Lovely location and staff, and i would stay here again

The location was amazing, close to the most beautiful parts of the island. The staff at this property were lovely, and the dogs were a bonus (4 chihuahua). The pool was really nice and refreshing with a lovely view of the beach. The restaurant of the resort was lovely and we got 10% off as we were staying there.

Bedbucks!

Directly at the beach. The diving center and all instructors are amazing.

Our room had bedbucks and we know other guests who had bedbucks as well. They handled it poorly, we still had to pay the room price for their bedbucks infested rooms :( I am all over my body full with itching bites and our baby got bitten as well - horror holidays! Do dives at the dive center, but spare yourself from staying at this hotel!

One of the best places we have stayed. Definitely reccommend.

I had an ear infection after scuba diving so wanted to book somewhere a bit nicer to relax. The Carabao hotel served its purpose above and beyond. One of the scuba instructors gave me some good advice with my ear and it has a bar/restaurant on the otherside of the pool (discounted) which was great. Room was amazing. Nice and clean. Right on the beach front which had lots of great spots nearby. We recommend coming here and trying the restaurant behind the hotel - really cheap and some of the best food on the island. No one else was there but we had to go a couple times it was so good. Also provided free taxi to and from the ferry which was ideal!

Unhelpful staff, bare room without even a single glass, plumbing in bathroom broken, incredibly narrow stairs, no fire escape, verandah just a narrow access corridor, totally over-priced.

The location is great walking distance to shark bay, Taa Ton beach and freedom beach.

The hotel doesn’t provide free drinking water, unlike most of the hotels and Airbnbs I stayed at in Thailand. There’s also no tea, coffee, or kettle in the room.

We recommend Carabao, and will for sure stay there next time we visit Koh Tao.

Good location, close to the beach, easy to get around in the area, nice pool, great restaurant, and really friendly staff in both the hotel, diveshop and restaurant! Nice big rooms with balconies and simple bathrooms. We were 9 travellers (4 adults and 5 teens age 14-18 years) and had four neighbouring rooms on first floor towards the beach (2 with poolview and 2 on the opposite side). Stayed 9 days and went diving with Carabao.

Restaurant closes at 9 p.m. But the good thing about that is, that it’s quit at the property and very easy to find another restaurant that is open until later. So it wasn’t a problem for us.

Great location, great view, rooms not cleaned.

We really liked the diving at this hotel, our diving instructor was extremely kind and helpful, also all of the restaurant staff were very kind. the balcony with a great view was also a plus for us.

Our room didn’t get cleaned once throughout our week stay, and the room itself, including the bathroom didn’t smell nice at all, the water also smelt dirty. We didn’t have an aircon remote. Additionally, one receptionist was notably rude to us, we felt every-time we went to reception, she was judging us, not being too kind as a receptionist, in comparison to the other lovely members of staff, for example an issue with a payment method, yet didn’t apologise.

My favourite place so far

Carabao is a wonderful place to stay, we completed our open water diver course whilst there. The staff are so helpful and the place is lovely right on the beach a restaurant next door but also loads more within walking distance.

Considering I stayed in a 16 bedroom hostel it was so quiet and respectful, probably because everyone is there to dive but it was so clean, right next to the beach and my stay was free included in the diving package. Would definitely come again

It was an okay stay for the price

Staff and the owner were really nice and helpful and it’s in a good location right on the beach

The bathroom in the shared dorm needed some maintenance and some TLC, the door was broken at the bottom and scrapping every time it was opened and the showers didn’t work very well

Not worth the price paid.

It was close to the beach. The beds were relatively comfortable.

No water available to drink or provided. The room was dated, doors were at times unable to close. (Cupboard and bathroom) blankets and sheets were very dated. Pillows were old and lumpy. Water went off for a whole afternoon so couldn’t shower. They also don’t clean the rooms daily and one of our rooms wasn’t cleaned at all and no cleans towels between both rooms over 4 days. Even when asked.

Great spot/ could use some room cleaning during the stay

Perfect beachfront spot. Ocean view from the balcony.. super clean pool.

Even-though we don’t usually ask hotels to make up our room every day, it would be good to have the option to request it when needed. At least changing bins every second day. We were staying for a week, and I had to grab the broom and take the bins out myself.

Really enjoyed our stay

Staff were great. We stayed in a private room and the bed was very comfortable. Good location if you want to do freedom beach however, difficult to get to the busier side of the island.

Mattress was broken and had exposed springs. Didn’t bother us but could be dangerous.

Location right on chalok beach is superb! After 1 week on saree beach i fancied a change of scene..friendly staff, chilled vibes , guests from around the world to meet..quiet dorm with comfy bed..would stay again! Free bbq on new years eve

Fantastic hostel, beautiful beach and spaces, unfortunate last interaction with reception manager

free pick up from the pier despite booking only a few hrs prior to arriving restaurant staff very efficient tasty food gorgeous view from balcony beautiful beach walking distance of a couple of snorkling beaches nice hang out spots and 2 pool tables very quiet 3 halarious dogs we didn't dive whilst there so cant comment on that side of things.

on our last night we asked the reception manager for a taxi and he said 'no' - it was 9pm and he was playing cards, and i suspect he thought we wanted one right then. we actually wanted one for 6.20am the next morning to get to the pier but the convo didn't get far enough for us to explain that because he cut it off with an immediate no! granted we should of asked earlier on so partly our fault but it was a bit like...oh OK then, thanks, and it left us kind of stuck. we had to go ask around at the restaurants nearby and luckily found a guy who could take us. a shame because it was a fantastic stay and he had been so friendly and funny prior to that incident. anyway I would still 100% recommend you stay here, it's great. the manager just needs to listen, let people finish and be politer, even if the answer is 'sorry but no we cannot arrange that'.

Friendly and comfortable

Really friendly helpful staff. Found the circle bed uncomfortable and asked to move to a different room and they moved things around and made it happen with no issue! Beautiful views of the sunset and quiet beach.

Location was far out and no real convenience stores local however this was fine for us as we hired a bike

Rude staff

Old sad room but bed ok, very hard pillows though By the beach

Waited 2h30 for the check in... The person who did it was extremely rude, making strange and angry faces to me, raising eyes on me for NO reason, yelling after a member of staff, yelling after his dogs and putting his hand in front of me asking me to pay! He became softer when trying to sell me boat tickets... As owner of guests houses in France I was truly in choc and have rarely seen this during my entire hosting and travelling life. Do not expect to sleep well, even if you book a private it is close to dorms and diving school. Insonorisation is poor. Air conds extractors on the terrasses...hot and noisy.

Not to impressive

The pool was nice. Restaurant was really nice with tasty food and big portions for a really good price. The room was clean and the balcony was nice. Nice location on the beach with a beautifull view. Taxi to the pier was cheap.

The room was not that nice. It had an unpleasant smell. The mattress had springs poking out which was really annoying and dangerous. Outdated and useless furniture. They didnt empty our trash the whole time we stayed there.

Pleasant

Great location directly on the beach, possible to join diving for a good price. Pool is great and there is lounge chairs around. Restaurants in the area, and pier transfers can be organised. Light and plug in the bed. Towel provided. Soap and shampoo in the bathrooms. Lockers close to the beds.

Unfortunately the dorms are quite bad. I guess it's what you get for 200 Baht a night. The floor is dirty, the sinks clogged, hair clumps in the shower. No blanket, only a large towel to sleep under. AC often gets really cold at night and is shut off during the day. No privacy in the dorm.

Exceptional

Great place. Double ensuite room with fan for about £9 a night. Nice balcony looking at the beach. You can hear the waves from the balcony. Stayed a week and after 3 days asked them to clean the room and they did it that afternoon. Drying rack for clothes. Nice restaurant next door. Staff very helpful. Diving. Had a refresher dive and then 3 more dives with them. Everything was well explained about the diving route and what we might see. And free snacks and water on boat. The pool was a great addition too. With beach loungers around it. Lots of nice places to eat within 5 mins walk and lots of shakes and smoothies on offer everywhere. Would definitely go again. Also very cute friendly dogs around the communal areas. Excellent.

staff were friendly and helpful with transfers to the pier. room was spacious and comfortable. right next to the beach and local restaurants. beers were cheap in the restaurant on site. cute dogs running around. would definitely stay again !!

the ceiling fan spun around the whole room so it only reached you in bed for a few seconds at a time so it was a bit warm at night. bathroom was a bit dark and the shower head only pointed at the walls so you had to hold it to have a shower.

I will return!

Loved this hotel so much, extended my stay! The staff are really kind and helpful! The pool is clean and refreshing and also have the beach to dip in right at your doorstep! The location for me was ideal quite but still bars and restaurants close. You could walk to the main town in about 40 minutes. Or some of the close attractions for 15-20. Also really easy to hire a bike.

The beds are a bit I comfy but you get used to it!
