The room was spacious and comfortable. The house was well kept. Bed was comfortable and the night was quiet.
I actually left my dirty shirt on the floor when we left. I called when I realized and when I came to pick it up, they had also washed it for me. That was a nice perk.
The staff was friendly and breakfast was delicious. Check in and out was smooth
The parking. The street no longer has parking on it. The parking lot at the back of the house is tight. I drive a pickup truck and it was a challenge to get into a spot without blocking other vehicles in. We arrived when it was dark already, which made it more challenging. I dont remember hearing about this before we arrived, but our welcome letter mentioned it.
Also, the city had closed the road in front of the house for some construction. One direction is completely blocked off, the other says local traffic only. They are also storing their machines on the road. Arriving was difficult.
None of this is really the fault of the bed and breakfast, but it definitely made our arrival off putting

Breakfast …. Very hearty and made to order. We were trying to catch the ferry and the chef accommodated our time frame, and we were able to get to the ferry terminal with time to spare. The mini kitchen on the ground floor was adequate for making tea. Hostess and staff were very friendly and warm.
Our room was situated right next to the staircase, and we can hear guests coming and going, but it quieted prettty quick. The living room that is available to all guests was very nice, although a bit dark to read in. The whole B&B was very clean, spotless!!
Nothing.

This is a charming place to stay, and a great value! It's only a couple of blocks from Parliament and the harbor. The breakfasts are absolutely delicious, with multiple options to choose from. Our room was comfortable, clean, and had nice little touches for the holiday season. The staff were very friendly, as well.
I really don't think there was anything that I didn’t like. I highly recommend Marketta's!

This is boutique and has an old world feel which was lovely. The breakfast was wonderful. I enjoyed the fireplace and the jacuzzi as well.
The steps are tough for those with limited mobility.

We booked a few nights at this very well priced Edwardian era B&B home in James Bay for several reasons.
We had arrived in Victoria on public transit and needed to be walking distance from places to visit. Location is only a few minutes walk from the harbor and downtown attractions and is on a safe quiet tree lined street. We enjoy staying in more esoteric accommodation and the quaint old James Bay houses are disappearing quickly. Enjoy them while you can. We’ll all be stuck in overpriced sterile chain hotels pretty soon. Marketas home hasn’t been altered too much from the original layout so it feels worlds away from the usual modern hotels.
The B&B was clean, friendly and cozy, with interesting original art. We chose a lighter continental breakfast but heavier options are available. Marketa has a little snug area for you to make a cup of tea or coffee or heat something in the microwave. We had a shared bathroom which was clean with lots of hot water and towels and products supplied. Wifi was good. It was pouring like crazy but we were warm with extra quilts. Maybe bring a raincoat and dry footwear when you come to Victoria in winter.
I grade my stays by how I feel by the time I leave and if I would return. Sometimes a pricey multi star hotel leaves you feeling drained and grouchy even if the amenities are better. You can’t beat a good homestay experience with a thoughtful host when you’re travelling.
No complaints at all.

The property had a beautiful historic character with a very charming and cozy atmosphere. The location was excellent and made it easy to explore the city on foot. The room was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully decorated.
there were some noises, especially at night, which affected sleep a bit.

We stayed here for our honeymoon and everything about this place was absolutely magical. The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, and full of charm, it truly feels like a fairytale. Jurelle was incredible and went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable, special, and memorable. The owner and everyone involved were so kind, welcoming, and attentive, it genuinely felt like home. Every little detail was thoughtfully taken care of, which made our honeymoon even more meaningfu
Honestly, nothing at all. Our experience was perfect from start to finish.

Staff and host were congenial and went out of their way to help guests. The facilities were sparkling. Breakfast was great. You could tell it was great by all the regulars. Fun chats at breakfast/\.

Location excellent, staff were lovely, very clean and bonus to have access to kitchen to store small grocery items.
‘Upgraded’ to a basement room which was very clean but bad musty smell that could not be aired out. Recommend not staying in a basement if you can help it. Furniture is awkward and too large for the room size making it hard to get around in the room and use the space (ie instead of a lounge chair crammed in the corner, a small chair that can pull up to the table / console to sit at, but also tuck away under the table when not in use would be better).

Loved the breakfast and the bed was quite comfortable
It has a stale smell in the rooms and no exhaust fans in the bathroom.
Noise from upstairs rooms is bothersome
There was construction going on in the area so lane closure caused lots of parking issues
Also there were no smart tv in the room.
Provided wifi had no internet so basically no coverage for the whole trip.
Extremely less charging spots in the room

Our room was #4… right beside the kitchen and a bathroom floor other rooms on the main floor. I woke up every time someone else went to the washroom. Then I woke up early with noises from the kitchen.

I simply loved Marketa's B&B! The staff was so kind, the food was excellent and the old-style house was lovely.
The sound travels a lot in the house and I could hear someone snoring upstairs lol.

Breakfast was daily prepared and delicious. They had gluten free buns for the eggs benny which escalated the experience.
We had a very cozy and comfortable stay. We stayed one of the shared bathroom rooms. We did not have any problem with it. It was all clean which was a plus for us too.

Loved how comfortable the staff made you feel. Very welcoming. It was so clean and they let us in a little early on a very blustery day.
Loved everything only blip was we got home from our function and someone had tripped the breaker so we had not enough heat in our room,no lamps or plugs to charge our phones and hearing aids. In the morning the staff was there and we were able to get it fixed right away.

Location was great, short walk from downtown Victoria, easy access to shops and restaurants. Staff were very friendly. I think we had the only room with a full private washroom which was nice.
We didn’t realize a public washroom would be right outside our room, we are light sleepers and found ourselves awake in the night when other patrons had to use the facilities. Our bed was also very hard, and with everything in the building being original or close-to, there were creaks with every step you took. Parking was not ideal as we had a large SUV rental and couldn’t fit in the lot, so we had to park across the street in “Residents Only” parking, risking a ticket.

That staff was great and the breakfast was really good. We enjoyed everything quite a bit. Marketa was helpful with information on getting around. And helped with our suitcases by bringing them upstairs.
The only hard part was the stairs were steep and difficult with suitcases. Otherwise, it was a great place and we really enjoyed our time in Victoria.

The building, house, has retained its original build charm. The rooms are very comfortable and quiet with nice surrounding gardens. Rooms and common areas are very clean, neat, welcoming and comforting. The staff are charming and friendly even more than accommodating, anticipating our needs, eg directions, taxis, travel times, real fast choices.
Easy Walking distance along quiet streets to the Empress hotel and harbour.
Breakfast was wonderful.
This B&B embodies the spirit, charm, proprietor friendliness and delightful guests that has led my wife and I to prefer staying at B&Bs for 40 years.
To have stayed longer in here in Victoria

The location and friendliness of Marketa's staff. They were very welcoming.
Breakfast was plentiful and delicious.l
We had a room with ensuite which need a nightlight in the unsuited. Also the door to it was a cheap concertina door, which disturbed partners during the night when opening and closing. This is easily solvable by installing a quality bi-fold.

The breakfast was amazing! The staff equally awesome and so careful about the allergies and food sensitivities in my party! The hostess and staff greeted us warmly at made us feel at home at every single turn. My only suggestion would be to consider replacing the small couch in the front bedroom to accommodate a third person not wanting to sleep in the double, but I made it work. Still we were very comfortable with the current arrangement. The location ws great for us - out of the hustle and bustle of the main streets, but an easy walk to popular downtown destinations and restaurants, etc.
That we had to check out, lol. Seriously though, my only suggestion is mentioned above

The house is well maintained, excellent breakfast, nice rooms, comfortable beds!!! Make sure you pick the room with your own bathroom, not shared.
Some rooms don’t have the bathrooms, you have to use the shared one…

The location is great. The staff are kind and helpful.
When I arrived there was a guest in the hallway with a wet, constant cough and trouble breathing. She was in the room across from me and our bathroom was shared. I could hear her cough day and night. The room I reserved was a "queen" but I got a double. There was no air conditioning and I happened to be there on one of the hottest days of the year. And, I was overcharged. The amount that booking.com quoted was $153 (I printed the confirmation) and I was charged $10 more. Several emails were exchanged and nothing was resolved.

Marketa’s was a great stay in Victoria! Fantastic location, short walk to fisherman’s wharf and to the harbour. The room was nice and clean. The staff were so friendly and the breakfast in the morning was 10/10. Would definitely stay here again if we ever return to Victoria.
The rooms are in old house so it could have the potential to be loud depending on your neighbors. We didn’t have any issues but something to keep in mind.
