Nice place, very flexible and affordable

I've stayed here multiple times throughout the past years and never had any issues. They provide all amenities, multiple kitchens, it is clean and comfortable and always very flexible (which I much appreciate)! The location is also great, just a couple minutes away from the train (which leads straight to the ski resorts), and most importantly, the price is always among the lowest.

I can hear clearly what people next door are talking. I can hear people snoring. And when they move around, I can also hear clearly. When people go to toilet at night, I can hear people pee. Really terrible experience. And the carpnet looks dirty. The room is smelly.

Wouldn't recommend for someone searching comfort

Location is great - you go out of the place and you see a waterfall. The bathroom was quite clean. There's a kitchen where you can cook something, or at least use a microwave or a kettle.

I've stayed here in 2018 and I had the most pleasant memories from this place, however coming here in 2025 was unfortunately a disappointment. The building is quite old - you can hear the neighbors quite well. The location of the sockets is weird. There's no reception and the lady just handed us over the keys and that was it. Also, you couldn't understand when is the cafe working to even have a breakfast there.

Location other than that nothing else!!

Climbing high stairs to reach the main entrance of the property is not at all good and safe for tourists especially when you have luggages. Not all rooms have a proper view of the outside scenery. I was given a very small room facing the neighbor. Unless you have given the front side of the property then you have a view. Their ads says great view, yes only if your outside of the property you have decent view but not as what they are saying. Wifi is slow too.

Just what I needed, very cozy but upset about wifi not working.

I really liked the comfort, value and location of the room. The staff was very nice and accommodating. I really enjoyed the home feel of the base cafe.

The wifi did not work which was difficult as a traveller. No staff on site after cafe hours to talk about this with, this was definitely the main issue with the stay.

Good rooms but shared kitchen and bathroom might be disappointing

Room was good enough for two people to stay comfortably. It felt like a typical Swiss village room ! :) Location was great, takes about 5 min walk from Lauterbrunnen Bhf.

Since it was a shared Bathroom, it wasn't very clean. Toilet paper was very limited Shared kitchen was not clean as well. Unwashed utensils were left as such in the sink. :(

It's on the main street. That was the ONLY good thing.

everything. Staff was rude and not helpful. The room was a dump. the ceilings were wet and leaking. All of the outlets in the room, except for one, was busted. There were lamps on the nightstands that didn't even have outlets to plug into. The floors are creaky and dirty. One curtain panel to cover the entire window. It should be a Hostel.

Awful and borderline inhumane

The bathrooms were disgusting for 3 days there was not a roll of toilet paper in any of the 3 shared bathrooms. - No toliet paper for 3 days - Bathrooms, 1 per floor, were shared between 19 rooms. about 5 per floor. Wait was normal. - Soap out. - The bottom bathroom door did not lock. - The shower head on 3rd floor was broken. - The bathroom walls and ceilings had mold on them. - Noise - The walls were paper-thin, and I could even hear a phone's vibration mode coming through the wall. - No staff available to answer calls or talk to in person on multiple attempts. - No response on WhatsApp phone #'s for both that were provided on the sign to the cafe (where check-in was) - Contact during normal business hours seemed impossible. - Messaging on booking.com also seems to be disabled. You cannot contact them there. - Email - there is no where else to contact them. - The check-in was also a cafe. If you wanted to talk after check-in about a concern - the response was... the person who does the hotel stuff was not there. During normal hours. That is not a good way of doing business. I am currently trying to find a way to get reimbursed for the 3 night, which I chose to check out one night early because I was tired and felt as though the description of the place did not live up to expectations, and I didn't have high expectations to start. Toliet paper in shared bathrooms is a basic need and having spare rolls avaialble is a must. Also, accessibility and responses from staff, of which I am still waiting on.

Don’t stay there!

There was one room per floor that included the bathtub, the toilet, and the sink. There was no toilet paper!!! And there was nobody we could contact about it. Another guest said that there haven’t been any toilet paper for several days. She also could not contact the hotel through any of the numbers provided. The location is right on the main street and it is extremely noisy. We had to open the windows because it was so hot and there was no air conditioning. I do not recommend this hotel! They don’t seem to have any interest in Customer Service.

Worst Experience

Location is excellent, few 100 meters away from Lauterbrunnen Train station.

Untidy Kitchen and Washrooms. For 3 rooms we got 1 washroom which was also frequently occupied by someone from the other floors. Floor was always drenched with water in the washroom. Kitchen utensils, Dish washer and Oven were horrible.. Guys at the Base Cafe were unprofessional and unfriendly were making some unhealthy jokes. At the time of check-in we asked a staff at reception how many washrooms we have access to 3 rooms. The receptonist answered there is 1 in our floor and there is waterfalls nearby in case if it is not sufficient. Such an unprofessional behavior and bad attitude.

Disappointed

No reception, check in time is inconvenient, the bathroom is awful, the bath is idk how many years old. No normal facilities provided, the building is scary, people were smoking cannabis. No security and comfort at all.

A decent place to sleep if you're going to be spending most of your time outside anyway

The location of Base Cafe is hard to beat. That's the best thing it has going for it. Check in was very easy which might be a plus for some, but it felt almost too easy... It seems like the staff is very hands-off. We walked into the cafe, they told us which room number we had, and that was it. No further information given, but everything was pretty self-explanatory thankfully.

The floors are very squeaky and walls are quite thin, so your experience will very much depend on the other guests staying at the same time as you. Thankfully the other guests were not too noisy late into the night, but I could see that being a problem for other stays. As other reviews mention, the shower doesn't drain properly, but other than that we didn't find a huge problem with cleanliness. If anything the kitchen was dirtier than the bathroom. Keep your expectations reasonably low for your stay.

Avoid this place

We read through the bad reviews before booking and our expectations were very low, but it was even worse. We just booked it because there were no other affordable options at the time. Location is excellent though. The only other good thing was that some of us found the bed comfortable, bedroom had reasonable size, and the sheets were clean.

Absolutely disgusting smell in all areas of the building, we think it was from the cafe on the lower floor. The toilet had mold, one of the bathubs did not look good, not enough toilet roll (I complained and we had an extra roll, but the next day it happened again). Only one shared toilet per floor, with difficult access early in the morning as many people need it. You can hear absolutely every noise through the walls. Dirty carpet in one of the bedrooms, needed hoovering. Kitchen was not practical, horrible smell, and dishes, pots etc were not clean either. There was a very strange situation when a lady came to us very annoyed because we were using the eating area on the lower floor (the only table on the first floor was full), but we had no information that we were not allowed to access that floor (no signs or information when checking in), and it turned out to be a very unpleasant interaction. She never introduced herself as staff but we saw her handing keys to people, so we assumed she worked there in some capacity. We tried to spend as much time as possible outside and just use the accomodation for quick showers and sleep.It's unbelievable how older reviews point out the same issues and nothing has been done to improve.

Not great!

The price was $200 US per night which is less than other places. Bedding was clean and towels were clean.

Room is very small for 3 people and just so loud. The door locks to the rooms and bathroom are so loud ALL night long. The kitchen has no paper towels and the bathroom could use paper towels too! If we had to do it again we would have stayed in Interlaken and driven in for the day and then left. The valley is beautiful but there is a lack of hotel rooms and they are just too expensive for what you get.

Perfect location. Easy checkin. All basics for a short stay. Bath is shared, so if that doesn't bother place, it is a good option with kitchen and nice room size and limited parking options on the back.

Fully humanless check-in and checkout experience makes it fast and friendly when you have a flexible agenda

Very few instructions to get in. The entrance is on the back but with a letterbox with names of people that make it seem like it's not the hotel. So quite confusing. Moreover, we called many times as requested to communicate times of arrival and departure but never got an answer both with normal and whatsapp calls.

Would’t stay again.

Not much.

The guest on one side of me was singing, the other side kept slamming their door. The walls are paper thin and so you can hear their conversations even. I had to bang on the walls to get them to be even a little quieter (this after 11pm). Also, the furniture is soooo outdated and old, the bed isn’t comfortable, the bathroom is down the hall, and it is all bare bones like you are sleeping in someones abandoned attic rooms. Would not stay again, even for the price.

Cute room, dissapointing stay.

Location for day trips around the valley was great.

Shared bathroom tan out of toilet paper and wasn’t replaced, bathroom wasn’t the most clean. We were on the third floor and both nights we stayed we didn’t sleep well, we were woken up throughout the night from the people staying above us walking around - it was very loud. The room was cute with lots of windows but this also made the traffic / construction outside at night very loud. The curtains also did little to keep the light out so we were awake as soon as the sun was up. Overall the stay was quite expensive for what you got.
