Beautiful character inn. Maintained to a very high standard. Friendly staff, delicious food, comfortable bed, great value for money. I will stay again.
Not the property’s fault, but the only available parking is in a public car park a short walk away which requires payment

Breakfast was excellent - we chose the hot option although the buffet choice looked pretty good. I had a full English which was brilliant, and my partner chose Eggs Benedict which was also excellent. As a coeliac, he has to be careful, but we found all staff very knowledgeable on the subject, and happy to help. We also dined in the restaurant in the evening, and the same was true. Excellent food and service. Perfectly situated right in the middle of Romsey, with a carpark just behind the hotel.
Couldn't fault it!

The way we were greeted, the comfortable room, the Christmas card & gift, so festive! The breakfasts were excellent. The location was perfect & close enough for us to have breakfast & then attend the Christmas service in the glorious Abbey. All on all a delightful stay.

The breakfasts were substantial with plenty of choice. The Sunday roast was exceptionally tasty, especially the potatoes which were crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside. The location was perfect, close to shops and many attractive historical buildings especially the Abbey. It was a joy to hear the bells pealing on Sunday evening.

The staff were excellent - they always smiled, had great eye contact and were genuinely interested in helping us have a great stay. Nothing was too much trouble. The property was quirky and interesting - you could tell it was a historic building but the facilities were all up to date within, and clean, well maintained and gorgeously appropriate.
In the room we had a kettle and tea bags and a coffee maker with pods, which is great, but we could have done with some instant coffee sachets (coffee makers confuse me although I would have worked it out or asked if we had been staying longer). Otherwise the facilities were excellent.

Friendly staff, lovely premises with lots of seating areas, excellent location and good breakfast.
The restaurant was a little bit expensive and I would have liked some freshly squeezed orange juice for breakfast.

Staff were very helpful and friendly. Request for early check in was accomodated and lunch of fish and chips was delicious. I did not require breakfast but coffee machine in room was appreciated.
View from room was not pretty - various outbuildings etc. But to be expected in centre of town?

The bed was very comfortable and the room was the perfect temperature - and very quiet given it over looked the main square. There was a pod coffee machine in the room instead of the usual instant coffee sachets and a bath duck in the shower, which was a sweet touch. The 'history of the building' book in the room was really interesting and very helpful.
There was a nice closet for hanging clothes but few surfaces for laying out clothes or toiletries. The toilet didn't always stop running so often needed an extra flush.

Excellent restaurant. Central location. Character. Mostly amazing staff - over the weekend it was incredibly busy for them but they were so friendly, helpful and professional. Deputy Manager on Sunday was clearly making sure it went smoothly for guests.
Noisy - bar was impossible in the evening because of local groups making a din. Our room on the first floor must have had elephants staying in the room above who came to bed late and got up at 7am.
Corridors full of sheets, vacuum cleaners and general housekeeping paraphernalia. Yes, room cleaning has to happen. But in a narrow corridor a pile of sheets and a laundry bag is a trip hazard. And a vacuum cleaner dumped on a landing blocking a fire extinguisher just says the cleaners are prioritising their needs, not the needs of the hotel.
Staff were amazing over the weekend. But on Monday morning the attitude of the breakfast staff was appalling. Clearly the B team had been brought in and seemed more interested in having a chat, disappearing regularly so that at one point other people were left waiting ages to get a table (breakfast room about 20% occupied) and then were more than charmless when serving. Pretty much spoilt our otherwise good stay.

Location is excellent. I like being in the town square with easy access to all directions. Buffet breakfast is delicious. I like the variety of the two historic lounges and the more modern lounge and dining room along with good outside tables.
The space on the bedroom floor was too narrow for my open antler suitcase. I had to squeeze past sideways to walk from the door to the bed etc.

character of the property; located n the town centre - proximity to the Southampton Spire Hospital. Friendly Staff, size of the room - very spacious.
Size of the bed - this spacious room would easily take a Super Queen bed and the bed in the room was large double/King. Everything else was as expected and advertised. Highly recommended if you need to be in a quite and nice area near Southampton city / UHS
