This was a bed only stop as we only had one night. It was warm and comfortable with good bathroom facilities

Very central, had parking.

Shower was too low to be useful and had no instructions for hot or cold. Decor very dated, carpets had holes, bed was dreadfully uncomfortable. There was a used sanitary towel in the bathroom bin and a used razor in the shower. I reported it 4 times in three days before the bin was finally emptied

Location, right in the centre of town. The staff were great. I had a couple of issues with the room which they efficiently solved to my satisfaction.

The room furnishings were a bit dated and worn. But all was clean and tidy.

Excellent location 100m from the Cathedral, parking available, good accommodation and helpful staff

The Staff were very helpful, and the room was ready when we arrived more than 3 hours earlier than the check-in time. Everything about our overnight stay met our expectations (however, see remarks below)

The water pressure was not strong, so the shower was a bit weak. There were no bar snacks available (peanuts/crisps) (a small matter!).

For the money we paid for the room, we’re fine with it and despite minor issues, would stay again

The room setup worked perfectly for us as a couple with two very small children. The value for money on the stay itself was good.

When we asked for the sofa bed to be made up, and for a travel cot, we didn’t anticipate that the pillows from the main bed would have to be used for all three (main bed, sofa bed, cot). So for a family of four, we had one pillow each and there was no sheet/blanket for the cot (we brought our own mattress but didn’t think to bring bedding). The breakfast selection was not good value for money - limited fruit (e.g. no bananas) and no pastries etc.

Lovely room overlooking the cathedral. Comfortable bed and nice tea and coffee selection. Very helpful staff - I met Magdalena and Mohammed who were great.

Whatever product was used in the bathroom floor was slippery when I had my socks on. Fine when barefoot.

Enjoyable weekend away

Great location as we were in Winchester for the Christmas market, everything was in walking distance and the hotel was very comfortable.

We could hear a lot of noise from outside. The top of the hot tap was missing. Wallpaper falling off the wall In the bar. Non refundable £5 per room for stored baggage. Thought this was steep

The corridors were a bit rundown. There was wallpaper peeling of the walls. Toilet could have done with a bit of bleach. I thought it was overpriced for condition of bathroom, bedroom furniture. We had to pay £5 to have our luggage stored after checkout. I think for the price of two nights accommodation and paying for breakfast for two mornings, storing our luggage for a few hours should have been complimentary.

Improved since take-over, but more expensive!

Location. We've stayed in this hotel a few times before in order to visit the Christmas Market - it is very convenient for the market and the cathedral. Since the change of brand the restaurant/bar menu is much better (but more expensive). Staff are very friendly (reception, bar, restaurant, housekeeping) - many staff are the same as before the change of ownership.

Before this year it has been a Mercure hotel, and last year we thought it was looking a bit tired. This year it has been acquired by a different chain (Sunday?) and they have started to make it a bit more "up-market" - a good start, but still a way to go - and the prices have increased accordingly - £153 for 1 night B&B last year for a "privilege room" (overlooking the cathedral - admittedly through my Accor membership) compared with £253 for 1 night B&B this year in a "standard double" room (overlooking the street). After checking out, we used to be able to leave our bags in the hotel luggage store for free while we spent an hour or two looking around the town and market - this year we were charged £5 for this.

We were surprised that quite a lot of small things could have been improved. The wallpaper in the bar area was actually hanging off the walls and in our bedroom bits and pieces could have been better, i.e. The sink needed unblocking, water took a long time to drain away and the toilet flush was a bit tempermental.

Rough round the edges, first room smelt like sick and feet and looked like someone had done a load of drugs off the side. Efficiently moved by reception staff, second room better, view of cathedral was fab however the whole shower unit moved, water pressure was weak, room was freezing, you could feel draft through window.

Bed was dipping in the middle uncomfortable Cooked Breakfast not quite the quality you’d expect for £15pp. Hotel charge guests £15 to park within their small cramped spaced car park, not helpful in comparison to the Colbrook car park opposite. We stayed in a very outdated 1980s look and feel smelly part of the hotel and appreciate that renovation works are slowly being carried out, but it needs to be pointed out BEFORE you book at this venue. It’s got a charm about it but in need of serious updating. Bathroom screen seal crumbling away endless things to point out but it just about made for a one night adequate stay. Hotel was a Mercure before recently (May 2025) being leased to the OYO Sunday brand, so not sure when renovations began in earnest chicken or egg ??

Excellent location at the very heart of this historic city with all the key sites within short walking distance of the hotel. No time wasted and great when ever weather colder or wetter when you visit.
