Relaxing retreat

Quiet, great value for money, tasteful and elegant restaurant. There is an option for a stroll by the hotel but I used the gym and the swimming pool.

The light bulb above the sink was flickering, the reading light wasn’t working on one side but I reported these and should be easily fixed.

Don't accept "Superior "room 24 very noisy

Very nice building and surroundings.

Very noisy room with the kitchen exhaust fan running all night, making sleep almost i.possible. We complained to the night staff but they were not interested and said the fan had been switched off hours ago!!! It had not!! Spoilt our visit.

I felt the facilities were great for what I paid. You had everything you needed for a comfortable stay. Breakfast was particularly good as I am gluten-free and there were plenty of options.

This was my fourth visit

No help with luggage, broken shower holder, bedroom phone not working. When tried to get medical help, was advised to ring 111 myself. Christmas Day. Intense pain at the time (kidney stones). 111 called ambulance and I was taken to hospital. When I returned to hotel after 5 x pain relief and in my pj’s the first question asked.. do you want help to clear your room. When I explained that I couldn’t drive because of morphine and other opiates, they advised me that they had cancelled the room for the rest of the day and would charge me the same I had paid: £76 per night including breakfast. When I told them I wouldn’t need breakfast, just opportunity to sleep off the drugs, they reduced it by £1. I left the next day having slept most of the day and Boxing night.

A lovely environment, with clean rooms and a great breakfast, but spa experience let the place down.

Clean room; comfortable bed; beautifully laid out and tasty breakfast; lovely surroundings (although a little overgrown in November) with an amazing deer ring.

We went to the spa on the Sunday afternoon and discovered the pool was full of very boisterous and unruly kids - some jumping in off the sides which made swimming a gentle length practically impossible. On retreating to the jacuzzi, two children climbed the wall of the pool and crawled into the jacuzzi with us (despite clear rules about age limits on the sign nearby). We decided to return the next morning. When we did so, we were told in a cold, matter-of-fact way that there were no towels. Apparently they had not been delivered that morning. We were instructed to return to our room and get our room towels - a 5-10 minute walk through the cold. There was no apology. On expressing our surprise, we were simply informed that the reception had been told (as if to suggest it was our fault for not checking with reception). Overall it was very poor customer service. On leaving the hotel at the end of our stay that morning, the person on reception was apologetic about the towels and told us they had now arrived.

Professional and courteous staff, comfortable rooms with space to work and USB sockets, decent food in the bar, good location, excellent gym and the breakfast was (mostly) good.

Typical English hospitality industry issues - dynamic pricing so the room rate varies from good value to exorbitant, tiny croissants at breakfast and the rotating toasting grill that is not enough (first pass) and burnt (second pass).

Friendly and individual hotel offering excellent value for money

Enjoyed an upgraded superior room - spacious and warm. Very friendly staff. Appreciated the individually cooked hot breakfast choices - perfect poached eggs in my case. Took advantage of the complementary access to the swimming pool and sauna in the adjacent sports club.

Location of the hotel is great, staff are helpful but hotel needs some money spending.

The hotel is run down and the room cleaning was questionable. There was hair around the bath taps, land the duvet cover had marks on. The pillows are terrible and the duvet was not warm enough. Parking is tricky.

The greeting at reception was very efficient and friendly. The young lady behind the bar was friendly also. The evening waitress, Orlena was superb and handled issues with the dinner efficiently and exceeded our expectation.

The chef seasoned the soup far too much almost making it unpalatable and the medley of vegetables were heavily sprinkled in salt which was totally unnecessary and they had to be changed. All this was done in a quiet professional manner by Orlena. This made the meal enjoyable.

While our stay in the hotel was perfectly pleasent, the passion just seems to have gone.

The shared area of the Hotel was lovely, the bar not too expensive, and always had a place to sit

The hotel is defiantly a 3* hotel. The grounds could be made more of a feature of, the rooms a little tired, the carpets a little warn, just needs some love and passion put back into the hotel. There were cowebs in the room, careless overpainting, lack of eye to detail, Such a shame as the location of the hotel, and the foundations are all there. That they did not cook omelettes on Sat and Sunday because "it was too busy" just did not wash, that the food would run out and not be replenished (4 bananas for a full hotel was obviously going to be a problem), that they had totally run out of oat milk on Sunday is unacceptable. The reception could not recommend where to go in the new forest, or some nice walks was a shame. It felt as if the love had been lost for the hotel, and that's a real shame.
