Great location over looking the common -easy walking. Within easy reach of Stroud. There is a bus service outside the hotel but we didn’t have cause to use it so can’t comment.
The staff were friendly and welcoming. The room was great - clean, comfortable and good facilities.
The venue is well-presented and appealing to a variety of visitors. Near a road but didn’t hear any traffic.
Great breakfast choice including plant-based full breakfast.
There is electric vehicle charging available - didn’t have cause to use it so can’t comment but it’s there.
Nothing to dislike.

We were given a lovely, comfortable room with great views across the valley.

Nice comfortable room and surroundings
Food was overpriced for the quality and adding a service charge without prior notice is not the way
Room although old in years needs more 3 pin sockets

The warm feeling of the hotel was exactly what we needed for a winter break. The hotel is beautiful and the cleanliness was perfect!
There is nothing I did not like about the property, however a small comment is to be made regarding corrections during dining. The food was delicious and the service was high standard!! However, an intolerance to onion and garlic was mentioned when booking a dinner reservation and was repeated during the order of food however, there was still onion in the salad. This is the only concern.

I have arthritis so was limping up to the reception, the lady behind reception pointed out that my room had a shower over the bath. She kindly upgraded me to a room with a shower room. I was very pleased with that.
The breakfast is superb, quick well cooked and great surroundings.
I ate form the bar menus each night - beef cheeks (superb) - best fish and chips for ages.
All staff high level of competence and skills.
Parking and signage from parking for new guests was confusing and difficult to get back and forth to.

Clean, everything you needed.
Walk in shower instead of bath shower.

Food was overall very nice yet pricey. Liked the freshly cooked breakfast. Beds were very comfy.
Nigh noise caused by some deliveries to the premises. At second night this caused serious sleep disruption between 4.30 and 5.30am with constant door banging and dropping very heavy items below my room. When I addressed it with reception asking if next time should have room away from this noise, would have wished they’d offered a tiny gesture for a very short time of sleep.

The staff were lovely and the hotel was gorgeous
The location is quite remote and the layout of the hotel is quite confusing, it’s easy to get lost looking for reception etc

Only reason we chose to stay there was because it had an electric car charger which didn't work !

The evening meal in the restaurant was first class, staff throughout the hotel we friendly and attentive , beautiful ambience and atmosphere in the bar area.
Beautiful views from our room.
Bed was a little on the firm side.

All staff helpful, friendly yet professional. Cosy room, clean, good towels and toiletries. Great breakfast and location.
Climbing 3 flights of stairs to our roo. Next time I will ask to be allocated a room on a lower floor. The positive about a room on the 3rd floor is that the view is spectacular.

Characterful building with cosy public rooms and a great location on the common. Very friendly, helpful staff. Great views.
The bathroom was a little dated - in particular the taps and the combined bathtub/shower - which was surprising compared to the rest of the furnishings.

Room was clean and comfortable, a quiet aspect. Toiletries were Molton Brown, lots of hot water for a bath and plenty of towels. Breakfast was very good, a varied menu of both hot and cold plates and good service.
The one gripe was check in, we waited a good 10 mins for the lady on reception to check in. She was busy showing other guests around the hotel. Had hoped another member of staff could have stepped in but unfortunately not.

Comfortable bed and spacious room. Dog friendly room. Staff in the bar were friendly. We were in The Summerhouse, which is a short walk from the main building.
This hotel is a large hotel, so it lacks the intimacy of a smaller hotel. We stayed at The Close earlier in the week, which is part of the same group of hotels but much smaller. The breakfast at The Close was of a higher standard and choice, which I assume is down to the fact it is smaller. The breakfast at The Bear was disappointing. Always difficult when you are catering to more people.

Food was nice , but service a bit slow at breakfast toast delivered warm with no butter by the time we received butter toast was cold , dinner service was ok food good

The staff were so friendly, great breakfast, nice touch with shortbread in the room. Dog friendly, do provide dog bed and bowl. Love the cosy aesthetic of the bar and restaurant with log fires and timber frame etc.
I don’t think a room on the ground floor with the main large window facing the carpark should be priced even at the discounted rate I paid with genius booking.com of £167 (this was excluding the dog occupancy charge) We had to have the curtains permanently drawn as felt like we were in a fishbowl. I get dogs should be on the ground floor, absolutely, but I would expect this price for a room with a better view and more privacy. I would have also expected a larger en-suite.

Very nice hotel with great facilities. Breakfast was great and dinner was a bit expensive. The staff was very friendly - let us store our luggage and gave us a lot of help with facilities.
The location is not great for people without cars.

The noisy doors kept us awake. Also the fires were coal burning which is bad for asthma sufferers.

Comfortable rooms. Beautiful, peaceful location with gorgeous views.
Terrible coffee--filthy stuff, really. Cooked breakfast wasn't very good. My vegetarian option came with ham in it. Annoying staff. Fire alarm went off at 5:30 in the morning and rang for about twenty minutes.
