About this house rental

Summary:

Experience the charm of Dartmouth at this 19th-century fisherman’s cottage, full of original features. This cosy retreat sleeps up to 4 guests with a king-size room and a double room. The bathroom boasts a spacious walk-in shower. Downstairs, enjoy the open-plan kitchen, living, and dining area, well-equipped and featuring a cosy woodburner. Outside, relax in the luscious garden with seating. Perfect for a tranquil getaway in Devon's picturesque surroundings.

The Space:

Set over multiple floors, this former fisherman’s cottage has just the right balance of character features and modern, coastal-inspired styling. On the ground floor, feel instantly at home from the comfort of your cosy living room. After long day’s exploring, nothing beats settling into the velvet sofa with a film on the Smart TV. And when the nights are chilly, get the woodburner roaring.

Its sociable open-plan layout makes for a welcoming flow. The living room leads onto the dining area and well-equipped kitchen, which has everything you need to rustle up delicious holiday meals.

Head upstairs and you’ll find two charming bedrooms - one king and one double - with wooden sash windows and exposed stone walls. As well as a desk area to work in and a modern family bathroom with a large walk-in shower. On sunny days, head outside to the stunning garden that’s bursting with life. Enjoy morning cups of tea in the sun or see in sundowners with a glass of wine in hand - heaven.

Guest Access:

Guests have access to the whole cottage and garden.

The Neighborhood:

Dartmouth is a picturesque town on the River Dart in Devon and the cottage is positioned in the centre of it all! Explore Dartmouth Castle, a historic fortress offering stunning views of the estuary. Stroll along the scenic Embankment and enjoy the bustling harbour with its charming shops and cafes. Visit the Britannia Royal Naval College, a striking landmark.

Take a boat trip along the river or venture to nearby beaches like Blackpool Sands. Wander through the historic streets to find art galleries and unique boutiques. Savour fresh seafood at local restaurants and experience the town’s vibrant festivals and regattas. Dartmouth promises a delightful mix of history, culture, and natural beauty. Find more local tips and trips in your Guest Guide, which is available upon booking.

Getting Around:

Due to the remote nature of Devon, a car is recommended for getting the most out of your stay here. Free parking can be found in the surrounding streets, and there is also a paid car park around 7 minutes walk away.

If you are travelling by train, the nearest station is in Totnes. It's about half an hour's drive from the property and taxis are available in the town. There is also a good bus route from Totnes train station to Dartmouth Pontoon, from which it's then a 5-minute walk to the cottage.

Other Things to Note:

Please note, the cottage is on quite a steep hill and whilst it is possible to park outside to load/unload, it is a typical narrow harbour town road. The staircase is also quite quirky and spirals around. So it may not be suitable for those with mobility limitations.

Please do not park in the carport beneath the property as this space belongs to our neighbour.

We welcome a maximum of two small/medium sized dogs OR 1 large dog, with a fee of £20/dog. It is on the condition they are not allowed on the soft furnishings or in the bedrooms and not left in the property unattended.

The cottage is.... decent - perfectly ok for a couple of days away but I would not want to use it for longer than a weekend. I wouldn't think of this as a holiday cottage - you are getting a fairly basic house that has a lot of the owner's things in it and isn't really kept at holiday cottage standard. I don't want to complain too much - it was a lovely stay but there were a few things we came across that were a little disappointing.Pros:- beautiful cottage- great location- a big plus - the wifi was fantastic!- tv was great with lots of streaming options- sofas, armchairs and bed were all very comfy- garden was lovely- oven/stove top greatcons- the dining table was positioned directly above a step that made at least 2 of the 4 seats unusable without moving the entire table to another part of the room.- there was no space to put any of our food away other than in the fridge. everything had to live on the counter. the cupboards were filed with either the owner's or previous guest's items.- the lamps in the smaller bedroom were both broken.- kitchen implements were just dumped in a drawer, no organisation to it at all.- The holding deposit is not clearly listed and is buried in the t&cs, even though the listing says "no hidden fees". it was no issue though and I appreciate the speedy comms about it.as we had come from a 7 days at an incredible NT cottage for only a little more than 3 days at this cottage, it was a little disappointing.
