It was alright not really great place to stay.

The location was really good especially the view outside of the accommodation.

The cleanliness was not good enough. Toilets were very small and very inconvenient to use. Also the bed height was small I’m 6’1” and I couldn’t sleep properly because of the small size of the bed.

Loved that this yha had the option of 1 bunk bed in a room, so me and my friend had a room to ourself which was nice, staff were lovely and showers and toilets were clean

Just needs slightly updating for the interior. Could see wallpaper that had been half ripped off one wall and also could see paint in walls that they must of touched up but in the wrong colour .

We are looking forward to stay there again. Great location, good comfort, great staff.

The hostel is a great value for its price. We got a large and clean room with really comfortable beds. It was very warm in December. We didn't get a chance to use the bathroom but the shared toilets that we used were super clean. We enjoyed a great breakfast, watching the lake in the morning. The staff was very nice and helpful. We would definitely stay there again!

Great value, great location.

Amazing view over the lake, convenient walking distance location to Ambleside with Hill walking and mountaineering routes direct from the hostel. Fantastic kitchen facilities, well stocked bar and ample communal spaces.

Terribly uncomfortable beds in a cold, cramped room. The promised parking was not always available and we ended up having to park off the property and walk.

Relaxed, warm, friendly with stunning views of Lake Windermere from the comfort of our room and bed

The location was excellent looking right onto Lak3 Windermere. I have stopped here many times with family and will continue to. As I only live 30mins away it Is an excellent staycation for me and my family. The staff are always so warm and friendly.

We bought the travel toothpaste and brush. You can't open the toothpaste. So we couldn't use it. It used to have a little tube of colgate in it. But it was a different brand with no way of opening once you take the red lid off.

Perfect budget location for a stay in The Lakes

Great location, lovely atmosphere- very welcoming. Being right on the lake is amazing for a budget place.

Tricky tight stairs to climb if you stay on the top floor. Shower was very small, but manageable. We had a room for three, it was quite small- didn’t sleep the best, but very happy to be staying so central.

Lots of aspects are excellent - staff, aspect, etc. We like the freedom and support you offer.

The self catering kitchen was overcrowded at peak times. The kitchen seemed under equipped - saucepans, for example. Although as a self catering group of 20 we always bring 2 large saucepans for meals like curry, chilli and rice with a cooking rota and make good use of the main dining room. The hostel seemed to be at full capacity and closing off the 'conference' room, leaving it unused, meant that seating space was sometimes at a premium

Great stay at YHA Ambleside!

I had a wonderful experience staying at YHA Ambleside. The hostel is well-maintained, with very clean bathrooms and toilets, which made the stay comfortable. The rooms were spotless, and the bunk beds were sturdy and comfortable, perfect for a good night’s rest after exploring the Lake District. There’s also a bar and hotel attached to the property, which serves delicious food and a nice variety of drinks — a great spot to unwind in the evening while enjoying the lakeside views. Overall, YHA Ambleside offers excellent value for money with a friendly atmosphere, clean facilities, and great food options nearby. Would definitely stay here again!

Excellent value in Ambleside

Superb location right on the waters edge - and an easy half hour walk into the centre of Ambleside. Parking (though they only have limited spaces) is free which is an added bonus. Rooms and facilities - no complaints for the money. Clean and warm.

Breakfast is only available until 9am.

The hostel is situation just on the banks of the river so the view in the morning is spectacular. Staff was very friendly too. Great place will definitely be back!

Room was excellent, with a lake view, kitchen very clean, staff friendly and helpful, hostel great location fab walks on the doorstep

toilets near kitchen, the floor was wet and dirty and tissue on the floor all the time. Needs hand drying towels replacing and preferably one becoming female only as using a toilet after men who are careless and spray all the place is unpleasant for women!

Couldn't have wanted a better location!

The location is amazing right on the water front. The staffing met were lovely and helpful to help me get the most from my stay. There is a jetting for the main boat trips just next to the hostel as well as row boat and kayak hire. I was lucky to have a view of lake windermere from my window. They self catering kitchen is terrific and everyone seems to take care of it very well indeed.

The mattresses are plastic covered, for good and practical reasons, but the cotton sheets squeak on them a bit when I turn over which disturbed my sleep a bit. Maybe they can look into a different option moving forward. There are good waterproof and washable options that don't squeak.

This was a brilliant property and staff was amazing. Have never stayed before in a hostel and would certainly do this again. It was a brilliant location and really enjoyed this experience
