Great location for exploring, Georgina was friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable and we could bring our dog too. The breakfast was great and the option to buy a packed lunch for our day out was really helpful. There is an inn within walking distance for an evening meal.

The location is outstanding, Georgina and other staff were all friendly, nothing was too much trouble. A great view from our room and an outstanding breakfast.
Evening meal from the inn just down the path (10 min walk away), on the way back we were lucky enough to see a sky full of stars, very little light pollution so it was good to see.
A great location to do some hill walking & there are plenty to choose from.

Nicely located at the end of Wasdale so you can get onto all the walks. Or you can walk out and enjoy walking Wastwater or swimming paddle boarding canoeing although you need to bring your own as it is a very remote part of the lakes very beautiful but you do need to bring everything with you
No movement on pack lunches if you haven’t got your order in by the stroke of 7pm and I mean at the stroke of seven well that’s it you have missed out. Even if you ask in the morning the answer is noo.

Great place at the top of the Wasdale valley, great access to walks and fells including routes to Scafell Pike and to the local pub as well as over into the next valley for my onward trip.
Really friendly and welcoming - good communications ahead of my arrival and Georgina was helpful in allowing me to drop off my luggage in the morning ahead of a day's walking.
Very quiet and comfy room, lovely bed and linens, everything spotless.
Great breakfast and choices. All round good stay and would be happy to stay another time to explore the area more.

As soon as we arrived Georgina was at the gate to meet us and welcome us. A lovely little chat, invited us in and explained a few processes with breakfast and offering packet lunches and when the hours when the front door is locked. Showed us our room which was lovely, where the toilets and showers were. The housekeeping was excellent, the full English breakfasts i had every morning were 1st class, especially the bacon! Nice and quiet too. I can't rate this experience highly enough and anyone thinking about staying here should stay. You''ll love it and you'll go back which is what we plan to do. I would like to experience a winter stay in the living room in front of the fire! Lovely,
Going home!

Dog friendly, host extremely helpful and accommodating when I arrived a bit late after traffic nightmares. Breakfast options great (except perhaps if you’re vegan). Really appreciated the packed lunch option. Location amazing nestled against Kirk Fell so really quiet but easy walking distance to the pub. Honestly, couldn’t be better.
No real shortcomings but prospective guests should understand this is a proper farmhouse b&b so you can’t expect en suite facilities, air con or giant rooms. Downstairs loo is fine and functional but a bit rustic.

Close to place we were visiting and able to return late and still gain access to rooms. Breakfast was great with large pot of tea and kettle facilities in both rooms
Low beams but it is a farmhouse of long standing so we did expect them and loved the warm of their home (16thcentury building so expect low beams and thick walls)

Location - Perfect for the Lakes and Scafell Pike
Georgina was very nice and helpful and gave a great take out for early start on the mountain
All great but being an old farm building, floorboards were a bit creaky!

The location was perfect for climbing Scafell Pike and the accommodation was very welcoming. Much needed WIFI.
I assumed an en-suite but the toilet and bathroom were a short distance from the room. Having said that I never had to wait for using either. Not sure if other rooms had en-suite.
No evening meals but they do supply sandwiches for lunch is requested.
The lane to the B&B is a bit awkward to find with no passing places. You are strongly advised to read/print the instructions how to get there as there is no mobile signal in the area. I wish I had!

Our host was so welcoming and so very helpful, this is one of the best welcome I've had in my life (like visiting a loving family) and they have great attention to detail there. Plus obviously the location in unbeatable, right at the foot of Scafell Pike! We arranged for packed lunches instead of breakfast, as we left at 6am the next day to climb that! The packed lunches were soooo good, and they had both gluten free and dairy free options for me, which is so unexpected and so brilliant! The room had a beautiful view, great tea and coffee tray, a very comfy bed, and a sink. Highly recommend for the location and friendly caring staff.
The room is not ensuite, so we shared a toilet and 2 bathrooms with other guests on the same floor. This is the only reason why I mark this property down to 8 instead of 10, as this matters to me. I must say it was very worth staying there anyway!

My mum and I stayed at this lovely B&B the night before climbing Scafell Pike, and it was absolutely perfect. The staff were so welcoming and helpful – they took the time to go over a map with us and clearly explained the best route for the hike, which made a real difference to our day. The location couldn’t be better, especially if you're planning to explore the fells. They also provided a fantastic packed lunch for the walk, which was much appreciated. Everything about our stay was just right – comfortable, friendly, and really well thought out. Highly recommend!

Burnthwaite Farm B&B is nestled in one of the most stunningly beautiful locations in all of England. It’s a working farm that feels like it stepped straight out of the pages of a classic novel. The very first building a walker sees when descending into Wasdale from Sty Head and Great Gable, it offers exactly the kind of welcome you’d hope for from a traditional Lakeland B&B.
The building itself is wonderfully old, and if any modern conveniences are missing, that’s entirely due to its age, which more than compensates with charm. Equally warm and welcoming is the proprietor, Georgina, who ensures every guest experiences true Lakeland hospitality.
The B&B is just a short walk from the famous Wasdale Head Inn if you fancy a pint, though the cozy lounge also offers a great place to relax with other guests. The beds were comfortable, the breakfast hearty, and the packed lunch generous. And, shockingly, the internet was perfectly fine (though honestly, who needs it here?).
I’ll absolutely choose Burnthwaite again the next time I’m in Wasdale. In fact, I’ll go out of my way to return, and this time, I’ll treat the owners to a pint, because I’d love to hear more about life and sheep farming in one of the most breathtaking corners of England.

Perfect location for exploring the upper Wasdale Valley. Close enough to the Wasdale Head Inn for great evening meals. Nice to see the lambs in the fields surrounding the cottage. Lovely friendly staff. Excellent cooked breakfast.
I can’t say there was anything to dislike but for the benefit of other potential guests I’d recommend taking earplugs for a good nights sleep as it’s an old building and subject to noise travelling easily. Be aware also that the cottage is part of a working farm so expect a little muck and aroma in the immediate vicinity! Parking is fairly limited and the cottage is up a single gravel track road so best to arrive in a reasonably small car.

Location and the price for it was spot on. Can literally start your walk to the top of Scafell Pike (or wherever) from the front door. Friendly and helpful owner. Option of either breakfast or a packed lunch if you’re like me and hitting the trails early. Nearby pub also highly recommended. Will happily stay again if I’m ever back in the area.

The best part is the host with her husband. Lovely people and very spontaneous. The beautiful countryside is a plus! Lots of people who love to hike and climb the mountains.
We had to keep the door closed otherwise Georgina would sneak in and kidnap our dog 😂.

As a tall person I did knock my head as some parts are low, but what do you expect from a building built in the 16th century
This is not a dislike mind

Firstly Burnthwaithe is in an outstanding location. From the moment I walked in Georgina gave excellent customer service. My room was comfortable, clean and tidy. I had a good night's sleep.. The cooked breakfast was cooked to perfection. I then had a super easy checkout. The room and breakfast were great value for money. I would definitely stay again.
