some stairs, to find it. That information was a little off-putting, however it was easy to find and on entry via the discreet doorway I was presented with a large warmly decorated room with very pleasant side lighting, an absolutely huge bed with masses of pillows and cushions, a large TV at a comfortable viewing distance, a stand-alone bath in an alcove across the room from the bed and a separate room with basin, WC and a large shower space that would easily have been comfortable for two. “Gosh!” I thought, amongst other things. I took a short walk around town, there are several restaurants of varied quality around, however I thought it would be easier and quieter to use the Hotel du Vin’s own restaurant, which they call a Bistro. It’s a smart and reasonably priced restaurant. This proved to be an excellent choice. The menu has a medium range of dishes of various sizes to suite any appetite and also includes weekday specials. The menu includes wine suggestions to accompany the dishes. I accepted the recommendation and I could not have chosen better myself. The waitress service was polite and attentive without being looming. Perfect. Next day I went back to the restaurant area for breakfast. While there was a buffet for cereals and fruit, there was a waitress service for the inclusive cooked food. I was surprised at how quickly my “Full English” arrived (thinking that I needed to order it before my yoghurt and fruit – wrong). I also need to mention that this is the first hotel that had a “toast machine” that cooked perfectly at first go!! In summary, if you need to stay in the centre of Harrogate and you prefer a more “personal”, “club-like” hotel, try the Hotel du Vin. You are very unlikely to be disappointed. I’d happily go again.

Stayed before would highly recommend though this time in a basement noise above on first night led to a bad nights sleep so would next time revert to a room in the main hotel
