Overall very good, but disappointing lack of Vegetarian options.
We had a one night stay at this cosy, welcoming pub and our room was perfect for two. We stayed in the "Fox" room which was spotlessly clean, nicely decorated, with a very comfortable bed, a generous tea/coffee tray, hairdryer and a lovely en-suite with a brilliant shower. The staff were really friendly, welcoming and helpful throughout our stay and the bar area was cheerful, nicely decorated and inviting, leading through to a surprisingly large restaurant area which we used in the evening. Parking and access to the bar and restaurant was very good, but worth noting that to get to the rooms you need to exit the pub itself and walk back through the carpark and then climb a set of metal stairs up to the accommodation itself.
The food, in general, was good - in the evening I had the Gamekeeper's Pie which was really delicious, lots of filling and perfect mash - but unfortunately my wife, who is vegetarian, did not have such a good experience as there was only one vegetarian main and starter on the menu and the main course was unavailable that day! My wife was offered the starter plus sides as an option which wasn't ideal but then she was offered Quiche and new potatoes and vegetables from the lunch menu which seemed a better choice. Unfortunately, there were no potatoes left and when the dish arrived, the slice of Quiche was tiny and dry with hardly any filling and the pastry was raw in places and so she ate chips, salad and coleslaw for her evening meal... with a tough pile of Kale on the side! To be fair, the Staff were very helpful in trying to provide alternatives but they were let down by the Kitchen that evening. Breakfast was much better - Continental only, but presented really nicely with a good range of cereals/fruit/yoghurt/pastries and an extremely efficient toaster. Excellent coffee as well!
See above comments re Vegetarian food. If there is only one option for vegetarians, please make sure it's available!

Very good and would stay again.
Bed and pillows were very comfortable and I slept really well. Staff were excellent, could not speak highly enough of them. Food was very nice, good selection of ales with a guest ale on tap, which was really nice too. I was allowed to take my dog in the bar and I was given a dog treat by staff which was a lovely touch. The location was lovely and quiet. I have already recommended this pub to friends.
Certainly not a lot to dislike really. The only thing I could say is it would have been nice to have an option of a full English breakfast or even a bacon or sausage sandwich, although the breakfast was perfectly adequate and there is plenty to chose from. Crusty bread at breakfast would be ideal also. Its a minor niggle but that's the only thing I could come up with when pressed for something and its all relevant to cost obviously. What you get for the price you pay cant be grumbled at.

Nice and comfy with very friendly staff
Room was lovely, beds were comfortable and it was nice and quiet, the staff member we spoke to was brilliant and very freindly, even gave us more tea bags upon request
the kitchen had an issue so there was no food and due to them being closed on the monday was no option for breakfast, also if you are on the larger size the shower may be a little bit small

A hidden gem
All the staff were very welcoming, even though they were clearly busy. The room, although small (we knew that), is well thought out and has everything you'd need. The natural light in the bathroom is a definite bonus. Food in the pub was lovely, as was the atmosphere. You'll need a big appetite! Plenty of parking too.
Just for others to know, the lanes to get there are narrow and not for the faint-hearted. Don't let that stop you going there though!

A nice stay in a pub in a very rural area.
Confused as to whether breakfast was included in price but for £7.50 each, a very nice continental was offered.
Very nice management and staff. Room better than expected.
Would have liked the choice of having a blanket on bed instead of duvet as hot that day.

It was just wonderful. Thank you again
Beautiful pub in the middle of Devon county side.
Staff are super friendly and so was the locals.
The cherry on the cake at this place is the food wow the chef here really knows what he’s doing we will definitely be returning.
My only complaint which I did let them know that there needs to be a mirror over the dressers would just make it so much easier to get ready

Best place we have stayed
All staff were so helpful and friendly. Was staying to attend a funeral and although we arrived before our cottage was ready, the staff went above and beyond to get our accommodation ready in super fast time. Such a lovely place
Think a few more items should be added to menu like light meals and side dishes eg chips , jacket potatoes or sandwiches

A lovely pub in a lovely village with lovely people but weird service
Refurbished last year. This is the fourth time we’d stayed here, first time under new management. First time at the ‘Fox’ end of the rooms. Facilities were fine and the staff friendly. Bed was comfortable and when we figured out the password begins with a lower case the WiFi was good. Dinner in the restaurant was good, well cooked and lovely service. However ….
Breakfast was listed as ‘continental’ at £7.50 each extra. It certainly wasn’t what I’ve had in the past and was ridiculously light on content and didn’t even come with juice or coffee. When we asked for coffee we were charged £7.20 extra. When I protested to Dan he refunded the breakfast charge but not the coffee.
We stayed for 3 nights - in that time no one had been in the room. Apparently you’re expected to make your own bed, Empty the bathroom bin, ask for clean towels at the bar (which fair does were supplied when we asked). There was no replenishment of coffee, milk, etc. although they supplied when we asked. Finally, when we arrived the radiators were turned off - when I turned them on, the bathroom needs bleeding. It still does because despite asking no one could supply a bleed key. It’s £95 a night. I’d expect more. I emailed these comments to the pub and Dan said he’d noted our comments. Maybe you can tell me if they’ve actually actioned them when you stay.
