Breakfast was 0830 until 1030. This did not suit our timescale for leaving for work. I would have thought 7am on a weekday would be more acceptable

Stay away from the Monarch, too many "good" results - actually rundown budget hotel

Staff were generally friendly, but friendly doesn't make up for other issues.

Location description is poor. Yes you are almost on the beach but the CBD is about a mile away to walk. Tram which is 5 minutes away and around 15 minutes apart cost €3 for the one stop in the cbd. Avertised for £398 with the option to pay in pound, was charged £408.05 instead. I may have misread that a mobile deal includes breakfast, I also asked when booking in and answer was yes. Breakfast was excellent the first morning with large variety of food, fruit and pastries. The next morning the boiling water for the tea was cold, the breakfast shrunk in variety and size, pastries were cut to bite size (maybe cut from left overs in plates of guests, who knows?) Passage to the room 16 had 3 downlighters in the roof, only one working! The room and bedding was clean, however I got bitten by an insect. The mattrasses are worn and needs replacement! The bathroom basin was blocked an running very slow and even after reported not fixed. Bed lamps broken and other broken lamps stored in the room. ÙThe steep stairs in and out of the building has no hand rail, quite difficult and dangerous for older people. After having checked out, I got a phone call from one of the friendly staff now being seriously abrupt demand €200 for breakfast. Surely this should have been clarified when booking in as this hotel demands full payments in advance or on arrival for your full stay. After argument I decided to pay the €200 although I think the budget breakfasts after the first day was not worth the price and if I knew it was not included I could have done breakfast outside the hotel. The owner agreed to reduce the bill with €15 to cover the £10.05 overcharge, but when the amount went through the bank, the full €200 was charged. When I queried this, the abrupt person Issa who called me initially said that he will send me a €15 voucher to use in their bar.

The location was great, with the beach just around the corner. The room was modern and clean. The service and staff were very friendly. The breakfast was super. This is a boutique hotel where you feel well taken care of.

Comfortable stay close to beach & city

Really close to the beach & few minutes walk to city centre. Breakfast with local products, fresh cooked eggs & pancakes. Comfortable beds, no noise from outside (room at back of hotel)

We got a room where shower window was facing the bed so you can see everything. We were 2 friends travelling so asked for another room and the staff arranged it, so all good in the end 😊 Airco wasn’t working during our stay.

Not bad stay, but hotel has some shortcomings

In general, it wasn't bad stay - but for 4 stars hotel you except more, especially that I faced some difficulties during my stay. What I like is generally the hotel location, breakfast was great (but no hot meals except eggs) and cleanliness of room. Hotel was quiet so I can rest after work.

During my stay I faced two main difficulties: Bad smell from toilet. On first day, after flushing the toilet the bad smell was coming out from it and spreading across the room. I reported issue to reception - they come and check and agree with me. Later on, manager come and say that this is normal and tomorrow smell will go away. Indeed - it went away, but this shouldn't happen in 4 stars hotel. Second difficulty I came across is AC - or either lack of it in room. In my opinion room doesn't have AC - there is only a heater installed on wall with fan function, but temperature of air coming from it wasn't enough to cool down room temperature even by 0.5'C! It was a warm week, and I needed to deal with 24-25'C of room temperature without possibility to cool it down.

A sense of respect and enjoyment, making us feel like real guests.

The owner and staff of this hotel embody the idea of hospitality, they are welcoming, polite, sense of humour and extremely helpful. We were invited to have some Champaigne on the evening of Sylvester, the breakfast was extraordinary and again the owners and staff were 'at our service'.

There is nothing not to like. It was a superb experience. The hotel has been recently renovated and refurbished with dedication and love for historic detail. People with a disability may have problems navigating the entrance stairs and various steps, but this is unavoidable in an old mansion such as this.

Parking issues in the city as the hotel parking was full, not so nice view to the internal courtyard, overpriced (we booked last minute, in peak season). Normal price offers great value for money.

The hotel is very well located. 1 block away from the beach. They provide beach towels upon request and they also can deliver breakfast to the room if you want to. Definitely nice to stay and explore around the beach boulevard.
