A beautiful refuge

This was a lovely, quaint, and peaceful place to stay right in the middle of all the sights. The Pope’s Palace is right across the way with many nice restaurants around. All the other touristy things to do are a close walk away and Alain is the ultimate host. I hope to return to Avignon and stay here again!

A central, interesting, and friendly stay

The room was in a building exactly facing the Palais des Papes, ie it couldn't have been more central. Our host, Alain, was friendly, interesting, helpful and really made us feel at home. The continental breakfast was freshly prepared, and generous. We couldn't really do it justice!

We had hoped to spend time in the garden, which you walk through to get to the room. However, in October, it seemed dark, cool, and not what we had expected. Maybe in the height of the summer it would have been wonderfully refreshing. In October we just walked through it to get outside into the sunshine.

Face au Palais is a wonderful B&B in the heart of Avignon. This is a 10 out of 10 for us!

The location is right in the main square of Avignon, with a private courtyard/garden and a wonderful, friendly and interesting host. Breakfast was excellent with a variety to choose from including home made marmalade, hard boiled eggs and yogurt.

There really wasn't anything that we did not enjoy about Face au Palais and the host.

Fun and restful with every effort to provide everything you need.

The owner was so helpful and personable. A delight! Goes above and beyond to meet anything you need or are trying to figure out. The location was fabulous and the courtyard garden added a peaceful sanctuary in the middle of the city. The room and space was spacious and bright.

It's hard to imagine that you could ever encounter a more charming and more helpful host than Alain

It's difficult to adequately encapsulate the joy of staying with Alain at Face au Palais. Every aspect of the experience is so wonderfully, quintessentially French, from the building’s decidedly traditional decoration, to the Gallic charm extended by the host, all the way through to the fantastic breakfasts, complete with Alain’s home made fig jam. Face au Palais is deceptive; behind the small façade is a haven of peace and quiet, complete with a serene courtyard garden. And yet directly outside lies Avignon’s bustling main attraction, the architectural wonder of the colossal Palais des Papes (Popes Palace) along with the famous Pont D’Avignon only a few minutes walk away.

As long as you're not looking for the big hotel experience (Face au Palais has just two rooms) there's nothing to complain about. Just bear in mind that Face au Palais borders an enormous square, packed with restaurants of all stripes. The food and the service offered here varies considerably, so do look at Alain's shortlist to make sure you go somewhere good. And do book ahead; the best are packed even in late September.

Absolutely will stay here again!

Really a gem. This is more like a bed and breakfast. The host was wonderful - very attentive, very informative, great guy. And the location is perfect! It's quaint and fits Avignon to a tee. Will stay here again.

Alain the owner is an excellent host and really went out of his way to ensure that we had a good stay. The breakfast was delicious. Beautiful old typically French building in a perfect location, directly opposite the Palace but extremely quiet.

The layout of the king room is a bit quirky, with access to the bathroom across an open landing. The stairs up to the room would be difficult for anyone with restricted mobility.

Perfection opposite the Papal Palace

Together with the owner, Face Au Palais is one of those gems where everything comes together as perfection. As a solo traveller the stay & location was superb - combined with the magical enclosed garden along with the beautiful room and of course the breakfast executed perfectly by the owner Alain .

Top notch stay

The position of this little gem is extraordinary. In fact, I don't really want other people to find it. Little door opposite the Palais des Papes, then a little courtyard garden to die for. The room and facilities are sweet, but the host goes well beyond expectations. Alain is thoughtful, kind, and interesting and served a gorgeous breakfast with cheese homemade jams and breads. Can't rate higher

We loved the privacy and the size of the room/space directly across from the Palais de Popes. Alain, the owner, could not have treated us any nicer. He served a beautiful breakfast to us every morning in the lush garden. He was very helpful with suggestions and directions as to how best spend our day. The property was a perfect central spot to take daily trips (by car) to Gordes, Nimes, Pont du Gard, Roussillon, Les Beaux, Abbey de Senanque and Uzes. And the cherry on top was the resident cat, Le Chat!

I wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone visiting Avignon. The apartment is beautiful, and the location is perfect—right in the heart of the lively city. Yet, the moment you step inside, you find yourself in a peaceful little haven, with a charming garden where you can relax. Alain, the host, is absolutely wonderful—friendly, accommodating, attentive, and always ready to go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. He prepared delicious breakfasts for us each morning, which we enjoyed outside in his lovely garden. We had such a fantastic stay!

Absolutely the best possible place to stay in Avignon.

Imagine having your own private villa in the best location in the beautiful city of Avignon. A centuries-old stone house, fully updated, built around a lush courtyard garden. Beautifully decorated art-filled rooms, a gracious host and a fabulous breakfast. Such a wonderful contrast to the usual b&b or hotel rooms.... Truly memorable in every way.

Face au Palais B&B

The B&B is directly opposite Palais des Papes, and next door to a good restaurant. Behind a black street door and along a corridor to a secluded beautiful courtyard garden. B&B only has 2 rooms, very comfortable, and the upstairs one is very spacious and stylishly decorated and furnished. Very good continental breakfast. Would definitely recommend, particularly if looking for somewhere different than the usual modern sterile hotels.

Spacious, Chaming and Perfectly Located

This adorable bed and breakfast is perfectly located near the Palais du Papes and is steps away from a parking deck, making it easy for us to zip in and out of Avignon for day trips around Provence. Alain is a charming host. His recommendations on what to see and do in Provence reshaped our itinerary in the best ways. Breakfast every morning in the walled garden was delicious with fresh breads, eggs, coffee, tea, ham, cheese, fresh fruit, jams and more. Our room was spacious, quiet and comfortable. Avignon is an ideal base for discovering Provence - bigger, more lively and exciting than Arles - and we would certainly stay at Face at Palais again.

So welcoming, comfortable and beautiful. Truly a special experience.

This was such a wonderful place to stay. The best breakfasts! In such a perfect spot, easy to walk to everything I wanted to see, and also to the Central Train Station. I stayed for 4 nights and it was a perfect choice for me, traveling alone. The private Garden is beautiful and peaceful, the furnishings and decoration are so artistic, comfortable, and tasteful. And best of all, Alain, the host, is delightful and kind and so helpful.

I wish I could have stayed a few more days.

A little gem in the heart of Avignon

Our host Alain was charming and most considerate. We enjoyed a superb breakfast before stepping out to explore Avignon; we didn’t have far to go as the Palais des Papes is directly opposite! Our well appointed room was very spacious and incredibly quiet. We would definitely recommend Face au Palais to anyone looking for a calm and peaceful sanctuary in the centre of Avignon.

Having to leave, unfortunately we could only stay for two nights.

An oasis in the heart of Avignon.

Location was fabulous....in the heart of the city center next to the palace, plus an oasis garden inside to escape and relax . Alain, our host, was great...friendly, helpful, and served a plentiful, delicious breakfast. Made excellent restaurant recommendations. Thanks, Alain!! Though the room was on the small side, it served us well....comfortable bed, great shower pressure, and clean. Everything oozed old world charm. Highly recommend.

Not really anything we didn't like...very happy with our stayed However. ...maybe a word to those who like or need more room to move around...the room is tight, especially to get to the bathroom...narrow walk area between bed and wall to door..
