The Tunjung Ubud Retreat

The location of Tunjung Ubud Retreat is superb! It is right in the center of Ubud, so if you plan to visit Ubud Palace, Saraswati Water Palace, Ubud Art Market, watch the Kecak dance, or try nearby restaurants, this is a very convenient place to stay. Despite being in a busy area, the retreat itself is surprisingly quiet and relaxing. Our room was spacious, there are two pools, and the staff were always polite and accommodating. They offered to clean our room every day, which we really appreciated. Breakfast, laundry, and spa services were also reasonably priced. For the price and quality of the amenities, we were very happy with our stay.

Just something to be aware of: the road along Ubud Art Market is closed to cars during certain hours (I believe around 9 AM–9 PM). We arrived around 1 PM, so our car could not go directly to the property and my husband had to carry/drag our four suitcases along the rocky road, which was quite tiring. There is also no lift, as this is more of a traditional retreat-style property. Also, if you plan to visit places outside central Ubud, I highly recommend leaving very early in the morning. Traffic around Ubud can get really crazy from around 9 AM onward, so an early start will save you a lot of time and make your day much more enjoyable. These were not major problems for us, but they are definitely worth knowing when planning your stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our five night stay. We were in a villa overlooking the jungle. It was very peaceful and well located. All the staff were welcoming and polite the whole time we stayed. The room was spacious and comfortable. Also took advantage of spa which was convenient and heavenly.

Some sections were a little dated but didn't bother us.

The location was amazing, in a very walkable Arwa close to shops and the market. The staff were friendly and willing to help with anything we needed.

The rooms weren’t as clean as they could have been; I had to go and ask for new sheets because mine appeared dirty. There was no ventilation in the bathroom and you could see mildew in the bathroom area. I had to ask for my room to be cleaned and go and get toilet paper as my room wasn't stocked.
