Comfortable stay in a quiet but convenient location

Fabulous location and friendly host. Room was spotless and comfortable. Added bonus was a mini fridge, ideal for longer stays and chilled drinks on a hot day. Perfect dog friendly room with direct access to the garden and great walks from the door. Will definitely stay again.

Excellent and Enjoyable

The hosts went above and beyond and couldn't do enough for you. I did a Parkrun on the Saturday morning so couldn't make breakast so Lisa left me a breakfast in the mine which was lovely. Room was clean, warm and even had hot chocolate!

A relaxing, comfortable and quiet stay, with a good breakfast to start the day.

The property was ideally situated for us, it was a beautiful looking place. The room we had was comfortable and the lounge was next door. We had a lovely warm welcome and breakfast was great with a good variety. The jams on offer were lovely and homemade. It was quiet and Lisa made sure we were looked after. Thank you

A wonderful place to stay in Torquay!

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at The Charterhouse. Our room was very comfortable, well-equipped and spotlessly clean. The garden is beautiful and there is ample parking. We also enjoyed befriending the cat! The most outstanding feature of our stay was the hospitality of Lisa and Christophe. Lisa made us feel so at home the whole time. Nothing was too much trouble and we thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her over breakfast. Christophe prepared the most delicious vegan breakfasts for us each morning. I’m still thinking about his wild mushrooms on toast! Lisa also kept us topped up with oat milk and Nakd bars in our room. We can’t wait to return!

We had a very pleasant stay.

The location was good for what we wanted to explore. The landlady was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was delicious and plentiful. The house and gardens are beautiful. We chose the location because of its proximity to the train station.

We were sad to leave

I loved everything, from the moment of booking, until we left. My 8-year-old daughter and I were met with a warm welcome by Lisa. My daughter is really anxious and barely talks to strangers. Lisa had her speaking in French in as little as 3 minutes. Honestly, Lisa is so welcoming it just puts you at ease that fast. We were shown to our room, it was beautiful 😍 and clean. All the amenities and more. We gave Lisa our preferred time for breakfast for the next morning, we messaged our choices over later on that day. After a wonderful, peaceful, and cosy nights sleep, we headed down for breakfast. Beautiful breakfast room with a selection of cereals and juices. Lisa greeted us both. That's what really stood out to me. Lisa remembered my daughters name and engaged in conversation with her. This is the main reason I'm writing this review. I watched Lisa engage with everyone in the room, both adult and child, so welcoming and genuine. It was really lovely 😍 to see. Our breakfasts on both mornings were fantastic. We had the cooked breakfast the first morning, and pastries on the second. The cooked breakfast is filling and hot. Cooked to perfection 👌. The pastries were lovely and went down a treat with my little Miss. The entire break away was made so much better by staying here and not in a generic hotel. I can't recommend this place enough. We will definitely be returning next summer. Maddi might even have some new French words to share. Thank you so much for having us. Kelé and Maddi xxx

Can’t fault anything about my stay at The Charterhouse. The place is STUNNING! Clean rooms, amazing hospitality, comfy beds, unreal breakfast. Location and parking were also great!

Lisa was so friendly from first communication right through to the end of our stay. It is in a fabulous location, perfect if driving or travelling by train. My daughter and I felt very safe and cared for. Excellent breakfast and beautifully presented rooms. Homemade jams and locally sourced ingredients made a very special touch. I'd recommend the Peach and Vanilla and Raspberry jams😍

Comfortable and clean property, with good parking. We didn’t have the breakfast, but it looked good from all the reviews! Fresh milk in the fridge for morning teas. The host was very accommodating on our late arrival. Spacious room.

Great location, friendly owners and lovely property

Location for us was perfect! Lovely and quiet for the evening but within a 20 min walk of the centre for during the day. The room was nicely decorated, clean and the fridge came in very handy as it allowed us to store some drinks and snacks to take out on day trips. Couldn’t fault the owners. Lisa was welcoming when we arrived and made sure we were well looked after at breakfast. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was great. The property does sit on a hill so some may find the driveway difficult. To get around this, there are steps through the garden and I’m sure the owners would happily assist with bags should anyone need help from the lower car park. Would definitely recommend and if we ever returned I’d happily rebook.

Not a complaint, just personal preference, we would have preferred a bigger TV in the room. There is a larger TV available in the communal lounge area, but after a busy day, we just wanted to chill in our room. Also, staying in the family room, it would have been handy if the connecting room had a TV.

Best stay ever..

The welcome from our lovely host. The clean room and facilities were amazing. Fridge in room everything was spotless bedding towels ect. It even has a few areas to sit and a pool. Oh and breakfast was soo good with lots of choices.

The drive . The car park was at the bottom it was great and roomy it was a slope upto the house. It was worthwhile but maybe a mention.

The property was clean, spacious, welcoming, and everything we required was there What was an extra added bonus? Was the lovely amount of outdoor space? Plenty of places to sit in the garden and also has a lovely pool it was within walking distance of the local town talking without being in the hustle and bustle of everything

Fantastic stay

Can't fault at all. Lovely little apartment,. Well looked after. Parking onsite. Close enough to leave the car and walk down to the main area of Torquay. Had breakfast served in our room as we had my dog with us . Really great food and nothing too much trouble.

Great accommodation, lovely stay.

Room was clean and comfortable, breakfast was excellent and the hosts were lovely. We had a small fridge in the room which was an added bonus. The location was on the outskirts of Torquay town centre but only a leisurely 20 minute walk to the main strip. The buses ran every 10 minutes and the stop was a couple of minutes from the hotel so we didn't use our car at all. You could travel off peak for £3 so we went to Brixham, Paignton and Teignmouth during our stay.

Just wonderful

Location was perfect, a short walk to the town, but far enough to be peaceful and quiet, the house and room was perfect, but most of all clean. The pool was an added bonus that was ideal for my 9 yr old to enjoy. For breakfast we had plenty of options every day and we tried it all, it was delicious every day, on one day we had an early start so Lisa prepared it for us the evening before and delivered it to our room ready for us which was extremely helpful. All the guests staying were extremely friendly and our hosts were just wonderful, chatty and very welcoming. We can't wait to visit again

Overall we enjoyed our stay at The Charterhouse and would recommend it to friends and family.

Breakfast was very good and varied. Areas to sit and unwind along with a small swimming pool which was great at the end of a day out. The hotel was near the promenade in a nice quiet residential area.

Lots of steps and incline from the car park which we were unaware of and as we our seventies we struggled with our cases.We also found it tiring at the end of the day.

Lovely stay

It was a lovely room, very light and airy. It was very clean with a large comfy bed and we both slept really well. The breakfast was great with a good selection of cereal, home made jams and yogurt. The full English was lovely too. The hosts were very friendly and went out of their way to make you feel at home. We had a great stay and would highly recommend it 👌

We didn't realise how far we were away from the town centre as my partner has bad legs we had to get a taxi or bus into town but it didn't put us out too much as we still enjoyed and on the upside it was peaceful.

The location, choice of different rooms, cleanliness, breakfast choice, and quality are fantastic. The pool area has been newly renovated and looks amazing. Lisa and Cristophe are fantastic hosts and do all they can to make your stay the best possible.

From the start, nicely easy to check-in process. Room was comfy and enough space for 2 people to stay. Break fast was superb even nice home made jam cooked by Chris was super nice! Room was very clean as well and we really hope will come back soon this accommodation!

Lovely hotel near to seafront at Torquay

Myself & my partner had a lovely stay here, we brought our dog with us, and lisa & Christoph went above & beyond to go out of the way for us. to accommodate all that we needed, they made us very welcome. The Breakfast was excellent with locally sourced ingredients, the room & bed very comfortable, shower lovely hot super soft towels & lots of added extras left for us to use ie hairdryer shower gel hair shampoo hand-wash, we would definitely recommend here, and will be back to stay again. Excellent breakfast, beautiful room, pleasant walk into town. Outstanding care and attention. Lovely Victorian Villa, with modern, clean room, large and lovely bathroom. Highly recommended, ultra friendly and helpful. Will definitely go back.

Nothing, some may find walking into the centre of town a bit far, there’s a bus and taxi, ample car parks in the town centre, we preferred the walk along the beach.
