The price is good, position good
I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but this was not a positive stay. At check-in there was a woman who knew little or nothing and spent all her time watching her TV series. She also slept in the dormitory and kept watching her shows, and wanted to keep the air conditioning on in the room. I asked if they could refund the second night, even partially, and she said no. I tried to contact the property, but they never replied. The hostel was almost empty.

A bit outdated. Beds were very uncomfortable. Had cockroaches in our room. Could do without these weird rubber mats on the floors

The hostel is located in the main tourist street, but anyway San Ignacio is very small (and is also the only safe, at least during the day, place in Belize mainland). The hostel is fairly clean. There is no kitchen, just a fridge. Beds have big lockers underneath and all have privacy curtains. The hotelier was responsive to the messages on booking.com app prior to my arrival, which is very important for the organization of the stay: there is nothing to see in San Ignacio itself, you have to use this town as a base to explore the temples in the area, some of which can be visited also on you own, while for some others you need a tour (the hostel provides several of them, which have to be booked ahead). Bear in mind that no tours go to El Pilar as it is just way too risky for attacks, while the situation has improved for Caracol, for which no more armed car escorts tourist vans along the road like it was until the near past (of course the temple is still full of soldiers and the road is patrolled). Xunantunich can be reached by public bus (2,50$ each way) and you can go to Cahal Pech just on foot. I really discourage you from choosing the Tikal tour as it is much better to do it from Guatemala: you will spend much less money and you will spend much more time at the venue, which is really huge so you definitely need to stay there longer. The hostel sells also a tourist minibus to Flores, but you may use also the public transport (which is much cheaper, just know that in Guatemala you must take the public bus, which is right beyond the bridge after you exit the border control, and NEVER EVER take a taxi (it is paramount for your safety).
Let’s underline the big problem: tour prices. The hostel will give you a discount with their friend tour company, but still the prices are simply crazy. They really take advantage of tourists! You spend a lot of money, but you won’t enjoy if you are not smart. ATM can be visited only with tours and it is super disappointing that you cannot take pics freely for fake reasons (the guide will tell you some lies, while the real reason is just some stupid politically correct nonsense and therefore you must take pics discreetly without what were supposed to be fellow tourists to become nasty snitches claiming their pretentious moral superiority or simply asking to do the same). I've been creating my props from scratch (for example out of a bra) when such things were not yet available on cheap Chinese e-commerce websites like now. I’m an OG, so don’t envy me just respect me. ;)

Clean and had everything required. Near to good food was a bonus. Best thing was the staff and Javier is a genius and just great human being and nothing was too much trouble for him.
Only staying one night…should have stayed at least two!

Kitchen was lovely, hammocks everywhere, comfortable beds, plenty of rooms.
It was SO COLD, be warned they have a remote for the AC at reception so you can turn it down during the night. I literally couldn’t sleep, I felt I was in the North Pole in an ice age!

Nice chilled environment, dorm rooms were clean. Close to main street & easy to explore the surrounding areas on foot.
The bin in toilet could have been emptied daily but I am certain that if I asked the staff would have had obliged

The guy working there is 11/10 - taught me Spanish, told me how to get to Flores by taxi + local bus + tuktuk, taxi 8Belizean dollars + bus 60 ketsalas + 10 ketsalas for tuktuk, a lot better and cheaper way than to take the tourist bus

Nice little hostel with private rooms. Rooms were decent size and had good aircon and WiFi. Free water and good kitchen was very helpful, location was good to the main town. Staff were lovely and helpful.
The sound proofing is awful here and so you can always hear people talking etc. The hammocks in the shared area squeak when someone rocks in them, which is the most irritating sound ever and people would be in them until the early hours while we were trying to sleep. Staff were great but a little distant, we needed washing done but couldn’t find anyone.

The A/C in the room worked very well. The place was quiet and had a nice outdoor seating area. The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and welcoming.
There was not much air circulation in the common area because they only had windows on one side. The pillows and beds were not comfortable - hard, not much cushion. The women's showers did not drain well. (The men's did.)

Good location. Pretty garden with lots of plants and fairy lights. The common area could be made a little more comfortable. Javier was very friendly, had a lot of work to do and kept everything clean. The hostel can also arrange tours. There is free filtered water.

Javier is the best! He was very helpful with booking tours, or providing any kind of information. He made my stay very pleasant for a solo traveller. I did like the outdoor area, it would be cool if they could have a bar there.
The showers were a bit too cold for me.

Javier was a great host. He would always have a smile, helpful, talkative, friendly and mostly accommodating. You couldn't ask for a nicer guy. He hailed me a cab as I knew no Spanish, arranged for my outings. Knew the area both in Belize and Guatemala. Highly recommend this hostel entirely for the service and care demonstrated. Great job Javier.

Let's say it straight, the property may not be the best you will see on your trip, but Javier Pereira, the manager, made it all! Service and kindness second to none, always ready to help, knowledgeable of all things around and able to do some magic on top of having an historical culture to give any of your Mayan questions answers.
If it wasn't for him I would probably not have left a review but the man deserves distinction. From a fellow hospitality worker I know it's a tough world, stay passionate as you are, thank you!

Hotel staff were amazing - this was probably my best experience with hostel staff of all the hostels I've stayed at as everyone was very friendly and helpful. Location is pretty convenient and the value for price was pretty spot on.
I don't think the hostel was well set up for meeting people - the common area indoors is a bit sterile and not set up for hanging out, while the outside is nice but also not really maintained for guest interaction.

Javier, the manager, is a real asset to this place. He helped me immensely. He knows all about the area--including Guatemala. Even when there r large tour groups, he will take the time to answer your questions....even late into the night when there are many people. Super client services!
The air-con works so well, youll be asking staff to make the temp a lttle warmer.

Good location. Close to food, drinks, ATM's, taxis,, busses, market, and shopping. Cahal Pech Mayan ruins is a bit of a walk but doable (10bz entry) and you can stop by the Iguana Reserve on the way back (25bz I think it was). Very nice courtyard. Spacious bunk room and community area. Staff was very friendly.
Wifi was horrible and slow. Kitchen has no refrigerator. A hostel that sleeps that many should have a full size refrigerator. Noisy due to every sound echoing. Thin walls and can hear snoring from room next door and their conversation at 3am. Concrete in shower floors and doesn't drain well. Water temp after reaching way up to turn main water on was pleasant once you recover from the blast of cold water. Would not stay here again. This is the first time I've left a negative review.

Very clean, good WIFI, and great location. The manager Javier is very friendly, and was fun to chat with.
The hot water didn't work in my private room. Javier attempted to fix during my stay, but ultimately it didn't get fixed before I left. Used dorm shower, which was OK. If using dorm facilities, room should be discounted accordingly.

Good location and nice to have access to a small kitchen. We had a new mattress which was nice.
The wifi was hit and miss and all rooms open onto the common area so it can be really loud!!

location is excellent.
Was given a whole dorm to myself.
Appears to have lots of groups of guided tourists.
I found staff a little odd - very helpful one minute and then quite strange the next.

Booking initially approved but then cancelled via email the night before I was due to stay. However, I was traveling all morning the day of my stay in San Ignacio so did not have internet so didn't see the email. Turned up to find the place closed and had to waste a lot of the afternoon looking for somewhere else to stay. Could have at least sent a WhatsApp or text to check I'd seen the email.
