Aussies in town!

Very friendly & helpful hosts Colin & Sarah couldn't be kinder. Superb breakfast choices & Colin cooked everything to perfection. Location a short walk into Keswick which was ideal. Also a good size room with a period fireplace & a king size comfortable bed.

Must stay here when in Keswick

Colin & Sarah went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed. From letting me check in a few hours early to letting me borrow their hiking stick, they went above and beyond. Breakfast was sumptuous and they have a good system for customizing it for each person.

Great 4 night stay

The location was good, just a very short walk to the centre. Colin and Sarah were fantastic hosts and very friendly. The place was very clean and comfortable (we opted for the extra-large double bed). There were USB ports in the room and the amenities were great. You can tell the hosts put their all into it and you can help yourself to confectionery and coffee every day.

Parking was not designated but managed to find a space every time.

Top tier hospitality

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed two nights at Portland House. Colin is a friendly, helpful, and happy host. He held down everything wonderfully while his wife was out of town. I can’t imagine the level of hospitality when they are both there! The room was large with a sitting area and the bed and sheets were very comfortable. I enjoyed the luxurious rain shower head, spacious shower, and great water pressure. The breakfast service was amazing and the portions were generous. The food is cooked to order based on your selections the night before and Colin was very accommodating about earlier breakfast times. The tables are set with proper linen tablecloths. My wife had salmon with some incredibly fluffy scrambled eggs; I had the hearty English Breakfast. Portland House offers complementary all day tea and coffee with an espresso/ cappuccino machine, shortbread cookies, and cakes. I loved the shortbread cookies so much I asked for the recipe which was graciously placed at my seat the next morning when I came to breakfast. Colin gave us great advice for day activities. His suggestions reflected the appropriate level of difficulty. We experienced some great views! Portland House is a great place to stay. Several of the guests that were there during our stay were return customers. This booking was a highlight of a 3-1/2 week trip through Great Britain.

Sarah and Colin are wonderful hosts and always ready to help and have a chat. Colin greeted me and offered me a coffee from their machine and some delicious homemade shortbread. This was available to use anytime. I was lucky to be able to park right outside, although parking wasn't difficult. Breakfasts were delicious and I was impressed with their organised team work. Always so cheerful. My room was perfect.

Really friendly hosts, the place is spotlessly clean and nicely decorated. Breakfast is great with lots of quality choice and options for gluten free / other allergies. Very comfy bed! Also great location 2 min walk from centre of Keswick, but still quiet. We loved our stay there.

Don’t find time to get away for a break, due to work and other commitments.

Liked the fact that there was a selection of breakfast choices. The fact that the hot drinks machine was available to use anytime. There were a selection of home made buns and biscuits The fact that it was only a few minutes from town centre The owners were very approachable

I had a lovey stay at Portland house. The hosts Colin and Sarah were extremely kind and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious! I was in the single room which had everything I needed and was able to park right outside. I would fully recommend staying here.

The Host were friendly nothing was too much. Breakfast was excellent. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. There was a hot drinks machine available 24 hours a day. Fresh milk available for drinks with in the room . We had ten relaxing days. I would highly recommend Portland House.

A bit of R&R in the Lake District

Really welcoming and helpful hosts in Colin and Sarah. Comfortable single room with a decent bed and a nice hot shower. Plenty of room for a solo traveller. Tea, coffee, kettle in room and fresh milk and cold water available from a small fridge at the bottom of the stairs. Nice breakfasts with options on fresh fruit salad/ porridge/ cereals/ yoghurts and choices with a full English cooked breakfast. Ideally placed in Keswick just a short walk from the town centre with its plentiful places to eat. On-street parking is always a gamble in Keswick but I was always able to find a spot near the establishment. Would highly recommend and I'll be back for a few days next year.

It was all very good and I'd happily return. Street car parking is a bit of a lottery but that's no different from most other Keswick B&B's
