A comfortable nights sleep in the right location.

A really nice place in a great location, decor was fun with prison doors on each room and convict pictures up the stairs. It was clean, the rooms had plenty of space and were comfortable with spotless bathrooms. It was only a short walk in to the city centre. Breakfast was freshly cooked and tasty. Would definitely stay again in the future. Also just down the road from the most amazing Japanese restaurant!

Definitely recommend.

The atmosphere of the hotel is amazing, I love the back story behind the rooms and the history shown on the walls is awesome. The bed was extremely comfortable, the shower was easy to operate and spacious, the location of the hotel is perfect too. The breakfast served in the morning was tasty and they even had gluten free options! A bonus to the whole experience is definitely the terrace area, its accessible at any time and the view is incredible.

Very nice room and a great location.

Great location near Winchester Cathedral and the Winchester Christmas Market. Spacious room with a view of the cathedral. Pub located next door which was very convenient. Very cool history. Breakfast was very good. There were also drinks and some snacks available in the evening. Park at the Chesil Street Multi Storey structure. 5 minute walk. It was very crowded when we arrived, but spaces were opening up all the time.

I found the bathroom was a little small, but that seems to be the norm in the UK.

A wonderful and quirky hotel

A really lovely and quirky property, very clean and everything one could need. A fabulous cooked breakfast to start the day. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend.

Not a lump of coal in sight !

The Black Hole is a wonderful place to stay, quirky decor, fabulous staff, delicious breakfasts and a comfortable bed in a room with everything you need. Emma and the team make you really welcome, nothing is too much trouble, and they are happy to suggest things to see and do, along with directions! Will definitely be returning sometime.

It’s quirky, gr8 location, excellent facilities, gr8 breakfast, accommodating staff, gr8 local bar next door. Even the shower gel was amazing and the cute mugs. Being able to grab a hot chocolate before bed . Loved it

Quirky. Close to town. Comfy bed (being picky it was ‘only’ a standard double in a not enormous room). V Clean. Staff were lovely. The roof terrace would be fab in the sunshine.

Breakfast was lovely.....excellent quality....location was great....lovely walk along the river into town ....staff very attentive and friendly very quirky friendly pub next door called the black boy, rooms are of high standard and very clean, the help yourself coffee machine was a hit

Friendly welcome & staff in general Bed was comfortable Room was clean Good shower Great to have fresh orange at breakfast Nice to have access to drinks at all times

Rooms were compact & got quite warm There was a fan but nowhere to situate it due to room layout Girl got our breakfast order wrong & seemed to lack a bit of care. We could hear a lot of laughing in the kitchen which is fine but it seemed to impact on the quality a bit.

It’s next to a main road, so although not excessively noisy at times you can hear traffic, but that wouldn’t put me off staying again

Quirky place to stay in Winchester

Convenient location in Winchester with friendly staff. Clean & comfy bedroom/bathroom. Nice to be able to check out at 11am.

Breakfast was good (orange juice was excellent!) but croissants/bread selection could have been better (e.g fresh bread). It may also be nice to offer filter/cafetière coffee. Little bit noisy being by the main road but we slept ok!

A perfect location and setting for a weekend in Winch!

We loved our one night stay in the Black Hole. It was really quirky and we loved the theme!! The facilities were lovely, great location and the nearest car park was only 5 mins away. Breakfast was everything we could want with the whole range from continental to cooked. Good quality. Particularly loved the freshly squeezed orange juice. Also we loved that we could pop downstairs to the dining area any time to help ourselves to tea/coffee etc.. The staff were warm, friendly and very helpful.

Lovely, quirky hotel with great hospitality,I would recommend to anyone staying in Winchester

The hotel "prison" theme gave the hotel a really great atmosphere. The rooms were absolutely fine - clean and well looked after. The breakfast was was excellent - a good choice and freshly made. The location to central Winchester was absolutely perfect - a scenic 5 minute walk into the city along the river bank. The adjoining pub was also great. The owner made us feel so very welcome and went out of her way to ensure we had a lovely stay in the city.

Chilled, friendly and a good place to stay

Location Steph on reception Saturday afternoon when I arrived was brilliant … v chilled explained EVERYTHING… couple of routes T to the town centre .. very professional and friendly Very good breakfast .. bacon and tomatoes especially … my only gripe is a coffee machine … maybe have a cafetière option for old school folk like me ! Clean and user friendly room … great bed and bedding I was very happy!!

I would have really appreciated a full length mirror in the room.. there’s definitely room for one And a bottle of water IN the room rather than having to go downstairs Otherwise marvellous 🤩

Lovely B&B and mostly friendly staff, would like to not be rushed at breakfast.

The woman who greeted me upon arrival was lovely and hunted for a fan and brought it to our room. Bath (upon request before booking) was appreciated as we didn’t have this last time we stayed.

We asked upon arrival what time was the latest we could come down for breakfast and was told 10, which was written down so that they could expect us. We turned up at 10 on the dot and a staff member then told us to come down earlier as they like to start cleaning up then, so we felt rushed. They should make sure that they tell people that 9:45 is the latest time for breakfast.

Outstanding!

Love this quirky, cosy, comfortable, cool place minutes from the city centre on foot via the river Itchen. Cells for bedrooms with prison doors were immaculately clean and bed so comfortable. Staff members we met were really lovely (Mel and Steph) breakfast delicious and generous. Bonus gorgeous roof terrace with outstanding views across Winchester. All in all highly recommend - don’t miss the Black Boy pub next door! The Sparkies

Small and intimate. Simple and comfortable? I arrived early to drop my bag off but as room was ready they allowed me to check in before midday. This is not a hotel per se…more a boutique B&B. The Cell / room was unusual as the door has a prison feel but inside it was and simply furnished but very comfortable.

Great location, easy walk into town. Secure bike shed over the road. Helpful and friendly staff. Lovely roof terrace.

A wonderful quirky hotel and a fabulous breakfast - what more can you ask for !

This a quirky, original, beautifully done hotel. The staff were so friendly. The room was lovely - comfortable bed and a great shower. And the fluffiest of towels. We loved the books for tables and the pictures of the rogues on the stairs. The breakfast was fabulous- with real orange juice too !

Room was very very hot, order taken for breakfast, scrambled egg on toast ordered having been asked white or brown toast then delivered with no toast, big queue for toaster os had to eat without or let it get cold, other breakfast ordered with baked beans but they didn't arrive
