It has an amazing location with a lot of good restaurants nearby. The hotel is old, however, it has its charm and you know that it is a historic site in advance. The staff is great.
It is not possible to regulate the temperature of the room. We never suffered from the cold temperatures, but it might be important for some travelers.

A classic. Friendly staff. Clean rooms. Fab location. It's an institution...

We both had the Jogger’s breakfast. I’m celiac so I chose it because it had a GF marking. However when I asked, the potatoes were fried in the same oil as other things that contained wheat. So…not for celiacs. They substituted Gf toast for me. The rest of the breakfast hit the spot.
Same as the above comment. We had dinner at the hotel the night before and the GF marking was more gluten friendly than Gluten free. Celiacs be warned!
The room was large and comfortable. We did notice a little stain on the carpet, maybe from an animal that had stayed there.

Staff, coziness, food, and most of all, location. I’ve come here for 5 decades, and will continue to do so for as long as I’m able. English Bay and the West End are stars of the city. And the Sylvia is chef’s kiss.

The location is amazing, such a beautiful spot on English Bay and accessible to both downtown city locations and the woods of Stanley Park.
The room was in an old addition to the main building, the bathroom hasn't been updated in a number of years and on the last morning of our stay the water came out of the taps brown. The staff seemed confused when we told them about the problem at check-out. The base price was average, but still expensive and it's $25/day for parking, the additional fees added up and the final bill was $750 for two nights, which did not feel good.

Great location next to the Laughing Buddhas. The edge of Stanley Park and at the corner of Denman and Davie, couldn't be a better location in Vancouver. The history of the hotel on the walls is especially endearing. Love the the lounge.

Located directly opposite English Bay beach, the hotel has luggage storage and business meeting facilites. The staff were helpful and accommodating with local recommendations and access to facilities. Highly recommend whether solo travelling for work, or with family or friends on vacation.

The location overlooking Inglish Bay was really nice. We ate at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast, and both were excellent. We stay in Vancouver a fair bit and it was nice to have the peace and quiet of minimal ambulances and fire trucks. Walking along the ocean is always a treat and so close to the little ferry's really works for us. Staff were the highlight for us as they ALL tried hard to make our stay the best it could be. Thanks.
Parking is a little bit of a problem if you are driving a full-size pickup as the overhead is tight and the stalls are minimal. The fact that we stayed in November the room really worked out however not having air conditioning for the warmer months might be a bit of a challenge.

The location was about the only thing.
We arrived in Vancouver to start our honeymoon and after traveling all day, we were woken up at midnight to loud pounding and hammering sounds. By 1:30 AM we had enough and my husband went downstairs, he was told they were doing tile repair in the kitchen which was just below our room. Who does that in the middle of the night?? Horrible experience.

Great customer service and a lovely hotel! I stayed here a long time ago, and wanted to revisit!
My room was all the way back in the rear of the hotel, which should have been fine if it were cheaper. It was still nice, next time I’ll book directly.

Amazing location, staff were friendly and helpful.
Too expensive, the hotel was fine but not sure how they can justify 5 star hotel prices.

The room was very spacious, and, considering it was a room with city view, it was quiet at night (we had the windows closed). The bed was very comfortable, so were the pillows. We appreciated having the mosquito screens, so the windows could stay open during the daytime. The staff were very friendly, and we enjoyed the charm of the building. Lots of dining options in the neighbourhood, such as Vietnamese and Persian. Great area for walking.
We were not so inspired by the ambience in the breakfast area. It felt a bit sleepy, and there seemed to be only one waiter. We anticipated a long wait, so we went out for breakfast (Delany's).
