Comfortable Stay in the Heart of Town

A decent hotel with amazing mountain views and a great breakfast selection. The staff were friendly, helpful, and always available when needed. The location is excellent—right in the heart of town, just a few steps from the local station and the lifts, making it very convenient for getting around. Overall, a comfortable and well-situated place to stay.

Authentic Swiss room in an amazing setting with a view of Staubbach Falls!

Convenient to train station, beds were comfortable and the breakfast had plenty of options such as fresh fruit, local cheeses, deli meats, yogurts, homemade breads, cereals, bacon and eggs…delicious!! Restaurant at night offered the most delicious Schnitzel…we went back for more the next day!

Clean, convenient, and comfortable - the 3 Cs.

Hotel Steinbeck was perfect for our four-day stay in Lauterbrunnen. Contrary to some negative reviews we found the room clean and the bathroom more than adequate - good water pressure and hot water in the shower. We typically do not require our room to be serviced during our stay - when we saw housekeepers in the hall, they gladly switched our towels for fresh ones. The bed was comfortable, but the large floofy pillows, not so much. Our room had a sweet little balcony overlooking the train station - a great vantage point for people watching and views across the valley. Speaking of convenience - the train station, cable car, bank and bus stop are literally right outside the door. Breakfasts were good with a selection for most every taste. We had most dinners at the hotel - the staff were very helpful and the menu was good - with wild game dishes as a specialty.

Great base location to explore but I would stay in Murren

Location- Situated directly opposite the train station and near the Lauterbrunnen–Mürren cable car. Shared bathroom and shower on the same floor. Bathroom sink in the room. Solid Breakfast. Value

No elevator. Booked a twin room but got bunk beds instead- wife not happy.

Great spot, room for improvement

Great location & nice view from the balcony. We had dinner twice at the restaurant and enjoyed our meals, reasonably priced compared to others in the street (& given its Switzerland!). Breakfast was plentiful and nice provided you got there early. They didn’t seem to replenish the fresh fruit or the eggs and bacon which were cold two out of the three mornings we were there.

We found the mattress far too firm and uncomfortable. We used one of the single duvets as a mattress topper which made it bearable. The stairs to the rooms were brutal so pack light!

The location right by the train station and the breakfast was well done.

The room I booked wasn’t attached to the actual hotel we checked in at. We had to walk down the street to a separate building then walk up two flights of stairs, go through another side door then to the hallway for our room. When I booked, I don’t remember the room being annexed away from the facilities. The outlets beside the bed only took USB cords so the only regular outlets were right beside the door or in the bathroom.

A friendly hotel / restaurant. Timea made me feel very welcome, and made me a lovely packed breakfast for the morning (had to catch an early train). Room clean and quiet, bed comfortable and an excellent night's sleep, thank you. Hope to come again!

Not having longer to stay!

Disappointing experience – poor service and unhelpful staff

The location of the hotel is quite nice

Unfortunately, my experience at the hotel was quite disappointing. I was given a room with the worst view, despite paying a high price. When I politely asked to change the room especially since there were clearly empty rooms available the staff refused without any reasonable explanation. On top of that, the staff were not kind or supportive throughout my stay. I needed an iron to press my clothes, but they did not help me. The lack of hospitality and unwillingness to help made my stay uncomfortable and frustrating.

Okay if you just need to spend night to sleep and travel all day. Not a good value for money.

Location was perfect, just outside the train station and coops. Morning buffet breakfast was great. Room cleaning daily morning.

We booked a double bed, but the room had 2 single beds placed together, even the duvet was not double, there were 2 single duvets. Reception was not in the same building, no telephone service to reception, no basic facilities like kettle. Not enough/proper toiletries. Check out is too early.

A very enjoyable stay at a hotel perfectly located for transportation and with great food, too!

Breakfast was great. We had supper 3 times...the soup was incredible and after trying the Steinbock pizza on the recommendation of a local family...we concur- excellent pizza! Our rooms looked newly refurbished and we enjoyed looking at the mountains from our balcony. The hotel is located in the perfect location for transportation...train, bus and gondola! And the little bakery across the street was awesome! Coop is right there.

Perfect location, traditional hospitality- I would go again in a flash!

Unbeatable location right next to the train station. I had only been able to get a room in the annexe rather than the main hotel- on checking in, was initially given a room with no view at all, but on requesting one, was kindly given a different room, thanks to their wonderful staff Jessica, which was in the annexe facing the main street and train lines- with a little balcony, perfect for people watching. In addition, one of the side windows also had a partial but beautiful view of Staubbach falls, albeit interrupted by construction work in a neighbouring building. I found all the staff very helpful- there was no kettle in the room originally to make tea or coffee, but when I asked for it, was promptly given one. Breakfast was served in the main hotel just across the street- it was very good with the usual cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruit, juices, a variety of breads, as well as hot food in the form of scrambled eggs and bacon. We ate in the hotel pizzeria one night- excellent thin-crust pizza!

Nothing to complain about. The only thing I would mention is- take care when crossing from the annexe to the hotel- its hardly any distance, but there is no crossing place, cars come up the road at full speed- no fault of the hotel, though.

Super nice staff! We booked one room with a private bath and one with a shared bathroom, but they upgraded us to two rooms with private bathrooms for free! Okish breakfast, but the location is incredible – a 1km walk to Staubbach Falls, and steps from the cable car and train station! Clean rooms with super comfy king-size beds!

Nice hotel in an amazing place.

The breakfast was really good. Better than I thought it would be. The location is amazing. Not so much where it’s located in the town but that it’s located in the Lauterbrunnen Valley just below the Jungfrau. Doesn’t get much better than that.

My room had a sink but no shower or toilet. I knew that when I booked. But still a little inconvenient. Not sure if all the rooms are like that or just some.

Great stay with a few hiccups

Very nice location with good views, nice and clean room and good food at a fair price too. Breakfast also good

We were unable to check in at 3 PM as the room wasn’t ready, though we appreciated being allowed to drop off our bags so we could head out for a hike. The next morning, breakfast was scheduled to begin at 7 AM, but no staff appeared until 7:30. While I assume this isn’t typical, it was still frustrating, as we had gotten up early for a long hike and the delay set us back.

The hotel is very well situated to explore Lauterbrunnen and the surrounding area, the room was comfortable and the shared bathroom and shower were kept clean. The shower had great water pressure!
