Really sorry for a disappointing experience

Just the location (1 minute from the ferry pier) and the quiet

Unfortunately it wasn't a pleasant experience. The flat is rated 9.4 for cleanliness but it's absolutely not up to it. We had to clean the kitchen sink, the microwave, the washing machine, all the dishes, cutlery and pans we were going to use, the shower...we had to wash the towels before using them since there was dust and I'm allergic. Before doing this we immediately contacted the host for help and she simply told us that if the flat wasn't up to our standards we could go and ask to the near Inn and be refunded...not a solution. We booked a flat for a reason, not a B&B; moreover, finding another suitable flat on Orkney so last minute is not so easy. At that point we simply suggested that someone came to clean but she told us it wasn't possible that day so we were forced to take care of the cleaning. Not nice on holiday.... It was a first and quite disappointing having to deal with such an unhelpful host since people in Scotland are usually very welcoming and kind.

Peaceful location, perfect for self catering.

Flat was damp, our clothes felt damp in the morning. The bedding did not fit the bed the fitted sheet was too small and exposed the mattress . The towels were a mis-match and old. Could do with a hairdryer. We found it strange that we had no communication from the owner no code to get in we had to phone to access the apartment to be told I sent it, we still have not recieved any communication?

A lovely flat but too noisy from neighbours above

The flat is in a beautiful location and we had no issues finding it. The flat was clean and can be warmed up quickly, the bed was really comfortable. The kitchen had lots of equipment with a descent kettle, oven and what looks to be a new fridge. The lounge was nice to chill out in and we enjoyed the flat itself.

What let this flat down was the noise from the neighbours above. The flat appears to have once been a house which has been separated into two units up and down. We could hear them walking around, the kettle boiling, their dog barking when they went out, the washing machine spinning at 10pm wasn't the best after a very long day of sightseeing. On this basis, although the flat was great, we would.not return here as we enjoy peace and quiet where we stay. The frying pan needs replacing and we only seemed to get hot water for washing up for 2 minutes then it would go cold. The flat is pretty damp but maybe that's just what happens next to the sea.

Excellent accommodation in a lovely village

Really clean and comfortable modern accommodation in a fisherman's cottage. Very well equipped. We had our car with us and so had no problem getting around Orkney, but there is a good public transport system.

Perfect location as a base to visit Orkneys. Easy access to the rest of archipelago (if you bring a car as we did). Beautifully located by the very sea/bay. Parking space available. We've been eating out though the kitchen in a flat is fully equipped if you bother to cook. Extremely quiet area, highly recommended for a full mental retreat from stress and crowded cities, however there is a access to a very decent WiFi (if you need it). Very friendly local folks. Just loved it and definitely coming back next year. Contacted the owner via email and received reply within 10 mins. So long story short – absolutely brill!!! Many thanks Tracy, Bart

The bed was comfortable, the kitchen and living room were nicely done, and there was a washer/dryer (though I did not use it). It was in a great location; the pub around the corner was wonderful, and so were the locals I met there.

Exceptional

Location on the Quayside (but not sea view) was great, close parking and walking distance to 2 pubs one offering excellent food. The flat has all the facilities and amenities you will need for your stay.

Sea view would have been nice but you can't have everything ! Everything else was great.
