Location and staff were great.
The rooms were awful. They were dated which isn’t the problem. The problem was how dirty they were. When we arrived we were allocated a room, the bathroom still had toothpaste on the shelf from brushes and the basin hole had tooth floss in it from the previous people. The staff were great and moved us immediately, but unfortunately the next room was grim as well. Same problem with toothpaste ever. We had to go straight out and didn’t see the gunge that was on the bedside cabinet and also the condom packet on the floor just under the bed. The bathroom was just generally filthy. We were given £50 refund and a free drink, because our room wasn’t available on checkin. But I would never stay at this hotel again

That they don’t reserve parking spaces.

Very comfortable first floor double room overlooking the cathedral. It was well presented and quiet. The best view of the cathedral, illuminated at night, so quite magical.

I really don’t think I should be asked about the excuse that was described as a breakfast
Upon arrival I asked staff if breakfast was available and the response was yes at a cost of 12 pounds per head
On the first morning of our stay we were charged 14.50 per head for what can only be described as an under cooked dog dinner .
Staff were surly.
Later i noticed a sign that stated there was a discount for hotel guest but the staff member did not applie this .
All these thing then set of a chain reaction to then closely looking at the hotel which unfortunately is noe tired and lacking .
In the end it was its location.

Room was nicely and appeared to be recently decorated, all was very clean apart from two cobwebs by the curtains. The bed and pillows were some of the comfiest i and my partner had ever slept in.
Shower was good as well as being very clean. For the money i would certainly recommend it for anyone visiting the city, it also had a beautiful view of the cathedral.
The hotel is poorly signposted and very hard to locate, we drove around for 30 mins to try and find it.

The breakfast was fine to start the day with. A super location right beside the Cathedral.
7.0 / 10.0
The bar area and location were the best parts.
The room and corridors were very tired and dated, bathroom had no hand soap and felt dirty.
5.0 / 10.0
Comfy beds, plenty of towels. Iron and board. Tea and coffee facilities. Fairry quiet inside.
Some rooms face the delivery area of opposite hotel and deliver from 4am onwards with no care for noise. Plug sockets faulty. Poor shower.

Booked for the hotel's location, which was great, right in the centre of town and next to the Cathedral. It was surprisingly quiet given its location.
Breakfast was good.
Hotel very tired in appearance and utilies within the room.
No lift facility to the floor level of our room.
3.0 / 10.0
The location was excellent and the beds were comfy
It was grubby, stained carpets and bath, worn out scratched furniture, terrible water pressure and the key cards kept failing after single use.

The location was great
This hotel had about 4 different names. The receptionist had never heard of Dancester and she was very unfriendly

Location
Mattress was so uncomfortable with springs clearly beyond their life. It was impossible to sleep.I reported it to receptionist who failed to offer any compensation the next morning and would only pass the complaint on to her manager. I also asked for a receipt via my email and I am still waiting 24 hours later for it. An awful experience.

Location was great. Opposite the cathedral and a few minutes walk from the shops and restaurants. Receptionist was particularly friendly and very nice. Her name began with an M (so sorry I can’t remember it) and I know her sister was getting married soon so hope that helps identify her. My sisters were staying too and we all thought she was lovely. Nice reception rooms. Good check out time.
Rooms a little dated

The location was excellent. Staff were fine
The building itself is tired. Public areas have been refurbished but rooms, staitrcases and corridors are in need of attention. Water pressure in showers is poor. Car park is limited.
We needed 4 rooms on the same night so booked early. Closer to the date of our stay the same rooms were available at 40% less

Location was perfect for local sights and shopping. Rooms were very spacious and clean. The beds were very comfortable and the coffee/tea making facilities were a welcome sight. Buffet-style breakfast was wonderful with a lovely selection of mini pain au chocolats and croissants, good choice of juices and tea/coffees, and a great selection of cold meats or full English breakfast was available. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Couldn't get the heater to work in one of two rooms which would have been a bonus as we got rather cold and wet in the awful weather we had :-( but we soon dried out, had a rest and forgot all about it by the time we were going out again so it didn't spoil our stay.

The location is excellent, next to the cathedral and a very short walk to the High Street. Very comfortable beds. Car parking (although full on Friday/Saturday.
The lack of power sockets next to the bed. Heating via stand-alone appliances. In general need of up-dating.

Excellent position right next to the Cathedral in the middle of town. Reception bar and restaurant areas were very nice and warm. The staff were all extremely helpful.
Our room was not warm enough on a very cold night. It was perfectly clean and the beds were comfortable, and everything worked fine, but it was very dared.

Excellent location and managed to get parked
Wasn’t overly clear I was in the correct car park but there had been a name change since my time of booking.
There were other customers in my floor as well which were smoking cannabis which heavily filled the corridor with the smell.

Very enjoyable stay in a superb location. Large room overlooking the cathedral with a very comfortable bed. Staff very friendly and helpful. Although some renovation work going on, the bar area was really nice.
The furniture and bathroom were a little 'tired' but that didn't detract from our stay at all. Very few parking spaces and a little pricey at £30 for two nights but it is Winchester after all.
3.0 / 10.0
The breakfast was fair. Cooked items were nice, pastries were very uninteresting. Position next to the cathedral couldn't have been more convenient, the paid parking was also good.
The mattresses were extremely uncomfortable. We were in three different rooms and they all suffered the same issues, no one got a good night's sleep. Cleanliness was poor, rubbish found in all rooms and bathrooms were not clean. The whole place is very tired and needs refurbishing. The window doesn't shut tight as the plastic parts that should force the levers tight were missing so noise from outside, especially the clocktower chiming every quarter, didn't help the sleep situation. The curtain had to be re-attached as some of the hooks had come out of the eyes.

The closeness to the Cathedral & City Centre.
Duvet not big enough for Bed & more Tea/ Coffee in the room would have been good.

Good location
Very tired, dated and in need of refurbishment. Noise from outside as windows badly insulated. Lack of power sockets/USB points next to bed.
5.0 / 10.0
It was room only. Very much what you would expect, clean and comfortable with a bath, much to my wifes delight.
9.0 / 10.0
Had a lovely room with a view of the Cathedral. Excellent location. Felt safe going out in the evening and walking back to the hotel.
8.0 / 10.0
Air conditioning in the room was welcome especially as it was a compact double. a view of the cathedral was fabulous.
some of the complimentary soaps and conditioners were empty, there was an annoying amount of noise from plumbing - room 227. overall a good stay but minor details detracted from the overall experience.
7.0 / 10.0
Great location. Staff very helpful. Lovely view from the cathedral side rooms.
The hotel is tatty badly in need of a full renovation as although they have replaced some furnitute much of it is still damaged, bathrooms are in need of retiling and walls of the common parts full of cracks and in places mould and damp visible. An easier fix is the bookign system which is confusing and makes it very difficult to find the best rate for the rooms hwihc are inconsistently described - the new branded website is hopelessly bad.

Stayed in Privilege room. Great location and really big comfy bed. The room was large and had extras like robe, slippers, coffee machine.
Yes, furniture was old and took us a while to work out lighting and air con. Couldn’t see Cathedral as trees obscured view but not hotel fault

Rooms are good size and clean, very comfortable beds. Breakfast was nice, nothing out of ordinary. Good location in centre, bit far from train station (20 mins walking) but fine if you took taxi or Uber. Nice view of cathedral in the restaurant, but not all rooms have the view available- check before you travel which way your room is facing avoid Market Lane side. Staff friendly. Standard bathroom, OK facilities e.g. tea/coffee. I like the pictures and tapestries decorations keeping with the medieval theme of the cathedral nearby.
The hotel it self is ugly building from 70ties or 80es, we couldn't find the main entrance as it was hidden behind the car park and the hotel itself looked like a some kind of storage facility. Inside it need a lot of work, carpets were secured with duct tapes almost everywhere and the furniture was tired and the whole look seen better times in the past. We stayed in twin room which was above the main entrance in Market Lane- opposite Travelodge and that was the main problem, as there was huge traffic of delivery lorries, rubbish collections including shattering glass bottles to bins constantly per whole night! It was Monday, so maybe other nights are fine. The lorries and vans have been coming and going and reversing until 2 am and started again at 5 am and didn't stopped until we left. We could not close the window as it was too hot and there is no air con. Needs investment and improve the whole layout (bit of maize of stairs and corridors) and better use of the amazing view for the cathedral.

Stopped here for one night before setting off to walk the South Downs Way. Very comfy bed and quiet. Set in a wonderful location next to the cathedral
A bit expensive but it was a Friday night

Its location was fabulous. Price was very reasonable. Proximity to town centre and available parking.
The bathroom was not easy for older clients. Hotel generally a bit tired but not unacceptable.

The property is very dated, windows not doubled glazed so it was noisy, we were next to the laundry room, staff were very loud from early morning. Location was good and thee bed was comfy, the bathroom needed updating.

Spacious room, airy, peaceful view of cathedral. Fridge and comfy chairs in room.
Bathroom lights didn't all work

Large room, beautiful view of the Cathedral
Money needs to be spent on upgrading rooms. The sofa in our room was heavily stained and in the bathroom the grouting was coming out above the bath.

Nothing really
