Great location but...

The location was ideal

The room was cold. The heating only worked some of the time. The shower barely worked with low water pressure. The shower cubicle had mold between the tiles. The desk staff were on the hotel phone when we went to reception so we didn't get an opportunity to raise our concerns. We've stayed there before and had excellent rooms though.

2 Night stay in the Torquay Caledonian hotel

My wife and I booked into the Caledonian Hotel Friday 13/02/2026. We travelled by train to Torquay station, arriving at the hotel early before 15.00 check in. Very helpful receptionist advised us to leave our weekend bags behind a counter in the reception area. We arrived back at the hotel at 14.00 and had a drink in the bar, being allowed to check in to room 414 at 14.50. Check in was quick and easy, only one lift is within the premises but never had to wait to long. The hotel was clean and tidy. We arrived at our room and found it to be clean comfortable and warm with a sea view. We booked 2 nights with breakfast and the breakfast was very good value and was help yourself style. We have stayed here before and definitely would stay again. The hotel is ideally positioned in the harbour area and has free entertainment at night . The hotel is on the Caledonian coach holiday list. The room is fully supplied with all basic requirements including wash and shower contents.

The location is the best in Torquay, walk out the door onto the marina what more could you want.

It was incredibly hot in there, granted it is winter so the heating was on but our room was unbearably hot, had to open the windows to let some air in but by doing this was woken up early doors by noise outside. Could have done with more continental breakfast options such as pastries and fruit

Lovely Building but Room for Improvement

Location good. Bar staff and house keeping manager were pleasan. Catering staff seemed professional and hygienic food set up. Size of room, comfy bed, lighting. The building, the entertainment area and the lounge and dining areas.

The worse problem was at 7am the shower didn't work and I rang reception and had no answer so my partner had to get dressed to go to reception before showering and was told maintenance wouldn't be in until 7.30am so he asked for us to shower in another room but was told "no I can't give you another room just for you to have a shower in"! This really was unacceptable and then another staff member told us at 8am we could use another room by which time my partner wasn't undressing again and I had struggled to wash my hair in the bath which was dirty with tide marks from previous bathers. All of our timings and hygiene, exercise and eating routine and plans were affected because of the shower not working. The room was dusty on edges and corners, especially evident in bathroom and radiators, the dust in the air was difficult to sleep with. The door lock wasn't fully lockable from inside which made me feel insecure overnight. There was someone's name tag in the room and the coffee provisions seemed to need filling. The breakfast buffet wasn't as good as last time and there was no fruit at all, the coffee machine had no milk in it when I tried to use it so had to have tea. The bacon was overcooked so hard and overall a low quality of cooked breakfast so wasn't worth the extra B&B option. Other than all of that I like the actual hotel and location.

Disappointing , expected better

Great location in the town.

Not a great stay. We had to walk through people smoking right outside the front door - multiple times. Room/ hotel dated and decorating not good at all. Shower disappointing not powerful enough. Toilet squeezed into a tight corner, quite uncomfortable , claustrophobic. Burnt my hip on the towel rail , in the bathroom, no room to move. Yellow stains in the duvet No iron in the room The parking barrier didn't lift as we were leaving, so we had to pay and then get a refund from the hotel - had to go back to the hotel. Paid the £10 fee instead of the hotel £8 Sausages were awful - cheap Not a massive breakfast selection. No fried eggs, no gluten free bread. Very little gluten free options. No fresh fruit or pastries

The location was brilliant right on the seafront and close to the town

It was a little outdated could have a lick of paint in the hotel to freshen it up. Our shower room was very compact and shower cubicle could do with replacing very grubby.

Room number 216. Basic double room booked on B & B basis. This room has the wow factor. Windows over front of Hotel. Spacious bedroom comfortable bed side tables and wall lights. Two seater sofa, arm chair and coffee table. Wall unit with good size TV and tea/ coffee making area. Full length mirror and standard light. Decor modern and relaxing. From the bedroom you have a dressing room with a wardrobe, dressing table and mirror. Bathroom excellent and very up to date. Bath, shower cubicle , toilet with soft closer lid, and a sink. Shelve for storage and wall radiators.

Nothing the room was far better than expected. Comfy bed, spacious , and a view from the three windows over the gardens, promenade and water.

Very noisy. Windows should be double glazed as there was a lot of noise all night. Not hotels fault but there were young kids running up and down the corridor and knocking on doors at 1am in the morning

The whole place is tired, but the staff do their best with what they've got, one lift that holds 4, people is totally inadequate. Our bedroom had a great view, not noise wise, will book a room at the back next time.

The room was clean and tidy and the location was excellent

I had to was my hair in the sink as the shower was a trickle and boiling hot The food quality is very poor. Cheap sausages and beans. Tepid. I spoke to the manager who told me I was unfair to put the review on trip advisor after his assistant manager has not even apologised. There is no parking it's a 3 minute walk to the multi storey car park

Cheap budget hotel for a one night stay

Staff were friendly

Very dated and tired Older persons coach trip hotel. Curtains too short for the window, which let daylight in very early morning. Very small fan in the room which didn’t do anything. Advertised with parking, which I always opt for, to find it was a public multi storey car park. We had to park on the 7th floor as very busy, lifts out of service. Good job we are fit and able bodied ! View from room was wasteland at the back of the hotel.
