    This hotel is a major letdown and absolutely does not deserve its 4-star hotel rating. First, the booking process was a nightmare. I accidentally booked the wrong hotel and immediately requested a cancellation via Agoda and the hotel, but was flat-out refused. I was forced to stay here against my will. The breakfast was a joke. On the first day, the kitchen was "broken," and we were served a cold continental meal with old, wrinkly fruit. When we complained, we were told the manager wasn't working and the restaurant was "out of their control"—an unacceptable excuse. While hot food appeared on days 2 and 3, it was never replenished on time. The staff's conduct was appalling. One morning, while guests were still eating, servers, receptionist and off-duty employees helped themselves to the buffet and ate right next to the serving station. They also loudly discussed operational issues in the middle of the dining area, ruining the peaceful atmosphere. To top it off, the bathroom was unhygienic; the non-slip bath mat was old and covered in mould, which my daughter found utterly disgusting. We were relieved to check out. I have filed a formal complaint requesting a refund. I strongly advise future guests to avoid this hotel until management addresses these serious hygiene and service issues.

    So thankful to have chosen this hotel for an elderly relative to attend a wedding. The duty manager and reception staff did everything they could to provide the best and safesT room possible and allowed us to help with breakfast. The reception staff were so respectful and so kind it made for a wonderful visit. Thank you.

    The great advantage of the Wessex Hotel is definitely its location, right in the heart of the town. There is quite a nice bar area, but the decor has some glaring faults: the rooms have comfy beds but are dated and tired especially in the bathrooms. We found the staff not really helpful, just doing the basics, and we did not see a lot of evidence of cleaning going on in the general areas. On the whole a pretty 'average' experience for the money. Would not really recommend to a friend.
